I agree, I’ve run 450 km in my V12 and it feels flat and dull, especially compared to the many other shoes I own. I still sometimes use it for short runs in bad weather mainly. Will likely buy V13 when it hits sales here in Finland, it seems to be more soft, bouncy and fun.

These were on sale for $122 on Black Friday week and I haven't seen them discounted since then. The 1080v12 was very hard to find discounted in their first year as well. They are $90 or less at Joe's New Balance so they do go on sale but the 1080 line is one of the more resistant to price drops.

What a great review of the 1080. I find the experiences I had with my shoe spot on with the details Kofuzi provides. In my opinion I believe if you go with the 1080 you'd be more likely to stick to zone 2 vs the Rebel v4. My only complaint about New Balance is the outsole. I really wish they would address the issue with excessive wear on the shoe bottoms.

Totally agree about the rubber wear. I have 160km/100miles on mine, as a lateral heel/midfoot striker the rubber doesn't go to the edge enough, so the foam is taking a little beating. By 300ish km I'll have lateral rocker on the shoe.

I just bought the rebel v4s and even though the cushioning on them is great, I've been thinking of getting something with a bit more of a softer feel for those long slow runs or easy runs. Do you reckon it's still worth getting the 1080 v13 if I already have the rebel v4? As the rebel seems to be aimed slightly more at those tempo and speedier interval training sessions

@@harrisonevans1802 yep, I follow his channel, he's been doing really nice vlogs and reviews! He even took his little kid for a run with him these past days, was so cool! Indeed he found the shoe to be quite dull for the modern standards, which makes total sense. But the 880 has the intention of offering a more traditional package (a firmer ride, stability and a lot of rubber on the outsole) something that doesn't seem to please him very much. New Balance is now offering all-around daily trainers that suit different preferences, from the classic style 880 to the all new rockered and bouncy Balos. Hope Kofuzi takes the shoe a bit farther to see if the foam breaks down a bit.

Firstly, great channel, well done. Would you pick the 1080v13 over the Nimbus 25 as a daily trainer AND recovery day shoe? I just bought the Nimbus and I feel it “sucks” a bit of the energy out of my run, allowing for only slow paces (which, to be fair, is what I actually need, but it’s a bit boring). Btw, the reason I went for the Nimbus 25 is the huge price difference in Europe. I got the N25 for €120 while the 1080s retail for €190! Worth the price difference?
@meangirlbecca
@meangirlbecca 2 ай бұрын
I've had two pairs of the Nimbus 25 and loved the shoe. Agreed that it comes across as too much cushion and energy sucking but it seems to work for me fine for easy runs with slight pace pick-ups. I think it could be more durable than the 1080v13 as I don't see a lot of wear and tear at all. The big difference to me is that the Nimbus has an 8mm drop while the 1080v13 has 6mm. I've noticed a significant change to my foot strike and which muscles I use more with these two shoes. For me the 1080v13 is a bit easier on the knees. The Nimbus 25 is cheaper now because it's an older model - the Nimbus 26 has been out for quite some time already.

@@meangirlbecca Hey! Thanks for replying. Meanwhile, I‘ve covered about 160 km with my Nimbus shoes and love them! I began as a heavier runner and with my old shoes, me knees would kill me in pain after every run, even if that was slow. With the Nimbus I am almost pain-free (though I‘ve also lost a significant amount of weight) and I feel like they protect my legs. Regarding the speed thing I mentioned in my initial comment, I feel like the shoes don‘t really hold me that much back. In fact, I like them so much that I ran my first ever 10K competitions in them, improving my 10K time to from 1:06:45 to 1:01:14 in my first effort ten days ago and down to 1:00:09 yesterday! That might sound slow -and it probably is- but it‘s the fastest I‘ve ever run such a distance. My only problem with the shoes is the grip in wet conditions, as they can be very slippery on some road surfaces.

Just got this shoe to try as I went through two pairs of Nimbus 25 and wanted to try something different. Love that it seems to force more fore- to mid-foot strike for me due to a lower drop (I think this is 6mm while Nimbus is 8mm?) so my knees are happier. The two runs I've taken this shoe on so far had felt effortless and I think it's a keeper. The cushion does have a slight sinking feeling but not bad to the point that it's sucking energy. I do question the durability and how fast the foam will flatten and wear out though, because right now fresh out of the box it feels so nice but I can see that over time it'll feel dead. Hopefully it'll last me at least 300 miles before that happens!

@@Scott_800 Hey glad you followed up on my comment because I’ve been absolutely loving the 1080. I feel like I trend faster in the 1080 without exerting extra energy. I know a lot of people find the 1080 too soft but to me it’s definitely not as soft as the More v4. I think you should give it a try. My Strava shows that I’ve logged over 140 miles on the 1080 as I write this so I think it’s still going strong. I love using it for all my easy runs and recovery runs, it's also great for casual use and walking a lot. Two minor issues for me: (1) the outsole seems to wear out a bit fast (I'm a midfoot striker), and when picking up the pace, I exert more effort -- granted, they're not for speed workouts. Overall, incredibly great shoes. I'd love another pair just like my Rebel v3. Maybe kofuzi can give me a pair 🤣

I already passed 100 miles on my pair, and they are good ,but not that good for the high price it cost. I find the cushioning not too good to absorve impact when I heel strike. And it is also a bit wobbly for my taste. Score 7/10 . Can't wait for the More v5 ! It should be a better pair of shoes for my taste: high soft cushioning that absorve better the impact of the foot strikes and the guardrails it has to make them much less wobbly them the 1080 v13.

I love this shoe, but I feel like it changed a bit after a bit of mileage. I’m on pair #2, and even after only 150 miles the new vs old comparison is a big difference. It still feels great, but it changed quite a bit, but I think the less dense fresh foam x is less durable
@kofuzi

I recognize that this is likely an unpopular opinion, but I will (within reason) accept less durability for more enjoyable running experience
@alansutherland6663

@@kofuzi I’ve been on both sides of that coin. I used to value durability extremely highly, but with access to more options and quantity of shoes than before, the trade off is becoming more reasonable for me

Hi! I'm new here... If both the 1080v13 and the rebelv3 are daily trainers after all - whats the vs btwn them?
@kofuzi
@kofuzi 2 ай бұрын
They are different foams with different experiences to them. The 1080 is a bouncy all-rounder. The Rebel is a daily trainer that can be used for light workouts too

What is the difference between FuelCell and Fresh Foam ?
@michaeltanel3815
@michaeltanel3815 3 ай бұрын
Fuelcell is their speedy foam. Not necessarily Peba but it's light and springy. Fresh Foam is specialized EVA but softer cushioning for daily training and recovery shoes. If you know Adidas, Fuelcell = Lightstrike Pro and Fresh Foam = Lightstrike 2.0

which one would you choose Rebel v4 or 1080 v13?

I feel like the shoes have slightly different use cases, so it would depend on what else a person has in their rotation and what they prefer. But since the question specifically asks which shoe I’d prefer, I’d say Rebel.

Am I the only one having quality issues with the mesh material on New Balance running shoes? It dissolves for me quickly on the outer side creating big holes, even different shoe models all having in common this mesh material. This was not happening before when other material was used for the upper shoe part.

Between the 1080 v13 and the newest generation of Hokas, the 1080 is more comfortable than any of their comfort shoes. The new generation of Bondi feels more like a clunky Nike; the “nik-ification” of hoka has made me sad.
