WATCH OUT WITH THE MIGRATOR!!!!! Dshot is not safe to use in the migrator because if you run a copy/ paste in the CLI, the default filter settings will not change like they do if you change to bidirectionele dshot in the gui. If you change it in the gui in a new setup, you will get a warning that the filter settings will/need to change if you choose to use bidirectional dshot @joshua, please note this in your video.

@@rp479 yes exactly. And than when you choose the motor protocol and bidirectional dshot later, it will change the filter settings automaticly

@@rp479 means don't use the stupid migrator tools - can't believe it was even suggested.. AGAIN.., set up only takes a few mins, go threw it and look at the new options and features.. enjoy the set up.. doesn't take long and isn't done often (unless u run a DEV build ~Daily)

New GPS rescue is a bomb. You don't need to get your quad back to exactly same spot if radio link is lost. +/- 10 meters is just fine. This definitely convinced me to install GPS receiver on my freestyle quads - both 3" and 5" ones. Luckily I ordered few a year ago and they still wait in a shelf for their hour :)

Freestyle and GPS resque might be a bit tricky. Sometimes its better to have it drop than fly into a top of a tree or smash into wall/ceiling.

@@rehepeks Yep, that can happen. In my practice however RF loss happened in a distance at wrong angle. Usually due to incorrectly placed receiver. GPS rescue then is almost perfect solution.

ive been away fir 2 years. nice to see u still here. building 3 5", a 7" 14" and 4", two Z80, a TBS Caipirinha 2. Pixhawk and Ardupilot on wings and 15", iNav6 on the 7" and Betaflight on the rest. Keep em coming!

The first thing BF does when GPS rescue is activated, is to climb X metters (you can adjust that value there) and It does it pretty fast. Then it heads to the origin place.

@@ZorrotorFPV I had the setting set to Max Alt meaning that the GPS automates to the max height I did in the flight, I definatley never went that high, it would have carried on going if I hadn't have returned full control.

I am not sure why that would be the case as if the feature is not being used its not going to be running in the loop just sitting in the flash memory ready to be selected to run should you need it.

You won’t need to in the final release. It will detect that a HD VTX is connected and automate the configuration.

@@SteveCEvans yeah as I mentioned in my comment... it's in RC-5 already also not "detect" but rather when MPS+Displayport is set ..though the PR does say "detect" it's not correct (Automatically apply HD settings if HD VTX is detected #12184 ), as u manually select that option...

What you ask isn't possible with the standard dshot beeper protocol as far as I know. This is because the motors are used to make the beeping. A standard beeper would be able to do this no problem though.

For those also resource mapping servos you'll need to use the Classic (non custom cloud) builds. Apparently the custom build only lets you choose one motor protocol. So you can't customize a build with both DSHOT and PWM.

You've been at these video tutorials for a long time now. They've definitely helped us all get going. With 4.4 being released now, does it make sense to do a config video around a modern build, rather than reference the library of previous videos? I could see that saving loads of time and frustration as I convince other friends to explore FPV.

The gps accuracy will be improved in 4.5 and….. the improvements to level mode will help a lot with how close she gets to hole point too.. but all for 4.5

Thanks for all you do JB. Can' bind. Just starting to watch this video but hope to see an option to see what version of elrs is currently on Mobula6 with SPI rx. Watch so many of your videos and others but unless you flash it then you get what's in the flash you choose. Help! Newbee to quads. Bataflight 10.8.0 Zorro elrs 3.0.0 TX16s 3.1.2. I could set my binding phrase using CLI WAHOO! I have it bound. Had to flash my Radiomaster ZORRO with 2.5.1 and it bound right away. Once comfortable with this I will follow JB video SPI-based ExpressLRS. Watch it already but it will play again soon.

I've got a question. When enabling GPS rescue the drone flies wobbly towards the homepoint (not a problem) and when setting in for the landing it falls out of the air about 5m above ground. advice needed! :) I have about 16 sats during the flight. Oh and also when enabling GPS Rescue within certain amount of meters, the drone just disarms mid air. Any idea's? Thanks!

