After watching it the first time, I felt robbed. I didn’t expect “I love you”s or a love scene, but after three seasons, I thought we’d get a kiss that lasted longer than a nanosecond. I also couldn’t believe that Max would bring up his wedding ring in conversation with Helen after longing to see her for a month. But the more I think about it (and re-watch it), the more perfect I think it was. I’m sure many of us have been in situations in which we’ve longed for something or someone so much that when that moment arrives, we just don’t know how to deal with it. Maybe we played it too cool (Helen) or maybe we semi-intentionally sabotaged it (Max), or maybe we just sat there crying like an overwhelmed kid at their birthday party. That sort of buildup and letdown happens all the time in huge moments and so I think it was quite realistic that their big reunion at the hospital played out as it did. I LOVED the quiet walk. Words weren’t working for them so it was the perfect solution. Had they talked more at that moment, Max would’ve messed things up even more. I also don’t know if he would have taken off that ring. I think they both needed the quiet, but also the gentle reminder of what/who they could have if they were willing to fight for it. As for the kiss, if viewers are left wanting more and are engaged enough to wait several months to get it, then the writers have done their job. I remember the episode when they had their long hug on the roof and how brilliant I thought that was. Leading up to that, I think we all thought the next step was a kiss, but the writers found a half-way point that was so beautiful. They did it again with the finale. We got the kiss, yet somehow it still feels like we missed it. As frustrating as it is, it leaves so much to look forward to next season. Can’t wait.

@A T. I came across the Max and Helen love story this year 2023 on KZbin (while searching out the Ethan and April love story on Chicago Med), after the NA series had already ended. I don't know how you and all the other viewers who were there from the beginning could endure the wait. At least, I was fortunate to binge watch Seasons 1-4. I will never watch Season 5, the unrecognizable Max that emerged after Freema (Helen) left the series was unbearable and not believable. Waiting for all those pivotal moments in the series would have been too annoying, only to have the writers screw up their love story "royally" in the end. So glad I did not invest years of my valuable time in the NA series, and I don't think I ever will in any new series that might be on the horizon. The April and Ethan love story had a happy ending, but was bitter sweet because they both were leaving the show. 🕊❤️🕊

I love the ending because it is so realistic that Max is torn. I even think he mentioned the ring to her to try to sabotage his potential romantic relationship. Because he knows once he crosses that line there are risks to their friendship and their professional relationship. So I'm glad he had those few minutes walking and thinking. I'm a little disappointed the kiss was so short but I understand you have to keep the fans wanting more. I have watched that kiss about 20 times so far and that kiss was hot. Anyway anyone who think that kiss was peck needs to watch it again as I will again and again. Hopefully it will keep me till the primere next season where I for can't wait to see the angst that comes from their nre level of intimacy

Exactly!!!...yes we would have liked to see more, its natural...and if it was a series finale then absolutely but the little we saw is a wonderful prelude for what's to come. There was no way the producers were given it all away in a season finale...but still that scene as short as it was, from Max taking his ring off, running back to her was by no means fleeting. It was everything we hoped it would be!!!

This show gets better and better each season and each episode. The current affairs they cover so deftly and delving into all of the characters makes it a joy to watch and my favorite show. I do hope Sharpwin hangs for the long term and is not a short term or one and done plot device. They need each other and I would be so disappointed if the show did not stick with them for a few years (if they truly hook up and make the commitment to be together).

I for one was not disappointed at all. This is Max and Helen all about the built and the climax. They share intimacy without words. His mannerisms towards her are just so old fashion kind of love. The softness in his voice he displays for her when he in her space is breathtaking. So yeah when my boy banged on that door which the intent of not turing back. When he walked up them steps without permission with that fiery look of intense passion baby I was on the edge of my seat. The kind of unspoken and eye contact they give each other makes me believe in love again. Can't wait for the fall❤❤❤

I think its complicated. I dont even think Max holding on to his wedding ring is even about Georgia. I think its about him and Helens relationship. I think he knows entering into a romantic relationship with Helen is going to change the relationship he now has with her. I think thats where the hesistancy comes from how is my relationship with Helen going to change if we become romantic. I actually think thats why he told her about the ring, to push the boundaries. In the old relationship Helen would have been nonchalant about him losing his wedding ring and finding it. But when he said it in the new relationship I literally cringe and was screaming at my TV "Max NO what are you doing". She doesnt to want to hear that. She listened to your message, left poor Mina and her mum with bronchitis that she thoight was lung cancer rushed back in airplane center sear for 6 hrs so she can come back early for YOU. And youre going to tell her about your wedding ring? Come on. I think he realized quickly it was a mistake. The relationship is going to change and he needs to adapt to the new dynamic or Helen is going to triage all if their relationships

When I first heard about New Amsterdam I thought "oh geez not another medical soap opera". But then I looked at a couple of the first episode and said "Hey, this is different". The story line was interesting. Here is a doctor willing to fire a whole department and with good justifucation. Max was a solutions person doing innovative and bold things to "get it right". Hmmmm, a nice change I thought. And while, admittedly, I followed the Helen-Max journey, I am disappointed that the show is now becoming very much "another of those". Another Grey's Anatomy, yuck! So much so that even when some attempt to get back to its "deeper moorings" arose: Remember the episode with focus on black women and inequality with health care? How the woman wanted to have her baby by natural delivery and the staff was insisting on c-section because "as a black minority she was high risk bkah, blah, blah?" Max said: "Make her white". In other words, pretend that you we dealing with a white woman in this scenario. Forget about the numbers. The black woman was able to successfully have her baby by natural delivery. Now THAT'S the New Amsterdam I like. But even this episode was presented "low-keyed" with the focus on the "relationships" all over the hospital. Should there be some romance, relationship things, yes. But now it's everything goes AND people are encouraging people to "do whatever you want". So she's married? That's OK Floyd, "follow your heart". So these 2 are brother and sister, but in a relationship? That's ok, "follow your heart?" etc, etc. Do WHATEVER makes you happy is the mantra and focus. After Season 3. I'm good. Bye New, Grey's... oh sorry, Amsterdam. Hope the writers could come up with a more balanced approach, other than that, it's going to quickly descend into another medical soap opera that not even "Sharpwin" could save.
