I just love this new design where the room across the back stretches right across. Genius. I hope this trend of one kitchen /sitting room doesn't die out. Redrow is my choice if I am indeed to buy new.

Those rooms needed cornicing to the tops of the walls where they meet the ceilings , a small detail but totally changes the feel of quality and finish to rooms

I agree, especially as the house is a heritage style - the original 1940s home its style emulates will have had cornices.

Climate thing. It’s cheaper to heat particular rooms than the whole house. In the winter especially

As the comment above it’s the heating bills. Some gas, some electric or even lpg in some areas. And we pay a lot of money for it. Also we don’t have the land space to always have a utility room. It’s there in the kitchen. So you need doors to shut out noise. Have a look around the UK property web pages. I think the lack of space will shock you