JB I've updated the 4.4 version and I've followed your instruction RE the safe configuration file etc. But for some reason my vista OSD is not showing up anymore.... any ideas I know it's not a loose cable as it was working before on the old version. I'm using tmotor f7 stack. I selected the HD on the OSD also.

Beta flight is allowing one to compile their own core program. This is huge. This cut down core runs faster and cleaner as well.

Great! Already on 2 of my quads. Love it. Still needs the CLI command - set osd_displayport_device = MSP - for the OSD HD to work, and remember to disconnect the GPS before flashing. -

The reason some DJI drones do much better return to home is that some of them use the camera sensors on the bottom for “precision landing”. It requires that you take off straight up for a minimum distance. I’ve tested this out on a Mavic 2 and it was off when it initially started and then corrected as it came down. It’s able to hit a landing pad consistently. This is not something we should ever expect on our DIY drones. Even iNav does not do this. I do think that if you tried a second time, it would have been a little more accurate as the GPS drift reduces a little once the GPS has been running longer and this seems to persist when restarting in the same location one GPS fix is established.

@@RubyS.1 You might be OK with them on a larger build but the problem is that you then have to choose software that is not optimized for freestyle. I’m hoping that the new build on flash system may open up the possibility of having features like this if the flight controller has enough memory.

@@TechnicallyTom matek makes an optical flow that works with inav. There's not a lot of info on it for inav but it will do position hold and range sensing i think it's a modifier to position hold Not sure how well it works with inav probably worth checking out. I used it on an ardupilot vtol plane because it's really small seems to work ok.

What I don't get with the gps return home function is that the osd was showing that the flight controller KNEW it was 3m off the home point. I wonder why it didn't try to get closer. I could see it being that far off, but I don't get it being that far off when it knew it.

Ok pretty good at landing actually better then he did in the video but taking off is always kinda sketchy. Is there like a way to take off better or?.... when I try to take off its like the drone is feeling around for balance and eventually gets its balance off the ground. Should it be like that kr should I be able to take off up quickly. Mot sure if I'm doing something wrong. Is there a mode that helps.

Ground effect is always a problem when taking off and landing... best thing to do is to just punch up to around 1metre... don't even think about a gentle take-off else you'll be wobbling all over the place. ANGLE mode is useful for take-off and landing if jou don't want to think much about it/focus more on just through position rather than attitude of the quad

Thank You for all the amazing work You do! I've flashed 4.4 version on my experimental fc Skystars F722-hd Pro V2. The hd osd that I've tried looks like it's bigger than the screen intself and the center point of the osd displays at the right while left side is ok. All the right side of it is completely out of the screen. I'm using caddx vista.

Also using a vista, have the same issue. If I select HD the elements no longer align to a 16:9 preview despite the camera being 16:9. I'm presuming this only works for those using a 4:3 and want to move the elements over into the black bands either side within the goggles.

Will the piecemeal cloud builds reduce CPU loads on the flight controllers? I can't use RPM filtering on the Hummingbird V2 because the it overloads the CPU to the point that the OSD elements become unreliable (analog VTX setup).

I'm using speedybee f7 V3 Flight Controller Stack with AKK RACE RANGER 1000mW VTX and Phoenix 2 Runcam, and when I check HD it makes the resolution way better and the words smaller,all around better resolution. Maybe I lucked out but just wanted to put that out there

I updated my speedybee f405 fc to the new 4.4 from 4.3.1 and my receiver signal is no longer found. Spektrum serial srxl2. I know, last of the 10 people using spek. Waiting on my new taranis. I went through and reconfigured everything, set the correct uart to serial, set the rec tab up with the spektrum info, and nothing. Spent several hours checking everything before I gave up and reflashed to 4.3.1. All rec signals returned. Any ideas??

