I actually love 128. I think 64 is more competitive. You have more of an impact on your team's performance. But I love the choice between utter chaos or just playing laid back in 128. The maps more than anything impact the game.

Sometimes 64 players can feel more busy than 128 I agree. I've adapted to love 128 though

You know you can camp in 64 too right…? 128 is not laid back at all if you’re actually playing the game instead of sitting on the edge of the map or in spawn just hanging out.

Both have their place. 64 brings that classic BF controlled chaos, while 128 (with larger like day 1 maps) is perfect for a chaotic sandbox mode. 128 just feels like theres multiple smaller games going on with hotspots, and random snipers going for +1000m kills.

Only way we can get 128 games here(NZ/AU) is in portal. No one ever in the official big lobbies since I've been playing the game.

Yeah it’s so annoying. Can’t fully rank up weapon or specialist tiers on Portal if that’s something you want to do, plus the auto-balancing never works so we often have 60 vs 40 player matches.

I love the huge maps (128 players). The smaller version of Exposure for example is MUCH worse than the big one, regardless of the player count. I love the fact that different parts of the map look and feel different. I recently played BF1 and all the flag areas were feeling and looking the same within a map. In the next BF if they make the maps smaller ind decrease the player count they need to make maps like RENEWAL. Interesting and different looking flag areas. In BF2042 I also loved the big distances, it did go well with the vehicle call in system. It was impossible to spawn trap a team. The pondhawk was a very important addition to the game. Many aspects of Bf2042 will be missed in the next BF title.

They don't actually say they are returning to 64 players and I don't trust them at all. They say something about wanting compact maps, but that could just mean they want to make sure 128 player maps don't have as much wide open space. Who knows. 128 players was a dumb decision, but they made it despite a lot of play testing over the years and deciding 64 was a sweetspot and 32 was best for some modes. They still did it because... it sounds 'bigger'? Who knows. 64 players is sometimes to chaotic to be 'fun', but 128 is almost guaranteed random unfun death interspersed with boring.

Do you have crossplay enabled? I find full 128 player matches no bots often, just depends on the time of day. If you don’t want to play against pc players that’s fine, but all you have to do is take a good look at your settings and tweak them you can compete just fine

I was reading the BF2042 steam discussions earlier and found a post stating "128 players requires higher level thinking," and I wager that others who play 128p would agree with that statement; 64p is simply too basic and boring for some people. I'd be really disappointed if DICE didn't entertain 128 player battles by introducing at least 1 map built for it in the next game

Doesn't matter if it's 128 or 64 players, Squid is successful at the game because he's not out to get wins. He's out to have fun exploiting predictable player habits. Trying to start a 128 player game mode on console is impossible. You can't have games with 128 players, once the fans leave the game and there aren't enough players to populate the servers, the games are full of aim bots that never miss. 64 and 32 player game modes are better,

It’s the tone of the game that kills me. Am I alone in thinking that fps games should be dark and gritty..? That’s what made the greats. 3, 4, bf1.. heck, even bf5 had some grit. 2042 just doesn’t feel like battlefield to me.. I want the grit. Fast ttk. Objective focused mayhem. Concentrated points of conflict and funnel maps are the key to great battlefield maps imho. Back when Medal of Honor was essentially a beta it felt so much darker and grittier, as combat games should. I don’t want the map to feel like bikini bottom.. I want those operation metro vibes. The locker vibes. The helo-fights between Shanghai skyscrapers.. pushing the summit at Iwo.. make battlefield dark again 🤘🏻🫡

I guess 128 players limits what Dice can accomplish with the maps, with regards to total mamory use. If I guess correctly, 64 players will allow for more destruction/levolution

All 128 player size maps are better than the 64 player version on 2042. Breakaway might be the only one that is great on 64. I think spearhead is the best map. Very BF. On 128 players it feels like a war. A tug of war. You can see that 2042 wasn’t design for 64. Exepth the last 3-4 maps. Reclaimed plays great. But I will miss those big maps. Variety is key.
