Thread has nothing to do with WiFi

It *compliments* your *Wi-Fi* network by creating a mesh network in which each new smart device you add connects to the nearest one, giving you more coverage and making the entire network more robust. If one device fails, another can step in to maintain the signal, allowing the network to heal itself.

@@fluxautomate yes thread creates it own mesh much like zigbee etc in fact the thread radio is identical to the zigbee radio. I have many many thread over matter devices as well as zigbee.
