I think people forget about this… you definitely get better power consumption in the city with battery power, but you use engine power to recharge via braking. Not to mention eventually you need to replace electric components so there is an additional cost for maintenance too. Overall though, excellent investment

Hello Johan. I would like to clarify the consumption assumptions in your videos. Indeed, at timeframe 5:52, you show a pic of the driving information claiming mix cons. is 7.3L+ 6kWh. Actually if we want to get the real fuel consumption, we need to separate the electric kms from the petrol ones. Total kms in your test is 155.7kms and electrinc only is 56kms. Therefore the global cons. is 7.3L/100 for a total of 155 = 11.3L of fuel. In reality this fuel was used to drive only 99.7kms (155.7-56) giving an avg of 11.3L/100km. I don't know why BMW show these stat like this.
@badpitu Жыл бұрын
I don't understand why people care so much about fuel efficiency in here. You buy a BMW because you love driving a BMW. Who cares that the Honda CRV is more efficient, it will never drive as good as a BMW.

Amazing video. I'm looking at whether I should get an IX3 or an X3 hybrid and have been looking at the cost of electricity tariffs in the UK vs the range anxiety for when you run out of charge and lack the infrastructure. One thing I'm not clear about with the X3 hybrid, which you've touched on here when in mixed mode; 155 km (100 miles-ish) and you're getting 6kWH and 7.3l/100km (38 mpg). Does it ever get better than this figure? I can see the appeal for short journeys of less than 30km (20 miles), but if you go beyond that, you'll be having a fuel consumption which is just as good/poor as an X3 30d. Would I be better off getting the IX3? My company car tax will be much less on the IX3, but I'll lose the AWD which I prefer.
@ACD542 жыл бұрын
Yes, a very informative video. I've just ordered a X5 45e hybrid - more car than I need, but by the time you've taking into account P11D values and the low depreciation it comes out at roughly the same cost over 3-4 years as the X3, and seems a better car, so why not? Not looking forward to the petrol consumption on long trips, though.

Thank you for the very useful information. Interesting, is it possible to make a conclusion that average of fuel consumption meets declaration of BMW dealer - 2.0 ltr./100 km?
@JohanDeHaes2 жыл бұрын
I don't know how they calculate these averages. Say in ideal circumstances (summer) you drive 100 km and you 55 km electric range and then you drive 45 km on petrol. I consumed about 7,3l, so 0,073 l/km, so on driving that 45 km with the petrol engine it's 3,28 l. I don't know how you would get that number significantly down.
@azur41572 жыл бұрын
Hi Johan,I like your videos. So, do you mean that if in 45 km you consumed 7,3L of petrol, in 100 km only with the petrol engine will consume 16.2L?? I am looking to buy this car, but I am afraid it consumes a lot of petrol. Now I have an X2 with an average of 7,6L/100km. Do you think X3 30e will consume much more? Thank you very much
@JohanDeHaes2 жыл бұрын
@@azur4157 For some reason, i don't get notified by youtube when people reply on my comment. No, in the other comment, that was just a theoretical example. I consumed on average 7,3 liter per 100 km in the video kzbin.info/www/bejne/eXS3hpSDZah1ndU. The other comment was about a theoretical situation where BMW says it consumes 2l/100 km. How do you get to “that super low” number? I don’t know how they calculate those numbers. So the WLTP electric range is 50 km. I tested a lot of hybrids and in the summer they do a bit more than the WLTP, so I guess with this car you will get probably 55 km of electric range in the summer. So how much would you consume in theory on the other 45 km with the petrol engine of the 100 km in total? So I used my number of 7,3 liter and I recalculated that to how much it is for driving 45 km (so 7,3/100 km * 45 km = 3,285l). So in theory if you drive 100 km, of which in best case you drive 55 km electric (in the summer, not in the winter) and then 45 km with petrol engine, then you would have consumed 3,285 liters net. So I don’t know how to get to 2 liters per 100 km or how they calculate that.

@ebt_be Жыл бұрын
Hello, 1/ I guess range is calculated based on driving style. This is why it can change while drivining. As per video, don't expect an electric consumption below 20Wh/100km. More likely 23-27 Wh/100km giving you an estimated realistic (wintertime) of 42km. 2/ nope, it's is not giving you charging indicator as much as I know

@@JohanDeHaes thanks so much for this explanation. I have indeed made an estimation by following this video where the guy shows how the car optimizes the usage of Petrol and Battery in a street path which was a mix of the city centre and highway (kzbin.info/www/bejne/ZmbSqIyar5ung6s). The guy drives Fort Collins to Denver Colorado back and forth which is about 150 Miles (240 Km). At the moment of his return, I can see the tank being used for half (I assume 25 Litre were used given the 50 L capacity of this car but let's say he used 20 Litre to stay not too restrictive). At the same time, the car has used all the energy from the battery. This results in 240 Km using ~20 Litre of Benzin and all the battery capacity which results in approx. 8 litres x 100 Km (the 20 Litre consumed for the 240 Km). I really cannot find or reason for the 2.2L/100 Km they claim. It makes sense to me your calculus though but at which level was the battery when you came back? Were the 7.3 Litre / 100 Km with the full battery charged at your return? Thanks for any reply and sorry for the long post.

ok so, whats the reason behind charging while driving? you only wasting energy. you put the energy out of the engine in the batteries with energy loss, then driving on battery with energy loss just to charge again with the engine. why use the batterie dirve at all? makes absolutely no sense exept u really have a charging station at home and only use the battery, but then u have a weak car that cant drive shit. and then again, at least where i live, electricty is more expensive as gas, so u dont even save anything.
@JohanDeHaes Жыл бұрын
I think it’s because of no emission zones where you can’t enter driving using combustion engine. So if you don’t have enough charge to get to your destination in no emission zone you can charge it while driving before you enter no emission zone
@PrinzessinDampfhammer Жыл бұрын

It’s a good idea… where I live there are very few chargers. If you take a long trip it can add 2-3 hours per day if you have an EV. Most people aren’t going to take an extra day or so to travel to their destination in order to save fuel. Time is more valuable. Hybrid makes sense… especially HEV, which is why the M40 or M430 are so popular. You get a great engine and great fuel economy. I think PHEV and HEV are more affordable now and they make a lot of sense. EV doesn’t and especially if you don’t have a level 2 charger installed in your house. If you’re in a building or in a rural community you really need to think of the practicality of the purchase
