The live version of the song is a medley with the side 2 of the Abbey Road album. It is from the 'Live In Europe' DVD... absolutely gorgeous and masterfull. A really good treat if you want to give it a second spin. Thank you for shining light on this band, they are sooo underrated and unknown! Cheers from Argentina.

Nice reaction 👍🏻. Yes, check out Marillion, another super group!! The combo 'Hotel hobbies/Warm wet circles/That time of the night' is awesome! And 'Ocean cloud' and 'Gaza' (live) aslo

Cool reaction. Thank you. To not listen to "Duel With The Devil" an "Stranger In Your Soul" off this album would be a crime. However, "My New World" off S.M.P.T.e is in your time range. "Suite Charlotte Pike" is an homage to side two of Abbey Road by The Beatles. Basically, a collection of unfinished songs mashed together. And like Abbey Road was recorded off Abbey Rd, Bridge Across Forever was recorded off a road called Charlotte Pike.

Great stuff! For a shorter Transatlantic track, "Still Spinning" from disc 2 of The Whirlwind is one of my favorites by them, and just under 10mins (and no, it isn't part of the 72min epic title track). The Flower Kings are another modern prog band you should definitely check out! A great starting point is their track "There Is More To This World" (it's the one that first hooked me years ago), from 1996's Retropolis.

Checkout "All Of The Above" from their first record.

My New World is a "shorter" song in Transatlantic terms. Still kind of a mini epic 😂 (and a really good song too). Other than that, I'd really recommend you just "take the plunge" and go with one of their longer epics like 'Stranger In Your Soul', which was kind of referenced here at one point. That's where the real meat is. That, or a good chunk off of 'The Whirlwind', which is really one big piece, similarly to 'The Wall' and such. Live versions are also a blast!

This is not a totally terrible choice for a first song, considering that it was deliberately written as an homage to the Beatles. But man...you're doing yourself a major disservice if you don't pick an epic next - *they're what the band is **_known_** for and where they truly shine the brightest.* It doesn't have to be a 30+ minute one though; in fact, independent of length, I would still select their shortest classic epic, from the same album ( _Bridge Across Forever_ ): "Duel with the Devil" (which is under 27 minutes). "Suite Charlotte Pike" gives you an idea of their songwriting chops, vocal abilities (all band members contribute vocals) and musicianship, but because they're paying tribute to The Beatles in recognition of the impact that band had on their lives, their actual _sound_ is not really represented. "Duel with the Devil" is among their top 3 songs of all time (some would put it as #1), and is no question one of the best prog epics ever written (up there with "2112," "Octavarium" and "Close to the Edge"). Also, I know it's tempting (as it's only 5.5 minutes long), but the SONG "Bridge Across Forever" is by no means representative of their sound either, being written by Neal Morse (in collaboration with a non-band member, unlike their other songs, which are written by all four band members working together), and featuring just a solo voice and piano/keys. It's a great song, but not really a Transatlantic song. Just one fan's opinion (but I'm right ;-) ). The fact is...their best songs, the songs that made them a legendary progressive super-group, are all extremely long.

I'm in total agreement, the song Bridge Across forever is the one weak point in an otherwise stellar album.
@VoIcanoman2 жыл бұрын
@@sidecardog5244 I wouldn't call it weak, just...not Transatlantic. For a Neal Morse song, it's pretty good. And it was very awesome live as well (heard it on the 2010 Whirld tour). But the first and last song on _Bridge Across Forever_ are two of the best prog epics ever written, and yet some people avoid them because they're *_long._* That's no excuse in my books...Beethoven's 5th symphony takes 30-40 minutes to enjoy (depending on the conductor's decisions) and it's still considered one of the best musical compositions ever written...people don't avoid it because it's long. :p

Great reaction! Transatlantic is maybe my favorite prog band of the last 2o years. They are well known for their long epics. You might want to check Stanger in Your Soul on your own time. However, I'll give you three "shorter" songs to get a taste of their genius: The World We Used to Know (from their 2021 release The Absolute Universe- 10min) , Mystery Train (another semi Beatles homage - 6 min), and My New World (a 16 minute epic and the most newbie friendly song from their 1999 first album SMPTe). Of course, their real masterpiece is the 77 minute long song/album is The Whirlwind. Maybe start with the opening three sections...Overture/Whirlwind/The Wind Blew them All Away (about 15 minutes).

Asking Transatlantic and short songs, really doesn't work. It is like going to be the best Cheff in the world and ask him to cook you a hot dog. Maybe Transatlantic isn't a good fit for your channel if you are worried for the lengths of the songs. That being said, I double up the bet and I suggest you listen to their 72 minutes abosulte epic and masterpiece 'The Whrilwind'

You probably chose one of their less good songs and it does not well represent the band at all. You won’t find much less than 30 minutes stuff from Transatlantic. Better Transatlantic suggestions: Duel With The Devil All Of The Above The Whirlwind (in its entirety, it is a long epic album) The Absolute Universe (also in its entirety, don’t try to break that into multiple pieces, it will lose its sense) Into The Blue Stranger In Your Soul
