I do have a word of the year this year - it’s “curiosity”. Because I recently discovered that quote by Alan Watts about replacing fear with curiosity and it fits well with my journey to work through my depression and anxiety. It really resonated with me so I used it for the 2022 word of the year but I have never done this before, as I never saw the need to. Love your journaling and videos so much Jess!

Amazing word. I recently did peer support work training and it was drilled into us- listen with curiosity. Be curious about why people are feeling or reacting the way they are. I think my word might be listen or curiosity as well. :) I hope you seek the help you need if you feel you need to. And just a plug- peer workers can be a great first step into the mental health field. Peer workers have been there and provide a unique understanding. ❤️ will be thinking of you xx

I am picking my bullet journal habit up again after a rather long break, so I decided to go very basic and slowly rebuild a system. My word for 2021 was Light. I focused on shining my own light and living light, unburdened by the weight of to much stuff, soul-crushing worry or expectations. This year my word is Delight, partly as a continuation of the light theme and also as a reminder that simple pleasures often bring the greatest joy.

I follow CGP Grey's concept of a year "Theme". Typical goals don't work with my brain, but a theme is extremely simple to follow. Last year was a year of health for me, and what it meant is that whenever I made a decision, I made it with my health in mind, as well as trying to start more healthy habits

Gorgeous setup! I’m doing a bullet journal for the first time, for 2022. I don’t have a word of the year, but I do have a motto: “Grow in trials & appreciate the calm”. I will be making monthly layouts to also get me through the whole year. I may include daily thoughts after the monthly pages, but a few lines each day, not whole pages. I am also going to include master charts at the back- chores, meal ideas, passwords, etc. I like the idea of tracking weight each month. I may include a start and end weight for the beginning and end of each month.

My word of the year for 2021 was Serenity, and this year it's Confidence. Both have essentially been about working on my Anxiety and long-term health issues, trying to quieten the chaos, feelings of failure and self-doubt, and this year I want to make more space for trusting in myself. I think your collections/everyday dual setup is really interesting. Something Ive toyed with before, but I think I prefer just having one book at a time, and it also gives me a chance to evaluate at points through the year (generally every 4 months for me) whether these collections are still worth keeping or if I want to set them up slightly differently. For example, I have always had a finance/budget spread, but when I was working that spread was focused on increasing savings, and while I am off work long-term sick, it's more on trying to make things stretch while still allowing myself the occasional treat. So having to set those pages up again and again give me space to see what my current focus is and what job the spread is doing for me.

I'm changing a lot of my planning for 2022. I don't feel like I've been very accountable to myself this year. Covid postponed my wedding until August 2021, and work as a teacher has been awful, so I've changed jobs, and I'm studying a degree in psychology in my 'spare time'. I've put so much weight on, and haven't done much for myself and my long-term goals and aspirations, it has been fire-fighting immediate issues. Next year I would like to change that. I'm taking a more long-term view, and a more self-focused view. My weight, anxiety and depression are my focal point, and everything else will radiate from there. Some of these spreads look perfect to help with that. Thanks Jess, you are such an inspiration! x

I'm actually doing some harsh planning this year. I am going back to college, and realized about halfway through my first semester that the "fly by my pants" methods that I used throughout high school weren't going to get me anywhere so I spent the last couple of months watching journalling and planning videos in the hopes that I would find something that stuck out to me and helped. I've set up my first month after some deliberation, so I'm ready for January. I have ADHD so planning ahead and remembering things gets really difficult, and I've heard that a lot of bullet journalling methods help with that, and I'm hoping that it will help me too. I love these set ups you've done! I especially liked the Then and Now page, and might pop that in to my journal in the future. It's very fun, and I think a great way to reflect on everything. This was a wonderful video, thank you!

