I feel like it could have fit into the intro of episode 7 "the boy savior," instead of the montage of ekko and the firelights. But then this would give away the reveal that Ekko is the firelight leader, and would take away Ekko's contrast as someone who is helping people in the present

Nah as much as I feel vindicated about this.. once u start directing or writing &u get a sense of the "flow" of scenes.. u get a feel for just how much info to dump on your audience &when to hold back.. although I'm certain it wouldn't have KILLED the episode That's one piece of information they had to way with how perfectly paced &zingy the scene we got was &if this was something that could be held back for another time Were there enough clues to keep us guessing Were there enough hints in the pained angst of "tHe bOy SaViOuR" for ppl to GET there's much more going on &references a series of unfortunate events? as with anything u just have to take the chance &if ppl DONT catch it (I did prettymuch straight away) then atleast u have it in the pocket to slap ppl who didn't in szn 2

There's a ton of stuff they could have cut for time. Marcus was a waste of screentime, Cait and Vi had a good amount of filler that could have been cut, and the later half of Silco's organization's attempted coup wasn't needed either. Have the meeting, cut the vents, Silco makes his point, done. Of all the characters to give screen time to Ekko deserved it.

I think everything works well without the scene. My guess is that the creators didnt want to put too much focus on something in the past that really doesn’t do anything besides provide context for a possible relationship between Ekko and Powder. Even if they had a relationship (romantic or not) it does not advance or change the plot much. It has always been the story and struggle between the sisters. The creators didn’t intend for Jinx’s story and rise to be tied to a romantic motivator either. It would have been distracting or maybe even seem diminishing of Powder’s growth into Jinx to some people. I still am a fan of integrating a dynamic between Ekko and Jinx though. So i like what the creators did here where their fight and build up of emotions instead *implies* a past between them and the current influence they have on each other. Although, definitely had they included the deleted scene it would have given more context. But even without it their fight held enough symbolism (different growths from trauma) and emotion to justify their inevitable clash

Would be cool to get confirmation on the timeline for that music video cause it cuts to times when its just powder and echo which could actually be post episode 3 when they were the only survivors on the gang.

I've always wondered why Jinx tries to cut Ekko so deep verbally before their fight with the "boy savior" line, and I'm sure if this scene were still in the episode that would have cemented the line in the heads of Arcane fans even harder.

I always imagine that ekko and jinx had many encounters and Interactions between ep3 and ep4 where they obviously started out where they were in ep3 I.e close friends but gradually drifted apart until they became enemies. I really hope they explore this in s2

I'm glad they didn't include it, because the implication of their relationship and how it broke down between the time-jump works well with their faceoff at the bridge, getting this bitter sweet impressionistic rememberance. Exploring aspects of the time-jump and what happened to the Lanes is something that deserves to be explored in it's own time, probably if/when Ekko gets more focus and has a more active role with Heimerdinger. Because Piltover and Zaun are going to be hot messes, dealing with respective power vacuums after Jinx blindly took out nearly ALL THE LEADERSHIP, on both sides... except Ekko, and the exiled Hiemerdinger. They're living it up in their treehouse, while the world is trying to rebuild, leaving them off in one of the better positions to take charge/control. I can't wait!

I do believe we were robbed, but these guys clearly know what they're doing. Considering the amount of Powder and Ekko content we got in the Enemy music video I think it's safe to assume there's a story that they want to tell there, along with other ones (like Ekko founding the firelights and the upbringing Powder had under Silco). I have no clue how the events of season 2 will unfold, nor what kind of events those will be in the first place, but I'm sure they'll manage to put this flashback in somewhere...at some point If not I do hope they'll release the script of it tho

I like that they decided to leave this scene out. Arcane's story has such an integrity that you could expect something like this just from her line "the boy savior" and the flashback fight they had. Showing this scene in the future will create a way cooler moment imo

They said “or fortunately” because the importance of the scene didn’t justify screen time it would’ve taken. Other scenes around Jinx, Vi, Silco, Jayce and Viktor took precedence cause their stories were more central in season one, but I’m sure they’ll explore him more in season two.

