Hi Eric, I have the same Titanium Pots as you and use a Primus Whisper Light International Stove. My solution to "not" burn foods is a 5" x 5" x 1/4 Aluminum plate that sits on top of the stove. The Aluminum helps distribute the heat and avoid "hot spots", it weighs 269 grams-hope this helps!

small leaks are easy to find. Take a spray bottle with soapy water. inflate the mat, then spray it down with the soapy water, it will bubble where the leak is.. draw a circle around the hole with a marker so you know where to patch it.

You asked about our own upgrades. One of mine is larger, more comfortable pedals. I really feel the difference. The load is much less concentrated. They are still light weight. (You have to be careful of your shins. Those spikes or cleats on the pedals can be painful. I have a nice scar on my left shin from them. I've considered shin guards, but decided to be more careful instead.) A trekking pole as a kickstand. The top fits under the saddle. A velcro strap goes around the front brake lever to prevent rolling. I keep it there so it is handy. A stem bag. Two cylindrical bags that are fitted to the handlebars. LAPG has some good ones, at good prices, if you choose well. They can hold water bottles or other things, plus they have pockets for miscellaneous small items like snacks and sunglasses. A good frame bag. Cages that hold large water bottles or small stuffsacks. Super-stable rear rack (Tubus Locc).

Ha yes, the coupons where very welcome! They have long since dried up and I am still buying stuff, lot's of bike tool/maintenance products 😉 Thanks & All the Best
@alexmorgan34353 жыл бұрын
For me it is the bike. Having a bike that is as durable and low maintenance as possible which means getting away from high maintenance exposed derailleur gears. The piece of mind that you can ride further and for longer without your bike seizing up or needing regular essential maintenance before you can even start the day's ride or you are stuck some where trying to fix it. This means having a much better spec bicycle and more cost. This is all I will say as inevitably the haters will start hating.

The handles on titanium pots get really hot- I wrapped butcher’s string around mine and then coated that with hi temp silicon instant gasket. Now I can pick them up without burning ….and swearing…. My S2S etherlite developed 6 holes in a few weeks- and I hadn’t even used it outside! They refunded as it was within warranty . Replaced with a thermarest - not as lofty, but better R value and more robust. Love your content - thank you for all the effort- much appreciated ! ❤️🚴♀️🚵♂️⛺️💙

Titanium is not really fit for regular cooking, it's more for heating water or soups as the properties of the material creates hotspots on the cooking surface. Looks into aluminum pans with a stainless steel coating on the inside if you want something to do actual cooking on (like the Trangia Doussal)

I like the way you said that gear isn't everything-so true--your mindset is important--absolutely!--on the flat 4 kgs lighter isn't going to change much(except for the cost) in the case of speed/distance(maybe a few minutes slower if heavier) but if you have elevation/bike lifting/rough terrain/bad weather--lighter will save you a lot of energy and make you feel less drained at the end of the day---great video--thanks--looking forward to your next adventure.

On kit I will always try to buy items with as long a warranty as possible that is fairly easy to use should you need to. Buying from Decathlon is a very good idea as not only is most of their stuff very good and very reasonable priced but they have stores all over the world and for the most part they are the same with slight variations in stock but they all have a good warranty and returns and will try to help you as much as they can if you have a problem with any of their items. I will only use Therm-a-rest sleeping mats because of their life time world wide warranty for the original purchaser of their items. Sea to Summit only has 3 years warranty iirc on it's products.
@marksadventures38893 жыл бұрын
Wow, that's quite a lot 4.3kg! I to am cutting down one kit but another just went up, however it got old school too. I go back to my old days, 58 pattern PLCE webbing 95 issue. It's more for long trips where i park up the bike and take short walks for a day or two, but the gear in the webbing is 47% lighter. Coming up soon will be how i make my own food for the trail and dehydrate it and then freeze it. By freeze drying everything last much longer. I got some MRE's and made up my own menus which gave me the idea to make my own. (even veggie burgers for this omnivore). My new job and smaller apartment make me think differently. I think another bike is due, and make the current one electric assist to help my old but get up the hills easier. Take care you two, stay safe.

Less is more. Re cooking, try a rounded piece of metal under to pot, so the flame transfers through the metal to the pot instead of directly hitting the pot. Idealy those pots would have a double bottom and cooking on them would be a joy.

Really useful video. Thanks. Outstanding, as always. Just want to mention one thing: my understanding around using the air sack to inflate a sleeping pad is to NOT use your breath (as shown in this video), as that will then blow moisture into the pad, thereby decreasing insulation value. Is this correct? Like the two of you, I am also rethinking for a lighter set-up for my next travels, after riding heavy loads over many months at a time. Mobility, flexibility, versatility, etc. in order to be able to access much greater spectrum of locations.
@WheelstoWander3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! This is the way they tell you to inflate. Actually what is happening is that when you blow you create a vortex sucking in extra air (Bernoulli effect) I believe the mattress is treated for humid air on the inside so it shouldn't be a problem. Greatly put, opening up the world to more possibilities!! All the best with that :) Tailwinds

The body warmers loose their properties after a short time when you sweat. They are also difficult to wash and fluff up again if they are down filled. I will never buy down clothing again.

@@WheelstoWander I tried jogging and cycling in mine and they quickly deteriorated. I would go for a warm synthetic filling although it will be a bit more bulky but it will wash, dry and keep it's warmth properties better.
@alexmorgan34353 жыл бұрын
Sweeping generalisations like yours because you wear the wrong clothing for the situation are not helpful for others. Down products are not the right clothing to wear if you are exerting yourself generating a lot of heat and moisture that gets trapped in the down or any other filling. You need to be wearing several high quality wicking layers to trap heat but which allow your moisture out with maybe a very breathable membrane or windproof layer on top to stop windchill. I love my Patagonia down gilet. It has served me well over many years and is still going strong. Poor clothing choices in extreme environments can mean the difference between survival or perishing.
@borocavalier3 жыл бұрын
@@alexmorgan3435 That is exactly what I was saying Alex. Cycling hard for many hours and days on end means heating up and sweating. Of course it does save on weight which is why the author is trying it out.
@alexmorgan34353 жыл бұрын
@@borocavalier But the point is wearing this type of insulated clothing whether down or anything else whilst exercising energetically is the WRONG type of garment to wear. Down or other filling is not able to wick moisture from your skin. Wearing a wicking base layer or two with a windproof outer shell would be much better. Down and other similar insulating layers come into their own to keep you warm when you are not moving so much such as in camp or as a last resort in extremely low temperatures and I mean cold brrrrrrr .............
