My grandparents lived in New Bern for almost 20 years. I used to love going there in the summer, and not too far from Atlantic Beach either.

@SilverHawk That is the Neuse River. It flows in Raleigh as well. This location flows into the Pamilco Sound then into the Atlantic. I live here. It is Beautiful 😊

There are some lakes in the national forest that are pretty close to New Bern. The closest and probably most accessible lake is Catfish Lake. There is also a former quarry that the city now uses at a reservoir which is next to a small lake at Martin Marietta Park on Glenburnie Dr, the park is adjacent to the Neuse, good fishing there.

the hometown of Pepsi, this town used to be the first town for the capitol before Raleigh. what I like about New Bern is that it's a town by the Neuse River. what a great pl;ace to call home.

The best downtown in NC for me

Thanks for the video now I get to show my family up North where I take my daily walks. FYI at 20:13 where you turned left - that's Queen St. not E. Front St. - I live a few blocks from the Salvation Army Store that's on the right side. 😊

This video is of what we use to call “Downtown”. The older section of New Bern…now a mishmash of 100+ year old buildings with newer structures. I’d say less than 10% of the population lives in that area. Much of it is the “projects” and older little houses now owned by mostly blacks. Two sections are mostly white, Spencer Ave. area and the Front St./King St. sections many of which are historical homes kept in immaculate condition by rich white folks. Lots of historical houses and Tryon Palace are attractions. All the main businesses are on MLK Jr. Blvd. (Walmart, Target, McDonalds, Grocery stores, etc) with a bunch more centered in that area. Surrounding that are most of the homes in New Bern. James City, Bridgeton (both across the river) are counted in New Bern’s population as are Trent Woods and River Bend areas. I think it’s about 30,000 now. A fairly quiet town, but becoming more dangerous every day.😢
