This is truly a very hard choice and the same dilemma I was in - Roadmaster or Springfield? When it was all said and done, I wound-up buying two bikes. First was a 2018 Indian Roadmaster which is an amazingly smooth ride like a Cadillac on two wheels and full of technology. It is by far, the best bike I have ever owned and has been amazing on long distance rides up through the smokie mountains and down to Florida. The navigation is spot-on. But I still had a nostalgia itch to scratch but went with Harley Road King instead of an Indian only because we got such a good deal on it. I'm now interested in finding an Indian Chief Vintage. They no longer make them, but I have my eye on a two-tone blue and cream 2019 that looks amazing. Congrats on your purchase - it's a beautiful motorcycle!

That's the exact same bike that I have, color and all, which I find surprising that the color, Thunder black-Dirt track tan, carried over from 2021 to 2022. To each their own, but I've ridden for many hours with that seat and it's just fine. A backrest helps with long rides. Awesome deal!
@RamblinManMoto4 ай бұрын
Cool that you have the same bike. I wanted a different color to be honest but I thought the deal on this one was too good to pass up. Yep, definitely find seats are a personal choice. I gave this one a go but ended up putting an Ultimate seat on it. I'm mostly pleased with that change though I feel like I'm sitting a little more taller and forward than stock. Not by much but enough for me to notice.

Very nice bike. I have a 2019 Indian Springfield. I Like the bike. I have the stock windshield and it is too tall however, it is no problem to see through at night. Regarding your comment about the red display on the speedometer, I am one of the people who think it is difficult to see at night. You probably have a post about your super chief, I am going to go look for it, because I am very curious about that bike. Best wishes

Good call on the arrow look on the tank/bags! That never occurred to me. Your bike looks just like my riding buddies bike. I changed to Reinhart 4.5 slip ons and they have a great tone. BUT, they are loud. And for longer distances, I’m like you, kinda like quieter pipes. Enjoyed the video. I look forward to seeing your upgrades (btw, I highly recommend Harley Davidson Heated Gear)
@RamblinManMoto5 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching and commenting. I may be blowing some on those arrows but I see 'em. Ha! Interesting you thought Reinhart's are loud. I read another forum where a guy ranked them sort of 3rd place and quieter for his tastes. Thanks for the tip on the Harley gear. Never looked them up for that but will check them out.

I always try to compress the springs on a vehicle when strapping them down. Cars and bikes. The trailer or tow viehicle has its own suspension. Having cargo that moves around will upset that suspension
@RamblinManMoto6 ай бұрын
Thank for the note. I have never strapped a vehicle down but I've towed the bikes a few times. I have had others tell me they strap down the suspension as well, but then I had a few others tell me that it's not good for the suspension to be locked in position like that. Clear majority of the feedback I've read on sites agree to compress. FWIW, here is the wheel dock video they put out specifically showing it not compressed. kzbin.info/www/bejne/eZzCoKiambhqgKc

Yah, if you look around you'll find tons of used bikes being sold by baby boomers who find they've become too old to safely ride. There's a bit of a glut in some markets, where used bike prices are quite depressed. In 2020 I bought a 2002 BMW R-1150-RS with only 23,000-km on it. Barely broken in! Had lots of options too, including ABS, Factory Side-Cases, Cruise Control, and over-sized height-adjustable windscreen (along with original which I refer). This model is a true 'Sport-Tourer', with a modest 3/4 fairing, high output motor, and sport suspension that corners on rails at high speeds. It's ideal for confident back-road blasting, yet the bike is super comfy for all-day trips. It is quite satisfying to have such a high quality and competent bike for road trips anywhere. I've almost doubled the miles on the bike, and I don't ride as much as I used to.

Sold my 2017 Springfield when I purchased my 2019 Roadmaster. Well my wife got her convertible last year so I’m thinking bout downsizing to a lighter Springfield!
@user-sm9yc5sf9t5 ай бұрын
For great seat comfort during long trips on my 2017 Springfield, I've added a sheepskin butt pad from Alaska Leathers. In addition to adding a layer of padding, it insulated against heat as well as against cold. Be sure to measure your seat in order to get the correct one. And remove the pad when it rains.

I subscribed one minute ago. I bought the crimson and maroon 2021 brand new. I’m 72. 12,000 K’s in two riding seasons, which on the Canadian prairies means May thru October, if you’re lucky. New LED headlight and driving lights going in this winter. Replaced the mo-ped toot-toot with a Denali Sound Bomb. A few other minor mods. Heated grips came with it. Looking forward to your Indian content. Ride safe!
@RamblinManMoto6 ай бұрын
Thanks for subscribing! I love the crimson/maroon and honestly would have preferred anything other than a black or black based color. I thought this two tone looked good and was a pretty good deal used so I hopped on it. My Super Chief is maroon. Great color for these bikes. Interesting your 2021 came with heated grips. I don't think mine, a 2022, did.

On long trips and above 55 mph, I ride my 2017 Springfield with the windshield in place, but I've completely eliminated the buffeting by adding Indian's fork mounted wind deflectors. Well worth their cost!

Nice bike.. but seems your Chief and the Springfield have enough similarities that I'm not sure I'd keep both. But picking between the two seems to difficult. The Springfield is probably a better all-around bike.. but the Chief has better technology. And the 116 is definitely nice over the 111. Anyway.. better you than me.. lol.
@RamblinManMoto6 ай бұрын
Indeed, I may end up getting rid of the Super Chief. I've put so much work into it I almost hate to sell it, and I am a tech junkie. I really want those locking bags on the Springfield especially as I often have my drone with me along with other $$ stuff that may be in the bags. I also don't have my Chief set up as a passenger bike, just me. That's one of the driving things as well. We'll see after I get more miles on the Springfield.
@randomstuffwithjoe6 ай бұрын
@@RamblinManMoto Good luck with it. The Springfield is a nice bike. I test rode a super chief.. it felt too small to me. I ended up with a Chieftain Dark Horse. It took me months to decide between the Chieftain and the Challenger/Pursuit. In the end.. the Icon color on the Chieftain pushed my decision.. and I have enjoyed it a lot.

Were you wondering why I'm "not" using the windshield? I didn't have the windshield on in this video. I don't have it on this bike because it is too tall and too dark for my liking. I do use it occasionally on my Super Chief mainly in colder weather. I go back and forth on it but generally prefer the wind/open road feeling.

@RamblinManMoto4 ай бұрын
I purchased this bike used and the bag was on it from the previous owner. That is the Indian brand bag. In the US at least, on the Indian web-site, it is called: Spirit Lake Rack Bag, Black. If you search on the site that should come up. May also find possibly cheaper on E-bay (sometimes I get lucky and sometimes not). I really like this bag though there are complaints that it is hard to connect with the Velcro straps. I have not removed it but I could see re-attaching it may be odd.

He also had the sissy bar/rear luggage rack/and the bag you sent on the back, along with two Indian brand bags inside each saddlebag, included in the sale. Mine was $17,300 before taxes and such.

Not sure I'm an expert on the topic but I'd have to say that based on my experience Indian's are pretty reliable and doing right by me. I have read on forums that the earlier models had some issues but that they have worked out the kinks. As I looked for used bikes, I drew a line in the sand around 2017 to 2018 and would not tend to go older. Not sure the size you have in mind but the Scouts and Chiefs I think are solid.
