New Balance SC Elite v3 after 210 Miles

I love the shoe! So comfortable. Hate the yellow colour, but it's the one I could get relatively cheap. I've heard others talk about the sock liner sliding out in the RC Elite V2 (also one of my favourites), but I don't have that experience, fortunately. I agree that getting a good lockdown can be quite the challenge initially, I had a hard time even getting my feet in the first time.

How are you getting on with the shoes? I just picked up a pair at my local Dick's Warehouse Sale for $136 USD because the price was so good. I use a couple pair of Endorphin Speed 3 for my workouts and races, and Glycerin 20s for easy stuff. Never had a carbon plated shoe so hopefully these will make a good entry to real race day shoes. I haven't decided if I love or hate the yellow yet.

@@TheTacticalButterknife New Balance shoes just seem to suit me very well, and this shoe is no exception. Even though I love sock like uppers, I do feel they could improve on this one. I'm not using the shoes at the moment, because the current weather conditions can be tricky here, so I like to wear something with solid grip (like the Puma Deviate Nitro 2).

@@theghostofpcs2391 The NB SC Elite 3 is my favorite shoe. Any shoe you would recommend which feels similar to you since the elite 3 is basically out of stock. I'm not finding anything I like as much.

@@robinwhite584 That's a tough one, because New Balance had a very typical feel with the shoes that have the same 'energy arc' setup. I have enough shoes, but nothing quite like it when it comes to race shoes. But if you're in Europe, Runningxpert still has a lot of sizes in 2 colours left.

I bought a pair initially for a Marathon shoe which it performed great with the exception of noticing bottoming out on the forefoot. I didn’t really warm to it though, I guess (despite a PB) it didn’t feel ‘race day’ enough’). Since then I’ve had it as a training shoe and I’ve loved it. I’m nearly 400 miles in and it’s now starting to get thinning in the upper in the toe box.

Thanks for the review! My only gripe is that I don't get NB shoes with their fit and sizing. While this shoe fits me like a glove in my size 9, I had to go half size up for SC range even though Fresh Foam X (1080v12, More V4) shoes feel a bit big in size 9. There were some sales in NB online store for New York version of SC Elite V3 and I couldn't be happier I got one then. Feels great and I'm happy to see it holds up for you over the distance.

I've heard that the bungee lace system is prone to breaking. Any experience with that?

I’m 214 miles into mine (just did a 18 mile long run yesterday) and haven’t had any issues. Been using them for training and I’m surprised myself in how long they’ve lasted

100% agree on the softness. It'd be nice for training but if you aren't a fan of soft/squishy shoes (which admittedly I'm not) then racing in it would be iffy. Also I hate sock uppers. Hate. Please stop shoe companies

Too soft. And according to my daughter new balance is "mid" . So i race in adidas. My dad is "grampo" he likes New balance. Nothing wrong with that. Thats just what it is.

Does it has a good space in the toebox? for long easy miles is it stable? wide midfoot? Thanks

There is decent space in the toe box but I would not describe it as roomy and definitely not like an Altra or Topo. I did not find it stable for long easy miles because of how soft it is. The midfoot is normal width. Due to the sock like upper, there is some give which makes the shoe very comfortable for me. I typically prefer a wider toe box and this shoe gives me no issues.

I like it but I did turn an ankle on some uneven ground. As the bottom is split into two left and right so can be unsteady on uneven ground.

My problem with the way shoes feel after a few runs is that I don't know if the shoe changed or my brain got used to it?

I don’t think that would hold - the shoe repair glue has held for several months, so if it slips again and the shoe is still runnable I’ll get it re-glued

I got the blueish/teal colorway of these and love them. Love them for long runs but prefer the Adios Pro 3 for racing.
