But if you look at the countries mentioned, they're under the commonwealth except America. There's a massive difference between being colonized by the British and the French. Britain has a way better record of respecting the rights of the indigenous people and coming to agreements and making peace. On the other hand New Caledonia is located a thousand miles away from France and majority non French there.
