The new Brezza is built on the same platform as its predecessor and uses the same engine, albeit an updated version. It does, however, have a completely new body shell as well as an all-new interior with lots of new tech and features. We contrast the two and emphasise their differences. While all of the compact SUVs are powered by gasoline engines, the Tata Nexon, Mahindra XUV300, Hyundai Venue, and Kia Sonet are also available with diesel engines. The Brezza has a single 1.5-litre naturally aspirated K15C petrol engine, whereas all of its competitors offer both turbo-petrol and naturally aspirated mills. The engine in the Brezza is available with either a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission. The Brezza has the most expensive petrol-auto variant, priced at Rs 13.80 lakh. In fact, it costs more than the top-of-the-line diesel-automatic variants of the Kia Sonet and Tata Nexon. It is only Rs 12,000 cheaper than the top-end diesel-automatic in the Mahindra XUV300.The Renault Kiger is the most affordable petrol-automatic in the segment, with a starting price of Rs 7.99 lakh. It should be noted that the Kiger's automatic lineup begins with a 1.0-liter naturally aspirated petrol engine mated to an AMT transmission. The non-turbo engine and low-cost AMT transmission could explain the lower starting price. The top-end Mahindra XUV300 with petrol-manual transmission is the most expensive SUV here, costing Rs 12.38 lakh. The top-end manual Vitara Brezza 2022 comes in a close second at Rs 12.30 lakh. The Brezza's starting price has risen by Rs 15,000 over its predecessor to Rs 7.99 lakh, but the top-spec ZXi+ AT variant is more than Rs 2.5 lakh more expensive than the outgoing model. The Brezza ZX+ AT DT costs Rs 13.96 lakh, which is more than the top-end versions of all of its petrol-powered competitors, including the Sonet (Rs 13.19 lakh), the recently updated Venue (Rs 12.57 lakh), the popular Nexon (Rs 12.39 lakh), and even the XUV300 (Rs 13.06 lakh). While the Brezza does have some advantages over its competitors, the main reason for its high price could be the lack of excise duty benefits available to petrol vehicles with engine capacities of 1.2 litres or less. Because the Brezza has a 1.5-litre engine, it does not qualify for these benefits. Even top-tier diesel-automatic Sonet and XUV300 models are less expensive than the top-tier Brezza. The mild-hybrid system and extra battery add to the price.
