Brewdog don't hide the fact they want to take on Guinness - they acknowledge outside of Ireland there's really very little competition. Might see the odd place with Murphy's so that's what they want to fill. Same with their lager, they even use Heineken in their business updates - they want to outsell them. Ultimately there isn't the money in being solely craft beer, Brewdog have owners (TSG) that require certain levels of growth, if these aren't being met it'll come from the business. They play the whole craft card but really James Watt only cares about selling books.

When the scene was up and coming about 15 years ago, it had heart and was truly about the craft. The scene has sold out and is all about pushing the limits by adding coffee beans, cocoa nibs, peanut butter, berries, bananas, chili peppers, hot sauce, maple syrup, whiskey, candy etc. to the beer, and of course, copious amounts of hops. Plus the gastro pubs and breweries all have a left-leaning/hipster culture built-in. I also see it in much of Guinnesses marketing nowadays. It’s atrocious. If Guinness isn’t careful, they’re going to ruin a brand that’s taken 264 years to establish. They need to quit pandering to everyone in the world and just let people come to Guinness for the same reason they’ve been going to Guinness for 264 years, because it’s tasty and it’s Irish. Just leave well enough alone.

@@renaissanceman9168 don't disagree with anything you've said, the craft beer scene has become too big for its own good and with so many breweries competing for a place in the beer market, they've all started brewing "beers" that are so far removed from what a beer should be that it's hard to see how you can even call it beer (don't get me started on the flavouring adjuncts, the last cherry, coconut, oatmeal stout I had was so bad it went down the drain). But I do think it's worth remembering that craft beer wasn't always like this, and was once about producing great quality beer that was brewed with care and passion, in contrast to bland, cheap and uninspiring macro beer market. There are still breweries achieving this level of craft beer, you just have to look for them as they're probably not the ones vying for your attention through marketing gimmicks and obnoxious flavour combos.

Oh no. The manager will get fired by James T Watt now 😂 He said the wrong things about the glass! It needed a full Cicerone description of it.

Not big in to craft beers and certainly don’t even attempt to drink other stouts other than Guinness although had a few Murphys and Beamish years ago as there was a couple pubs around Manchester UK that sold them and wasn’t too gone on them either
