I still remember when I played this, went into the pharmacy, and you get that steam and then you turn around and a guy is standing behind you ... scared me to death. The first game also has a directors commentary with Ken Levine, it's pretty neat. Especially when you realize some of the things they did that were such a huge part of the games atmosphere, were due to technical and budget limitations. Technical limitation was actually one of the reasons they chose to make the setting under water, so they wouldn't have to worry about issues with draw distance. Or the fact that certain characters were cast in shadow or obscured in someway by lighting (Tenebaum) when they spoke, because they couldn't afford to create more character models and had to reuse a few.

If you’re talking about scary games; I remember I bought Silent Hill:Downpour back in the day a little after it came out (and finished it within the 7 days 😉). It opened up in a mental hospital shower and was full of jump scares, eerie sounds and music, with the whole storyline and process of the game (to me) being so shady and sinister that it’s just always stuck with me since
