I love calving barn videos! And it's cool how you can take pieces from videos and make new ones. I think I've watched every video since I first came across you Cole.

I love to see how you care for your stock. I farmed south of minneapolis minnesota in the 70's. i loved to feed those angus calves and the black baldys as well. a very wise woman wrote, "animals make us human"how we care for the stock we raise says so much about us as human beings.

Now thats a nice facility, I like the in floor heat idea, no frozen manure so should be easier to clean between groups if needed!

Good video. That snow is a giant pain with freezing rain/ice on top! Glad you have shelter for the momma's to calve in. No fun pulling calves in the cold.

Will the crazy things not to into the warm bath on their own? Lucky here we don't have winters here like you all do.
@SonneFarms5 жыл бұрын
If we kept the door open to allow them to go in and out they probably would go in, but when a cow starts calving they may walk outside because they like seclusion when in labor. Also it is possible that the calf, once it can walk, walks outside and gets chilled. So we make sure that they don't have the choice to go outside at night.

Just be careful going alongside the fence like that. I can't imagine how much barbed wire could be sucked in by that snow blower!

We had a 5 ft drift n yard and at the farm we had to get out the case triples and front wheel assist to get someone’s tractor out and that couldn’t even do it by the way CASE is better than John Deere

Pardon the stupid question would it be easier and economical to calve in May or June?
@SonneFarms4 жыл бұрын
We have a lot going on starting April with fertilizing, tillage, planting, and then later on we have to start cutting, raking, and baling. So yes, it would be warmer, but we don't have time to be with the cattle these months since we have other major obligations to take care of.

How do you get your heifers to go into the barn so well?
@SonneFarms5 жыл бұрын
Good question, I think a few factors play in with that. Firstly, they have been put in there for a few days in a row and were getting used to the schedule. Also the water is in the building and it was about the time that they would want a drink. Also they know there is nice bedding and it was cold outside so they wanted to be in there.