"Or fortunately" is just a standard showeunner / filmmaker / storyteller mindset. You add and subtract countless things in the process of telling a story, for myriad reasons. And you never, ever - despite armchair authors everywhere - know precisely what the formula is for the perfect story. So, even in retrospect, it is impossible to say if dropping a particular scene, or character, or story beat you loved would have helped or hindered the effectiveness of the work. Of course, a thousand people will swear "They should've kept THIS scene" or "They should have dropped THAT scene" but, in the grand scheme, nobody actually _knows_ what they're talking about. The only truth is: If you change any element, the story would be different. Everything else is just a guess.

I've always had the headcanon that Ekko tried to save powder, but she rejected it or Dilco got in the way. So l don't think it was a bad decision but man it still would have been cool to see another interaction between them. We only get 3 and 1 of them, we don't even know that Ekko was the firelights leader.

It seems to me that time constraints was the main reason for cutting the scene. In this era of streaming you are not trying to squeeze into a tv episode format to suit a network so there is no reason to leave it out. If it makes the episode longer - so what?

Pacing. When you’re writing a show, a book, or almost any form of storytelling you have to keep a fine balance between fleshing the world out and plot progression. If the pacing is too slow, you lose the audience’s engagement, but if it’s too fast you might leave the audience confused. I agree this scene would have been nice to see, but just tryna explain why “too long an episode” may be a problem even if they aren’t on a network. Personally I think I really liked Arcane’s pacing.

When you're creating a story there are a lot of things you have to cut. Considering the import of the rest of the scenes in that episode, I think they made the right move here to cut this particular scene; sometimes it's better to let us the audience imagine what a line like "the boy savior" could mean about Ekko and Jinx's shared past. By implying a relationship development that we don't get to see, it adds more depth to the story, and also gives the writers room to expand in the future if they choose. Smart writing tactic, smart storytelling.

Yeah, I guess it's left up to the audience to imagine some things. I appreciated it. And I easily got the message without the deleted scene that Ekko and Jinx were close childhood friends. But as has been the case with many, many shows that have been hugely successful, they have created sequels that explain at length every detail that was previously vague.

I think the fight scene gave enough context. The playfulness and then the sudden drawback into reality...and then the hesitation. I love it. I think if they added the scene it would have disregarded their "show rather than tell" approach. The fight scene showed enough, we don't need a scene to tell us of their relationship.

Yes, but it was literally the first time we saw them together, only them showing a real connection not being just the friend of a friend thing. I think even if the episode got a little longer it wouldn't matter and it would make a difference. And i don't think it invalidates the show not do thing, because we did in fact needed a little past from their relationship. We need this kinds of things, even if their just a "one more" scene of some interaction, we need that for us to emotionally understand what's going on. I don't know if it would make a big difference in the part of impact of the scene of their fight but i would sure as well like to have that included in the episode.

This also adds so much to the mural in the firelights hideout of all the people they lost. In the middle and so likely the first people painted are Vi and Powder. Vi makes sense since Ekko and Jinx thought she was dead. However, Ekko's inclusion of powder shows how much he gave up on her. Powder is dead/lost to him and is a reason for him to continue fighting like the others that are gone.

the scene would have given ekko a lot of credibility, and i hope they include it in the second season and the plot goes like this he goes searching for jinx again and he finds her and confront her that he is not here to fight her and remind her of the time when they were young and him trying to find/save her during the formation of the firelights and jinx snaps back by the fact that there is actually someone "in this case ekko" was looking for her and she wasn't alone after they toke vi away from her.