Just watched your 2023 setup. I think this planning style would suit me well. I use a travelers notebook for my bujo and tend to keep things pretty simple (an insert for my calendar for the year, an insert for my monthly/weekly, one for standard journaling, and a sketchbook insert). I'm starting a new bujo for July 1, 2022. My last one was meant to run July 2021-dec 2021, but it lasted longer. :) I've decided to switch up pretty much all my layouts. I'm not changing WHAT I write down. I'm just building in more structure. I've been using the same monthly and weekly spreads for a year, and when I really looked them over, I noticed there's usually a lot of white space left in certain areas each month, OR, I have something written in an area that I'm either not using, or maki ng larger than it needs to be just to fill the space.

I think it was your annual spreads ideas video that made me wanna change how I plan this year- also will be doing a long term journal and a smaller “everyday” journal. I started making a small custom journal with the intention of selling it but I had a commission come in and didn’t get a chance to finish the custom - so I’ll be using that I think as my daily. It’s smaller than A5 so will be perfect for carrying around everyday. the regular size gets pretty heavy after a month or two! And also fewer pages so it should last me 3 months and then when I get married in April I’ll have a new Mrs. Me journal 😂❤️

Just count your breaths for and minute and don’t think about anything else. Then go on with your day. It’s surprising how just a minute can sometimes give you a reset claim things down.

Ooo a longterm collections journal is such a good idea, and your pages look so lovely! I'm usually a 2-book person, but next year I'm using 9 🤣 To be fair, 1 is a planner, 2 are journals, and the rest are notebooks for specific projects. Very much looking forward to the new year!

My change for the new year, is the way I track my work. Instead of having a big calendar specifying every single day, I've now got a more monthly setup that'll only include my work stuff - it's simpler and easier to see exactly what you're looking for.

@@JashiiCorrin I hope so! I've struggled with the dayly thing, cuz I then forget to fill it in and end up not using the space set up for it. With the monthly tracker, it looks more like a habit/mood tracker and there's less for me to flip through in order to get to what I want to fill in.

Love this change and it answers one of my minor challenges for 2022, which was how to better organize and integrate the daily, weekly, monthly task pages and the collections or tracker pages. Both types of pages serve a very valuable purpose but putting collections in randomly as I think of them amongst task pages felt messy and unplanned to me. The Virgo in me didn't like it. I'm still using one journal for 2022 but I think I may set up my collections as annuals and keep them all in the latter half of the journal. I use a B5 Mnemosyne dot grid so it gets me through the entire year (or did this year.) My word is going to be something like zen, or calm, or serene, or pause. We've had a very intense and rough two years. I'm hoping, and plan to make, 2022 be a calming and healing one. Thank you.

It's from a local Dutch brand: Purpuz. I've used their bullet journals in the past, the dots are actually tiny little hearts in those, so freaking cute. But it's gorgeous (there's a pick on my insta) and is specifically designed for visualizing goals and action steps and what not which this whole set of work sheets before actually getting started so 🤞🏻🤞🏻 it'll work. No that's not the right attitude Kirsten, we're gonna make it work! 🙈

I am completely and absolutely IN LOVE with this set up, not only the look and design of it, but also the concept and spreads you chose. I had already started thinking of doing a yearly collections journal after seeing your video on your notebook choices for 2022, and now that I've seen this video, I want to do it EVEN MORE!! Sadly, I don't think I'll have time to set one up for myself this year (I had already set up several in my 2022 journal, plus I am making a journal for two separate friends that I have barely started drawing yet), but I will absolutely keep it in mind for 2023! My word of the year in 2021 was "adaptability" because I have never finished a year in a bullet journal due to an all-or-nothing mentality (if I ended up skipping a couple of weeks, I would subconsciously give up entirely because what's the point?). Thinking of "adaptability" was my way of simply picking up where I left off and continuing on. My word of the year for 2022 is "determination." I have made SO MUCH progress this year in so many different aspects of my lift, I want the determination to really buckle down and stick to my goals and healthy habits. Having a proper journal and actually USING it will help me immensely.

Thanks Miranda! 😄💜 when I first started bullet journaling, I started in a November too! Having the “start of year” pages in the middle of the journal wasn’t something I super loved (just as they were a little harder to refer back to quickly) but I did appreciate getting to try my hand at bullet journaling and try a bunch of different layouts before the new year started! Even if some of them I neglected, haha 💜
