It’ll be interesting how would this hold up against the Epson P900

Let‘s wait for an in-depth review by Keith Cooper. The B&W image demonstrated in this video looks quite faded for the PRO-1000. I would be really surprised if the subtile differences of the inks can be seen in a YT video. After the many years I see the PRO-1100 as a mediocre update. I would have expected a new chassis with roll film holder, smaller ink droplets, less ink usage. We received the old chassis and the old print head.

You're right that it can be very hard to show the subtle differences between prints on video, but in this case our studio lights really seemed to highlight the blacks. It is worth noting that the PRO-1100 now has the same Matt Black ink as the Canon PRO-300, which has a very noticeable difference in black density on fine art papers

So, if I understand correctly, it's not really an update of the printer, but more of the ink? Why not make it available for the PRO-1000?
@PermaJetUKАй бұрын
The key differences are with the ink and the software yes. We're not too sure about the second question!

The specs say max supported paper is 17x22” paper; also much larger 17x129” pano through manual feed. Would this make it possible to print (16x24 with half inch border) on 17x25” paper through manual feed?
@PermaJetUK2 ай бұрын
Yes that should definitely be doable using the panoramic mode. You have to select a 'long form print' media type which then enables you to set your own custom size

I just ordered the Canon PRO-1100 and am waiting for its arrival. Very excited to get into the benefits of this printer and start putting more of my recent work up without the expense of an acrylic. Get used to the image and decide whether it is worth printing acrylic.

Just got one. My ten year old Epson 3880 died. I wouldn't buy this if I had a working 17" printer, especially a pro1000. Also, I don't know if this is normal, but after setup and printing one 8x10 image, the ink levels show only 50% full. Is this typical for a new Canon printer, or am I looking at "starter" cartridges only half full? I asked Canon, but now reply yet.
@PermaJetUK2 ай бұрын
Yes that's normal, when you setup a printer it has to prime the reservoirs so a lot of the ink will be in the tubes
@cesarebeccaria76412 ай бұрын
@@PermaJetUK Thanks. You'd think Canon would included that piece of information in the setup documentation. Otherwise new customers might be disappointed in having a new printer with only half full inks (or about 45% for matte black?) Drawback to new releases: no FAQs.

I love my 3880 (it's outputs). It is light and despite feeling terribly flimsy it is surpringly resisting do to permanent (never clogs despite or because of) set up in my van (and occasional in and out of the van). I only print highest and most carefully edited over 40 to 60 mio pixel files onto mat A1 sized paper. (= No messmerizing (no..called differently..), nor different surfaceglazes.) Canon's, I was told, does refuse to work if it's tankheavy chassis is not perfectly leveled. True ?
@PermaJetUKАй бұрын
@@AR-vf7vg Yes that's true, Canon's printers have a sensor underneath that prevents you from printing if the surface is not level

It seems like you're getting a 46% discount on the Pro 1000, which is a great deal! Should buy it or wait for the Pro 1100 at full price ?

It may be a good idea to shop around and see what deals you can find on the PRO-1000!

Once my Epson 3880 was discontinued, each year I discovered inks harder to find, especially at discounted prices. Early on, I could buy Epson brand ink for $50. Shortly before the printer stopped working this summer, just about the only source of ink was Epson for $89 each (times 9 if you replace them all.)

Either the prints are more or less accurate to what is on screen. Better should only be used in terms of accuracy. No one thinks the 1000 is not accurate. That must mean the 1100 is less accurate, which is not good even if it is more punchy and pleasing. Only question is, does it have a bigger color gamut on identical paper? If Canon doesn't claim that, then print quality isn't improved over the 1000 and the other differences (scratch resistance, print length, etc.) are the only real considerations. I'm sure it is one heck of a printer, but there is some marketing hype around the 1100 that doesn't pass the smell test.
@PermaJetUK2 ай бұрын
Accuracy is definitely the most important factor. With the PRO-1100 Canon have focused on improving the blues in particular, which can be notoriously hard to replicate. On the demo prints we saw there was certainly more detail in the shadow areas but it'll require more testing to comment!

Set up and made one print today. 8x10 colors VERY accurate measured against a Color Munki-calibrated Samsung monitor. I may be happy or pissed, though, depending on why the ink cartridges are half empty after one print.
@Slave-Of-Christ2 ай бұрын
@@cesarebeccaria7641 That's completely normal. The ink is still in the printer, just not in the cartridges themselves; they are indeed about half empty. The print lines to the print head are now full of that ink.

Propaganda pure marketing operation that adds nothing to the previous model Canon Pro 1000; persistent inks more 200 years ? Nonsense and not demonstrable. No paper roll added for continuous printing! However you can print to do it by hand over three meters. Bullshit. Canon mocks us, and I continue to print on my excellent Canon Pro 200. @cesarebeccaria76412 ай бұрын
I wouldn't consider this an upgrade if I had a working Pro1000. However, with a dead Epson 3880, I needed a new 17" printer, and a brand-new model is likely to be current for a while (and have ink available for a while.) Last year or so, ink for my Epson was getting hard to find, and the last Epson cartridge I bought from Amazon was past its expiration date when I got it. That's why I waited a couple months for the Pro-1100.
@Cliff1172 ай бұрын
That doesn’t make sense. How can the ink be brighter?

@@PermaJetUK this reason why I am struggling to choose the Pro-1100. If it only makes the colours slightly brighter, but I can get the same brightness if I just use the right paper and profiles is there really any point? A brand new Pro-1000 is selling at £779.01 Vs splashing £1,099 for the Pro-1100. The only concern I have with going with the Pro-1000 is them discontinuing within the next few years and I am stuck with a high quality printer that can't be maintained or buy replaceable Lucia Pro inks as easily.
@PermaJetUK21 күн бұрын
@@KLamki1 The PRO-1100 does have improved features such as the density of matt blacks and print life, but the PRO-1000 is of course still an excellent printer. Unfortunately no one can predict what the future will be like regarding the inks/maintenance but we expect Canon will continue supporting it for a long while as they have done with previous models