I really want to see a "behind the scenes" for this show. Perhaps one episode could detail deleted scenes, that'd be neat. I'm also interested in their reasonings for changing certain character designs, worldbuilding, and backstory aspects from the source material. Also, of course, the animation. Anything really! :D

As an artist I'm really interested in the art aspect of everything. If there ever were to be a "behind the scenes" I'd be incredibly intrigued to learn about the character designs. For example, I learned that Vi has a lot of "V's" incorporated in her design and, ignoring the obvious, it also gives interesting shape language - the hard edges of a V make for a much more rigid and aggressive design. Things like that, I'd like them to talk about why they made changes and what it means.

People out here talking about being subtle working in the ep when it CLEARLY didn't for alot of people. A significant # of people online automatically assumed that ekko never once tried to save her and immediately washed his hands of her as a lost cause. (it should've been obvious from the bitter way he talked to vi that he was warning her because he'd tried and failed) but unfortunately many didn't pick up on that subtlety and trashed ekko for saving everyone else but not caring about Powder. Whether Yt, Twitter, Tumblr, Reddit etc, that was a really common interpretation when the episode first dropped. This scene was ABSOLUTELY needed. Not only for the context it provides to what I just said but also because as many people have pointed out, their game, which was very impactful as it was, would've been even more powerful if we'd had any backstory on their relationship other than the mv. (That many either didn't watch at all or watched after episode 7.) From this interview and what one of the writers said on Twitter, I'm 100% sure they're repurposing that scene for season 2.

It would be cool if Riot allowed the team to make a short reanimating this deleted scene on youtube. Like a montage of Ekko coping his way through the death of his family, building a community and realizing that Powder may and still be alive. And it ends with Ekko having nothing to gain for his search of Powder but finding a new threat to his community. It’s could be like Annie: Origins, the short film that they released four years ago. It would make some really good promotion for the series and bring more hype to season two. Another thought towards this arc is if Ekko actually SWAYED Powder into his side, but then realizing what used to be his childhood friend was now a monster. Introducing Jinx and it concludes to Ekko betraying Jinx because she is detrimental to the Firelights, pushing the theme of Arcane and proving Silco’s statement in the Tea Party. “Her name is JINX, she’s lying. You’ll be with her a day before she realizes that you aren’t that girl anymore and turns her back on you.”

They gave us a scene of Mel and Jayce doing the devil's tango- a scene that I can almost guarantee NOBODY but Jayce wanted.. but couldn't give us one of the most important and and heartbreaking events out of the whole time skip that would've added so much more to their fight making it even MORE powerful then it already was, simply because "the episode was getting too long"? Hell the fuck to the no. But since I'm not going to let it sit like that in my brain I am going to make a list of reasons as to other reasons why they wouldn't have added it in. 1. Since they knew season 2 was going to happen early on and the time skip was in season 1 it might've been weird to show a flashback to a time skip that happened that same exact season. So instead of doing that they are simply going to put it in season 2 but for that to be the case they would probably have to add more to the flashback or more circumstances in the present since it would be weird to have a flashback about ekko and jinx if there are no more ekko and jinx scenes. Like if there's nothing going on between them in season 2 why would you give us a flashback to them if there's no need to. 2. They want to change what happened. Obviously what he said in the clip that it "cemented their relationship" or whatever he said so the scene must've been good but maybe they want to change it a little bit to make it more perfect. Idk change some lines, make it more dramatic, change settings a little bit, add more to it, but we will have no idea until season 2. I can't think of any more reasons but long story short, despite all the reasons I give, and excuses I make for the creators for removing a scene I want so dearly, I am very upset about this cut and hope I get to see it in season 2. But if you really have to make me wait that freaking long to see the one scene I think about 24/7 and think about before I fall asleep, then it better be worth the wait and be damn near perfect, but I trust the creators and I'm sure it'll all be worth it in the end :,) Edit: (Btw no hate to the sextech scene- I thought it was beautiful and important for the show and it was great I’m just salty

