Old cursive style abounds with flourishes and loops, which is not practical for the beginning writer or for today’s fast-paced life style. The New American Cursive alphabet was developed with the beginning writer in mind.
The New American Cursive(NAC) alphabet retains the classic style of yesteryear but has been simplified for three main reasons: legibility, ease of use, and speed. Unnecessary initial strokes and extra loops have been eliminated to meet the needs of today’s students for a beautiful, fast, legible script. NAC has a gentle right slant that is easy for both left and right-handers. A rigid, vertical style is more difficult to write and tires the hand.
Cursive style English alphabet handwriting is the best option for children. The smooth flow of the cursive strokes helps in speed writing as well. Learning cursive handwriting is important for spelling skills, enabling children to recognize words when they read them later. Typing doesn't have the same effect on the brain, as it doesn't require the same fine motor skills and simultaneous activity.
One of the most important aspect is the letter orientation i.e. how to start and end the letter. This forms the base in ensuring you get a smooth action when writing.