Pay attention with the newest configurator (10.9 RC4) , the motors tab is not working, if you need to reorder motors or test stuff like directions use the confiturator 10.9 RC3 to get it working.

@@JonnyFPV don't think of it as risky... think of it as BUG FIXED.. with possible new bugs, the reason RC4 even is a thing is that RC3 had it's bugs fixed... but..new ones introduced ... nightly is mostly always the best choice. EDIT: seems "Fix motor testing (#3228)" was fixed 3 days ago..and various other fixs since, nightly ma dude... nightly! RC4 is like 5days old

I learned a lot today. Almost messed up a lot today too. I wanted to upgrade to 4.4 from 4.3 and... do so while watching your 4.1 video. Well after flashing 4.4 I realized I couldn't safely upload my 4.3 config file in the CLI. That was about the time I was watching this 4.4 video. So... I re-flashed 4.3, uploaded the 4.3 config in the CLI, looked it over in betaflight and test flew my Nazgul Evoque F5D. Flew perfect. Its been a very interesting day here.

If you are new pilot I highly recommend that BetaFlight playlist by Bardwell. There’s a lot to go through but its worth it if you’re getting into FPV.

9:25 - why doesn't the BetaFlight Configurator doesn't tell me in the upper left for which BTFL version it is ? 10.7 = 4.2 10.8 = 4.3 10.9 = 4.4

10.x is the configurator version. 4.x is the firmware version on the FC. Configurators are backwards compatible with older FC firmware. So configurator 10.9 can be used with firmware 4.4, 4.3, etc. If you plug in a FC, you will see the firmware version on the FC in the upper left.

Weirdly the migrator mucked up various settings gyro/accel/gps etc were all gone . After reflashing RC4 I just loaded the previous 4.3 configs and no errors occurred. Goku F405 Nano .

I really like the idea of not having all of those extra protocols and presets. I just think maybe they are going about it the wrong way. Instead of choosing the protocols and the other presets while flashing the firmware to the flight controller via the FW flasher. There should be something other than save and reboot to reflash the FC. Like a Flash and reboot option while you are configuring the system. In my mind it would simply flash the current firmware you have installed, minus your selections on the flight controller. I don't know how viable this is as I have no experience in programming so I'm sorry if I sound ignorant. I simply hope to inspire someone who has the know how to make this process a little more intuitive.

Rc4 there a bug in the motor re-order settings, the save button doesn't work. So don't have your esc upside down, sideways etc.

Hello Josue, I updated to 4.4 and my fc is face up. I have tried to put the orientation correctly and I can't get it. Any idea why this happens? It has never happened to me when updating the fc. My fc is a f7 HAKRCF7

I updated my Flywoo Explorer which has a FLYWOOF405 board. It updated, but now I have no gyro. I tried to downgrade back to 4.3.0 which is what it had, but it keeps tell me to load firmware after I say flash. I tried loading from online and from the local file and it always tells me to load after I've hit flash. I've tried DFU and the usual stuff and no joy. Can somebody tell what I need to do to get the 4.4 gyro working or the trick to downgrading?

My betaflight problem solved did not select gps out of options when loading 4.4 I also checked remaining options so that all my functions work .

My 11-year-old built a 5" FPV which flew perfectly for 2 days. When he upgraded the betaflight firmware to 4.4 the drone on initial take-off go to full power on its own and then shut down at appx 4 feet. We erased 4.4 and re-installed 4.3 however the same issue persists. None of our troubleshooting has resolved the issue please give your thoughts. Thank you

