I would say this set performs just as well as the pro-set. The only downside is that there are no rubber tips at the bottom for playing indoors.

Is it sturdier frame wise compared to the pro set? From what I've read and seen is that both frames seem to be quite similar in design and durability. What do you think?

I would agree with your sources, they are very comparable in design and durability! If you want the build quality of a pro set but don't want to drop the cash, the New Standard Set is the way to go!
