A nice water tube boiler. I worked as a stationary engineer/boiler operator from the late 1970's on and off until 2015 (in refineries, upgraders and a polypropylene manufacturing plant). I have been responsible for boilers as large as multiple CE 1550 psi super-heated to 900 deg C, producing 300,000 lbs of steam per hour to a small packaged boiler running about 15 psi. I have always loved steam trains as I grew up on a farm and in the late 1950's I would go outside the house (as a small child) to see the steam train pass our farm taking mostly grains, etc. to a large river to be loaded onto boats (about 30 miles away) to ship to markets, I had a model steam engine as a child and still have it today. Outside places like Cedar Point in Ohio the last steam train I was on was in the summer of 1974 when there was a special run on the main line near Port Huron MI (Sarnia Ontario Canada). It is awesome to see the restoration of such a historical and beautiful machine! Great job folks.

The day this locomotive is all back together and passing of all boiler and steam tests, I would love to see the 2100 paired with 2102. That would be a splendid sight to see two former Reading T1s going through the mountains of the Reading & Northern. Keep up the great work on a piece of our railroading heritage.

Incredible what these guys are doing and the amount of work it takes to restore just one of these locomotives. To think RDG had 30 of them at one time! I'm happy to have been able to donate 2 of those boiler tubes.

Retired Boilermaker, I rolled a few tubes and nothing works better than Crisco, tho its smells like you're frying chicken when you start welding.

Nice does that mean it will be ready with the American freedom train and 2102 for the 250th anniversary?

We still need to raise $170,000 to complete the restoration for this to happen. Please consider donating to complete the restoration at www.americansteamrailroad.org/donate/

I know this probably won't happen, but it would be neat if the tenders of 2100 and 2101 could go back to their original owners.
@AmericanSteamRailroad Жыл бұрын
Hello, as the 2101's fire damaged tender was fully restored for operation in the late 1980's, and the 2100's tender was only cosmetically restored, it would be costly to ASR for the tenders to be changed back, in addition to the cost to transport them. Another thing to consider is the fact that tenders were swapped between locomotives at times of maintenance or extensive repairs, so it is possible that neither of these tenders are original to either locomotive. Please consider donating to complete the restoration at www.americansteamrailroad.org/donate/

@@AmericanSteamRailroad Ah, I actually didn't know that much about the logistics behind the swap. Thanks for the context.

So will 2100 have a test fire this year?
@AmericanSteamRailroad Жыл бұрын
We should be able to do a hydrostatic test within the next 60 days, however we still need to raise $45,000 to complete the oil firing system before a fire up can occur. Please consider donating to complete the restoration at www.americansteamrailroad.org/donate/

what whistle will 2100 have after its restoration
@AmericanSteamRailroad Жыл бұрын
The beginning of the video is the exact whistle the 2100/A250 will be using, using member Grayson Littleton's 12 ton steam tractor for the steam. It is a brand new, all brass exact reproduction of a Reading 6 chime, made by Rizzoli Locomotive Works. Please consider donating to complete the restoration at www.americansteamrailroad.org/donate/