If the quad suddenly pops up in the air and then disarms when you arm, it is almost always one of these things. 1. Clockwise prop installed on counter-clockwise spinning motor or vice versa. Double check the motor direction is as expected and then double check that the correct prop is on each motor. 2. Flight controller not facing forward. Go to the Setup tab in the configurator. Tilt the quadcopter on all axes (pitch, roll, yaw) with your hands. The 3D model in the configurator should move the same as you move it with your hand. If it does not, use the Board Alignment parameters in the Configuration tab to fix it. Do not use the "GYRO/ACCEL" parameter. Use the "Roll Degrees", "Pitch Degrees", and "Yaw Degrees" parameters. 3. Motors not wired correctly. TAKE OFF YOUR PROPS. Plug in a battery. Go to the Motors tab. Turn on the "props are off" slider in the lower-right. Raise the individual sliders (1, 2, 3, and 4) one at a time, just enough that the motor begins spinning. The motor positions (1, 2, 3, and 4) should match the graphic in the upper left. If they do not, then either move the signal wires so that they are correct or use resource reassignment to virtually "move" the motors. 4. Motor spinning wrong direction. Do the same as step 3 but compare the motor direction to the arrows on the graphic in the upper left. If a motor is spinning the wrong direction, either reverse it using BLHeli (or whatever ESC software you are using) or swap any two motor wires with each other, which will reverse the direction. 5. If you have enabled the "motor direction is reversed" parameter in the Configuration tab, then you must go into blheli and reverse the motors, or swap the motor wires to reverse the motors. The "motor direction is reversed" option TELLS betaflight THAT you reversed the motors. It does not reverse the motors. This is a special case of #4 where the motors are spinning the wrong direction.

how does gps rescue work if you lose video feed but instinctively try to keep using your radio to keep your quad up (throttling, pitching in the right direction, etc). does that cancel the rth? or can you program a switch to cancel that?

it only activate when you lost RC signal, aka failsafe, OR you flip a Aux switch to manually active it (like you lose video and cannot get it back after a few seconds, then you flip the switch)

Hey JB, I had 2 CLI commands needed using the old BF. On BF 4.4, I had to still put the original CLI string. The port one wouldnt work, and gave an error in BF 4.4. But the first one in the manual still went in, and once I did it the OSD started working. Not sure if something else was going on, but that was my experience.

yeah "displayport_msp_serial" is GONE from 4.4 (new command set a serial via PORTS tab) only NEEDED CLI is "set osd_displayport_device = MSP"

@@InfinityDrones I don't use presets..., thought that was and is a complete waste of time... anyhoo as of RC-5 BF-config will now apply the two needed settings (set osd_displayport_device = MSP & set vcd_video_system = HD) when MSP+Displayport is selected in the Ports tab... and all was right with the world

That's incorrect. It supports the full Betaflight osd.

Surprised the BF devs haven't made a converter for previous version of BF dumps and diffs. They know the changes in values across the board, and if they made a converter that'll take your previous dump config and convert its values the the new end of the changes to scale it nearly 1 to 1 would be revolutionary. That dump config site imo is hard to know if I'm even doing it right because the file it spits out at me doesn't seem to take out the stuff I'm "suppose" to. It's a big brain idea that alot of other programs do when updating softwares. T9 better understand we would tweak other rate types to closely match bf rates or when feed forwards was being changed or introduced we did out own scaling and tweaking to match what we had before or felt before.

So, Betaflight doesn't do param conversion when you upgrade? It just resets your entire config? Sounds painful. I'm used to ArduPilot - it automatically does param conversion within the flight controller when you upgrade. 😎

@@Vousie they give you defaults each upgrade that work across the board for all or most crafts. Leaving you to further optimize them if you choose to go for the enth degree

@@Vousie lols not yet. It’s a feature we will add to our cloud system.. auto migration… also in 4.5 the configurator will read the flight controller and not let you have the options that you didn’t build into your firmware

Hi. Since updating my quads to the new betaflight I cannot seem to receive GPS telemetry on my edgetx radio, when I discover new sensors it picks up everything except anything to do with GPS telemetry, I have a wing on inav and this picks up GPS telemetry, I'm using crossfire on all models. Any advice welcome.

Assuming you used the "cloud build" feature, be sure you enabled GPS.