Sorry but I disagree with everything. The sex scene wasn't gratuitous like in other media that tries to present as "adult" - it was deliberately there to parallel with the scenes of Viktor ignoring Sky and giving birth to a more depraved side of hex tech. It was also there to drive the idea that there was a rift growing between Jayce and Viktor - one stayed committed to science while the other got in bed (literally) with politics. In contrast, the Jinx/Ekko exposition that was cut from the show can already be inferred by context clues, hence why it was safe to cut for streamlining. In fact, I would argue the finale to the seventh episode is more impactful because the audience is learning about Jinx and Ekko's past relationship as they're fighting to the death. If the audience already knew about Jinx and Ekko's history leading up to that fight, it would look like the whole art-style shift was done for "rule of cool" rather than for story-telling purposes because the information being presented visually would be redundant. I hope this didn't come off as mean. I've noticed a lot of other popular franchises and intellectual properties have a habit of leaving unnecessary scenes in or even pumping out new movies and shows to "fill in gaps" to pre-existing stories where it isn't necessary under the idea that it makes subsequent events more powerful or emotion to the viewer and it kind of gets under my skin. Arcane is one of the few media projects tied to something huge that respected the audience's intelligence and refused to do that to the very end - choosing only to present new information to the viewer. Legit the only moment I can think of where that trust in the audience is pulled away is when Jinx pulls out the flare Vi gave her as an adult and we hear Vi's voice in her head explaining what it is for the second time - but that's excusable because it was easy to forget given everything that happened in the third episode and how small that scene was. tl;dr even if they didn't want to cut the Ekko/Jinx exposition scene, I think it was the best choice.

To be fair I think the sextech scene was kinda necessary because it sort of is a twist on the "cheating on your partner" scene. It is filmed intentionally like an infidelity scene but in this case, Jayce is betraying the hextech dream that he had with Viktor in lieu of politics and social climbing. It just hammers home how much he's changed that while Viktor has to work overtime within an inch of his life for any semblance of him possibly living longer Jayce has the luxury to take it easy and merely worry about social problems and political affairs.

I do think it was overall a good choice to cut the jinx and ekko scene (though I still really wanna see it) and the sextech scene was very important for character development and I thought the scene was very beautiful and artistic and I love the way they executed it, I am just very salty cause I really really want to see what happened between jinx and ekko. I think it being left out was a good decision. I like it when shows don't always have to explicitly state what we can infer if brought to read into the intentional texts and subtexts of a show, particularly if we'll have more fun uncovering that later in the story in contrast to a short culminative explanation in one episode. I think it'll hit more for the characters to reveal themselves to the audience bit by bit in this case. Even feel more realistic and like we're more involved. And it'll make for a fun series rewatch.

With his dad dead, his friends and friends family dead and the only remaining survivor being Powder, it must have been difficult and traumatizing for him to start building his sanctuary from scratch

Considering the girl didn't want to be abandoned or alone, considering he went up against a fucking crime lord to get to her, considering he would be her last friend and family... I would like to know what happened. But it could be either put in season 2 or if not, I will require at least a comic of the scene

@@istandidol yeah but Vi/Caitlyn are almost canon and legit with their ship. Jinx and Ekko are nowhere near as close, barely know each other since preteen childhood. Like estranged childhood friends to mortal enemies, no enemies to lovers arc here and I don't want it either. Jinx got a better chance of a ship with Chuck or "Theirum" than Ekko lol. Actually no-one in Arcane's safe dating her, maybe Kayn in the game got a shot? Nah, I don't ever see Jinx in any relationship healthy or otherwise, too volatile. And the little man Ekko do be looking kinda like a lesbian, slightly, so I'd ship him with one of Firelight wackos hehehe. Or maybe Zeri might get introduced in Arcane or something idk how the story will go for him specifically.

I like schnee's point that Jayce is about the future, Vi and Jinx are stuck in the past, but Ekko focuses on the present. And that's why we didn't need a backstory. I also like the mystery and the trusting of the audience. We can fill in some blanks in our head about what has happened these past 6-8 years. They showed and didn't tell, and that was great. Regardless though, I do want to see this scene eventually!
