This new model is similar to the previous A1 Mini but with a bigger printing volume.
The A1 is also capable of multicolor printing if you add the AMS Lite unit.

They stopped selling A1 everywhere, there's been a recall because of the cable powering the bed beeing a potential fire hazard. Until they figure out what is wrong you won't be able to buy A1.

Between the a1 mini and a1, which do u reckon is more reliable and less maintenance since they have different mechanics for the axis?

Fun fact. Print area (on bed) is not strictly the same as X1* or P1*. It's bigger in A1 for "normal" case. X1 and P1 have one corner small area excluded from printing by default and require tinkering (like 3d printing and installing part) to make it usable (procedure described on bambu wiki).

From other reviews (Aurora Tech for one) - the A1 and P1S print similarly. The big difference is in the P1S being more easily enclosed, allowing for printing toxic and/or heat sensitive materials like ABS or nylon. If you print in mainly PLA and have no plan on changing soon, the A1 + the AMS lite is cheaper than the P1S without the AMS - A1 is a no-brainer

thanks for thereview! The material limitations were not listed as a con... because of the type of printer it is? I'm a bit of a beginner (ok a total beginner) but not sure if i will miss the inability to print other types of material in the future.

As a beginner, you'll be fine. The material limitations are mainly because it's not enclosed, not because it can't print them. ABS is highly toxic and temperature-sensitive - multiple nightmare Reddit posts from people printing without an enclosure and coming back to a failed print because someone opened the door to their cooled room and the cool gust of air caused rapid shrinkage. PLA, PETG and TPU will cover like 80-90% of your use cases. Otherwise, buy either the P1P or the Creality K1 for printing in ABS or ASA for parts you need for high UV and thermal resistance (car parts, mechanical parts, etc). This printer with the AMS lite is cheaper than an enclosed printer without a multi color system. If you don't care, the price value becomes even better. You can always just buy an aftermarket enclosure later

Open frame printers can print ABS but not as reliable and not as big parts as enclosed printers. I printed around 40 holders (around 10x4x3cm). I had around three failed prints. The holders are mounted on my roof exposed to UV, rain, heat and cold.. no issues after 5 years.. But I used a very good filament (approx 50 Euros per kilogram)

@ibrahimoshodi4472 ​thanks, very helpful! My first project is actually heating ventilators (for some added efficiency) - so there is some requirement for temperature stability. I am tending towards the P1S or P1P.. Will have another look into the creality K1. (edit: Bambu wins in all reviews... I'm definitely going with the Bambu lab)

There is
