Absolutely fantastic review. I do have to say that I would go for the DBS over the 812 Superfast any day . It is drop dead gorgeous. Yes the gearbox isn’t like the 812 but that is not what this car is about. It’s the perfect match for power and comfort. I can imagine the 812 is very unforgiving if you are not careful. Especially with all that power. I mean. Come on. Most of the car reviewers like Clarkson and Harris said the Ferrari has too much power. I think the DBS sits right in the sweet spot between the 812 Superfast and the continental GT. it’s not on the knife edge in responsiveness like the 812 but it is also not as stately as the Continental. Well done Aston for hitting the sweet spot. I will have mine in Matt Grey with yellow accents and dark genres wheels. Excellent video as always. Looking forward to seeing what you have next on you’re channel

I think you should just cancel the 812 and order this. You already have a Ferrari V12 and you need a Aston in your garage. And NO its not the most powerful road going Aston ever made. That is the One-77. I want one of these, can´t afford one at the moment, but maybe used in a few years. Great video though.
@stefangrubesic27086 жыл бұрын
Denis Spratt If it was a double clutch he maybe would do so, I say maybe because I think that he is building himself a slot for 812 TDF (or whatever it will be called) by buying the 812 Superfast and already having F12 TDF, F12 Berlinetta and two 458 Speciales

Why would he purchase a car for this money if its worse than Mercedes S63 Copue, Bentley Conti GT and even Lexus LC500? :D Guys wake up! Good review as usual , I feel Aston should of gone the extra and fitted a double clutch , if you want the complete package , and lets face it ultra quick changes are the real deal, then they were lackadaisical,in not including it in the new range of cars . Aston are rebranding themselves looks wise , getting ahead of the game with boundary pushing technological new designs , interiors exteriors engines running gear and names ,all elevating this old company into the exciting new age , keeping older customers ,and attracting new blood . So someone somewhere made a big gaffe signing off the new cars with out the double clutch option, it just gives a whifff of oh that will be alright , and that is so old Aston , and really not what the New Aston , is portraying. It's the details every time , that can just be a flaw in an otherwise pretty flawless diamond.
@savannahkorben73536 жыл бұрын
They should've just offered a nice 6 speed manual like Chevy does with the Vette. Their auto box isn't up to snuff with the dual clutches out of Germany/Italy so they give you the manual.
@F1ll1nTh3Blanks6 жыл бұрын
iifymbro it's a super GT, what don't you get about that.. manuals are reserved for sports cars like Vantage, Vette ans 911. Other than that I kind of see what you mean. Single auto's are getting good, but top line just don't have what the duel clutch has.
@F1ll1nTh3Blanks6 жыл бұрын
Mikhail Sven agreed but still it's not all that lightweight tbf. I mean it's still almost 2 tones.
@savannahkorben73536 жыл бұрын
So what if it's a super GT, if anything that increases the desire for a manual because it'll be 100% run on the street which is boring enough driving as it is without having a computer do the whole shifting process for you.
@F1ll1nTh3Blanks6 жыл бұрын
iifymbro you see that's funny, because last I heard GTs are mile crunchers, not smaller city cars or sports cars. I mean sure you could lob a manual in it and still do the 500+ mile stretch.. but I am pretty sure you'd prefer an auto of some sort. Ultimately its a super "GT", not a "sports" GT or sports car or supercar. I get it sure would be fun and all but.. when it comes down to it it's still a GT and still for the cross country as apposed to what you'd be using other cars for.

James, have you ever considered to write a letter to the BBC to be the new "Jeremy Clarkson" on Topgear? I really love your car reviews on this channel. You use your own words, but it has some of Clarkson's dna in it that I liked so much in the early days of Topgear. The new DBS is a lovely GT car but as you say it will never compete with the 812 superfast in terms of performance and gearshifting. But the in- and exterior are beautifull!

Am i the only one that thinks the last generation of Astons, particularly the later ones, were FAR prettier cars! Id take a 2015 V12 Vantage over any new Aston on the market. As for the gearbox, i feel theyve always lacked in the department compared to its competition. But Aston Martin is about more then that.

I'd take the old DBS over any newer Aston Martin. Second to that would be the Vanquish.. I think this is the sweet spot in the Super GT class. The Bentley is very nice and fast but a tad tame because it’s AWD and safe. The Ferrari 812 Superfast is just too angry to be a relaxing GT on long drives. @paulbeddow34896 жыл бұрын
The ZF 8 speed gearbox is a lot more compact and seriously lighter than a double-clutch. The extra weight of a double-clutch is increasing the emissions of vehicles that use them. Downshifts can only occur when the correct rpm are achieved in the relevant gear, so pull the minus paddle too early, and you will have to wait for the downshift. Double-clutches also struggle with high torque engines, they are better in high rpm/bhp applications.

According to Andy Palmer CEO of AM if you put a dual clutch transmission in the DBS it would add weight, cost more, and it would be slower. Of course he has a commercial interest to say so, but you have to ask yourself why are many other top manufacturers changing to the ZF. You harp on about the down shift having a dwell and the engine not revving to 9000 rpm but does it have to with a 12 cylinder and its massive torque. The crux of it is that it’s so much more classy and beautiful than its competitors.

Interior is the biggest disappointment for me. It's not that it doesn't look good but for a car that when fully specced would almost be £100K over a DB11 I'd expect more than the DB11 interior with shift paddles borrowed from the new Vantage and new seats. Apart from that love the car, saw and sat in one in the flesh, it looks stunning in person and the interior is comfy and very well finished.
