I sit and cry to this song. It has a very deep meaning one that I think most people can relate to. You break-up and still love the person. You want to be together. You sit there in your head living thru old letters and not wanting to realize what you already know. You want that person to come and tell you how they feel to untie that knot. For them to say whether or not they care or to end your misery and say they don't care and forget it altogether. It's hard not knowing it kills you inside.

I think there can be a lot of different meanings taken from this. For me it relates to my anxiety and depression and struggling to get through my life. So yes....it can be about love lost but I think everyone can find their own meaning from it. I love this song so much, makes me cry every time though. The beauty of music and poetry is that everyone takes their own meaning from it.

TBS played this in Boston tonight. This song was around when a couple of terrible things happened in my life like my dad passing and me giving my dog away in the same year. A true lover of music has to be eclectic in all genres... not just self absorbing themselves to one specific style. I started with hip hop or as phasedout90 would call it (rap crap), then branched out once I started playing guitar. Got Jimmy Page still rumbling through my head, along with KRS-One, Rakim, J-Boog, Bambu, Weezer, Smashing Pumpkins, Taking Back Sunday, Irie Love, Peetah Morgan, Fiji, etc. I LOVE MUSIC more than I love people.

Think about it. "Just ask the question"- the burining question of wanting to break up. "Come untie the knot"- a "knot" symoblizes a relationship. "You try to avoid it"- Avoiding breakig up is what's stated here. And he feels lilke there's nothing he can do about it.
