New Bantam Coop Design

Decided that the old Design was just way to big for the Bantams, so built them a new design, I'm always looking to improve my chickens well being in any way I can, so this is just another way I was able to

• How to build a Chicken...
Materials list
20-2x4x8
5-2x4x12 (these will make your legs and door braces, cut at 65 inches, makes 10 boards)
3ftx50ft roll of wire
4-hinges
10-6ft sheets of tin (8 for your sides and roof, and 2 for the center wall, you'll cut 1 in half)
2- 8ft sheets of tin (these are for the back wall)
staples for attaching the wire
roofing screws for attaching the tin
screws for connecting boards, I recommend #9x3 inch deck screws, and of course 2 1/2 inch pocket screws if you use a pocket hole jig setup
1-2x2x8 (cut into 6 inch pieces for the outside and inside latch)

inside coop, vertical tin could cause a flying chicken toe to get stuck or broke, maybe rip a pine board to cover exposed tin edge. really like your coop design, good job.

It's a very interesting design, the only con I see is the sharp sheet metal going down to kid height, kids and sharp edges don't mix.

Yea I’ve been trying to figure out some nice way of covering them without it looking ugly, but luckily we don’t have kids right now so no worries at the moment 😂

I collect eggs daily, so the nesting buckets are not actually intended for them to hatch eggs in, just lay in

I'm considering making mine only 3-4 feet tall. Bantams don't necessarily need as much height as a full size chicken. I was thinking of making the roof open as well in order to avoid the need for doors. Maybe even make it more mobile. Not too sure yet, but your video is giving me a lot of ideas.

I do mine 6ft so that I can walk in it myself as well without having to squat down or hit my head lol

@@thevaughnhomestead makes sense. I'm 6 foot, so I can sympathize. I was just considering using a hatch style roof so I can save on lumber and wire. I have a bunch of reclaimed lumber, but I don't have enough for that size. But I like the style.

Love your design it’s the best one I’ve seen for bantams. Could you just list all the wood needed to make it . I could figure it out by the dimensions, trying to make one this weekend.

20-2x4x8 5-2x4x12 (these make all the legs and boards connecting from top to bottom, just cut them at 63” which will make it 6’ tall

Do you buy the metal sheets in sheets of 5 . If so where do you buy them ?

@@CorneliusMaximus69 I buy the tin from Home Depot, they sell them in individual sheets, I buy 2- 8ft sheets for the back and 10- 6ft sheets which do the sides and roof and the pieces inside
