Wonderful set list. As always, the Gurkhas make us both humble and proud. One of the most revered parts of the British Army.

I always thought that the band was a new feature in the ghurkas. Not so. Apparently it was founded in 1859 and served with the british army until 1947 when India was partitioned, the 2nd Goorkhas then chose to affiliate with Britain and sailed for Sungei Patani in Malaya with the Band Instruments. However, no bandsmen went with them because they had all chosen to remain in India. So In 1949 the british army sanctioned the training of a new band, with 56 recruits beginning their army service. The Band of the Brigade of Gurkhas is based in Kent. From google.

Interesting. I was told that the late Duke of Edinburgh saw them and decided he wanted a battalion in the UK.

Appropriate that the opening march was a fine rendition of "Punjaub"! I thought the woodwind section were excellent !
