Use of standard fuel sending units has not been a problem for aluminum fuel tanks in aircraft. For example: www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/eppages/rochesterSender.php A more sophisticated sender would be something like this: www.aircraftspruce.com/pages/ep/fuelsender/westfuelqty3.php

Hi Jim . I am picking up a Merlin GT this spring. The kit is 70% finished at this point. Your tank videos will come in very handy. The tanks on mine are 6.5 Gallons ea. How many gallons are your new tanks holding? Thanks Thurston

about 11 1/2 usable. There have been a variety of styles of tanks installed as the design moved from one company to another... The originals were about 8 1/2 in mine. But I have seen larger tanks that span a couple rib bays. When my kit was built the wing tanks were an option - standard was a tank over the baggage area. Leak checked again this afternoon - none. Yay!

What is the thickness? What thickness would you recommend for a 20 Gal saddle type tank? Thanx

I used .062 inch 6061 - that was the thickness of the original tank - I have no idea what you might need for a saddle tank. Sorry...

Has anyone built aluminum tanks using the aluminum brazing rods?
