Completely agree with comment below, the old buses were so much part of the soul of the island. I am maltese but live in the UK and miss tbe old buses. Malta is slowly being turned into another boring and souless european island by all these EU laws and regulations.....stop it please!

I went malta for two weeks in July 2012, never went on a bus, hired a car for the whole time. Malta was so hot in July, don't know how anyone even drives a bus even with aircon

It's not uncommon to see bus drivers fighting each other. This happens all over the world. But this an interesting video, and very useful to students of Maltese. Arriva buses are used a lot in Wales.

@rodjames98 The old drivers that are now working with Arriva are arguing because they had signed a contract of 8 hrs a day but now Arriva says they need to work 12hrs because there are some drivers who do not want to work for such a low pay therefore f****** up the whole pre-planned roster that was agreed on. I agree with you, but the new system is working well now and steadily improving, more drivers are working and everything is beginning to settle down and take shape. Julian, 16

@rodjames98 they are talking of going on strike because they are claiming that the agreement they signed with arriva was for an 8 hour working day.when the first roster came out it was for a 12hr day splitt shift.so they were arguing that with that kind of shift they couldnt do a part time job.

All the drivers shown here in this interview including those who are being interviewed knows well enough that this interview was meant to be made public according to media procedures and rules.If anyone felt uncomfortable from such exposure he/she was free enough to be able to move away from the camera. That's what You Tube is all about.

@rodjames98 Basically they are saying that if they don't like their working hours they should leave their uniforms on the desks and leave, The guy in red at 1:03 is saying that they are supposed to work 12 hours for them to get payed 30 euros,If they work 11 hours 50 minutes they still won't get their paycheck,they must work 12 full hours,Then they were complaining about their shifts and stuff and they were supposed to not work today,And many of them are not working actually.

@rodjames98 the euro is good as you can travel to any european country which have the euro without exchanging the money from LM to euro, which is better. also i find it waste of time to learn a new currency if they dont use the euro if for example i go to uk i have to learn ur currency which is very confusing i like the euro and the new buses if tourists dnt like malta cuz of the money or buses then its their problem,i want to live good in my country.

I'm Arabic from Iraq, I understand what the Maltese drivers are saying. They work 11 hours and 5 minutes for 35 euros. That is bad!

who would have thought that the new arriva bus system was going to be even worse than the old ?! 0.0.. this is unbelievable -.- i don't know how many times i waited for a bus in san gwann and nothing passed... or else if a bus passed it was full and didnt stop -.- cos of this i missed my private lessons. on monday i also had to walk it from san gwann to ta'xbiex cos no frikken bus passed -.-' all we wanted was new buses as the old ones were falling apart ..we never asked for all this chaos.....

@rodjames98 i know the old buses attracted many tourists but as a maltese student i wasnt happy with those old buses.many drivers didnt care, such as taking long breaks,driving fast etc ....also there wasnt a system where you pay for a day no i had to pay 4 times a day as i used 4 buses and then there was no air condition so not the outside counts but the inside counts and if you visit malta just because of the buses then that is strange :S im happy now these new buses are in use

@europemale Thats the bright side dof the Euro that you can travel in certain places without changing the money. But comaring the euro money and the maltese lira there is a huge difference between them. For exmaple having 500 euros in maltese liri it's 214.65. The maltese lira were much better than then the euro.

They got their reply. Now the new buses are driven by more or less professional drivers, mostly foreign drivers that are really professional, though the new Maltese drivers are up to standard more or less. So who's talking now? You don't work, you get fired.

If the EEC hadn't stuck their nose in & destroyed a culture that the rest of Europe loved,we would still have the old buses & drivers. I had a wonderful 7 days holiday in 2010. There was nothing wrong with the drivers,all very good at their job, & nothing wrong with the old buses that a set of shock absorbers & shackle bushes would not have fixed The EEC are busy trying to ruin everything,the only benefit is everything is newer,if that IS actually a benefit. Since going in my life and my family's life has gottten nothing but better. Aye, We do wait for ages for busses, are you telling me this is any different from any other Country in the world? Before you answer that, think about it for a second! I have travelled the world MANY times and I can tell you, there is not much different. Arriva will get better give them time. It is nice though going onboard a bus without getting abuse. The Malta bus drivers (old busses), white taxies and red bus drivers are a bunch of tugs. Look what happened in the strike of 2008!

The former Maltese yellow bus owner-drivers are not bus drivers. They're thugs. They should be kept well away from Malta's public transport system. They forced the good British group Arriva out of Malta. Thanks to those drivers, Malta's public transport system remains similar to those found in developing countries and is an embarrassment.

Buses are never late, it's people and traffic that delay Bus Services. People getting onto a bus and then having to make the very important decision on where to bloody sit, ignorant car drivers who cut in front of a bus and then jump on their breaks with no thought for the Buses behind. A Bus may drive like a car, it certainly doesn't stop as quickly as a car. There are many tonnes of bus pushing forward. Drivers are only rude because of the daily stress they are exposed to; most passengers are just as rude, pushy and ignorant to the fact that the responsibility lays with the Driver; to take them to their destination in a safe manner and passengers, pedestrians and other drivers make that task tricky. Bus Driving isn't easy; it's mentally and physically exhausting.
