Hi all, this is the second part of the 'car prices in Turkey'. In this episode we look at daily car prices and how they compare to the prices back home in the UK. As you will see from the pricing, things are not as they seem! A cheap car in Turkey amounts to a supercar in the UK. The reasons why are explained within the video.

Back in 2021 I bought a bog standard (1.0 non-turbo 72 hp, hand-crank rear windows, no parking sensors etc.) 2020 Clio for ₺142500 (~£12390 at 11.5 £/₺ of the time). It currently sells for about ₺675000 (~£19500 at 34.7 £/₺ of today). I mean I was expecting it to hold its value with respect to inflation but I wasn't expecting for it to appreciate in value like this!

I also checked the cars of my immediate family and here's what I found: 2004 Audi A6 1.9TDI Multitronic Bought late 2019 for ₺46000 (~£5900 @ 7.8 ₺/£) Currently goes for about ₺500000 (~£14400 @ 34.7 ₺/£) 2017 Ford Kuga 1.5 EcoBoost Bought brand new in 2017 for ₺132000 (~£29300 @ 4.5 ₺/£) Currently goes for about ₺1200000 (~£34600 @ 34.7 ₺/£)

No mate and thats the issue! Thats generally why people here buy any car on finance. Its a sad state of affairs really, If only it was 4k!! It is 12k that car, well scrap!!

There has to be a workaround. That junk Range Rover for £50k. Is there a way to buy a car from Romania and just use it and drive it out once every two years?

Exactly, its a joke! You can bring in a car for 2 years but, after that, you and the car have to be outside the country for 6 months before you can come back in with the car.

I got two cars last year for 5 grand here in the UK, a corsa and a scenic. The scenic I had to really hunt for as we needed an automatic, and auto MPVs are like hens teeth. The price of cars in Turkey is eye-watering to say the least and will keep working class people who need a car in perpetual debt. Even factoring in the difference in cost of living its still utterly ridiculous.

Completely agree mate, its like a never ending paying debt game. But as I stated in the video, what are the choices? If public transport doesn't go into an area they have to purchase a car and get into that debt. Or the other choice is a taxi, don't get me started with taxis in Turkey.........

@@turbochargedleaf Difficult to see a solution, about 10 years ago i vowed never to get car finance again. I now save money into a credit union so that if I need a car I either have liquid cash I can use or as a member of the credit union I get a lower interest rate. Than would not necessarily work in a low income economy, where car prices are so high, even for cheap banger like the corsa, I'd be looking at paying less than 2 grand for that or I would walk away

Can you buy cars in the UK or elsewhere and sell them in Turkey?

If you have dual nationality but you still have to pay the tax for the car. So essentially, it’s the same price!

Do you get a free bumming with every car? I reckon that piece of crap car was about £4,000. How much is fuel in Turkey? Lastly I seriously can't believe you would use public transport over purchasing a car!

@@jamesclarke5331 haha unfortunately yes more than 4k. That rusty car is 12k sterling!! Crazy money! fuel costs are around half the cost of that in the UK. They drive on the opposite side here!
