New Cat House Tour Gone Wrong

We gave our new cat a house tour but the moment our cat Sparta walked into the room, thing had quickly gone wrong. She became extremely aggressive and hurt Sparta in the final lunge of the house tour section of the video. It was nothing really major but it was enough to cut away and say we can't have that sort of behavior happening around our family. One wrong move and our two year old daughter or 8 month old son (who is currently learning to walk) might have been caught in the middle of it. Many of you have told us that we should give them time to settle but we've given them weeks to get used to each other and right now time is something we just don't have enough of with our family being so young. So we've decided as a family to give Karma Kitty to our friend Ray who has been on standby in case this situation came up. Him and his family are extremely excited to take Karma in. Plus, he doesn't have any other cats. So I'm sure she'll be much happier there. Karma will be very loved and taken care of with him and his family. We’re really sad that things didn’t work out with Karma but a lot of good did come from this. Although Karma won’t be with us, she will never be cold or go hungry again because she’s getting adopted by a very loving family who has exactly what she needs. We also realized that we are indeed ready to have another cat. So once Karma goes home with Ray’s family, we’ll be heading to our local animal shelters to find a new friend. Again, I know many of you may be disappointed with our decision but it really was the best for all of us. Even Karma Kitty. Her story is just beginning as well because Ray is also a fellow KZbinr! 😀

Sad to see her go, but she'll be going to another family that will give her a lot of attention. Torties are just territorial (I have one myself, but she's 12 now and she's dealing with her baby sister) They just don't like the fact that there's another cat. But she will find a good home being a 1-cat-Only. It's going to be hard. If you do get another cat, just do a kitten from a shelter. Especially Rescues and Foster homes! They give out the best information about each cat every time! :) Hopefully, Sparta will have a little brother/sister to play with. He's just a good boy.

I've introduced a lot of cats (Even a few feral), and usually the new cat hides under the bed hissing and growling until they feel comfortable. The worst it's gotten was a swat fest when one resident cat got too close. I've never seen one boldly charge a calm cat. I hate to say it, but I think Karma has learned to attack before she is attacked out in the wild. You're making the right decision. You gave her the best chance possible, and she is convinced other cats are dangerous. Not just, "stay away from me and I'll stay away from you", but "if you stay here one of us is gonna die and it won't be me." That's not okay.

She was exploring and saw Sparta as a threat as he was too close and on the same level as her. My cat was the same when I brought in another cat. My older cat would have killed the younger kitten if pushed comes to shove but didn't (he killed dogs so I know killing a kitten wasn't beyond his means). They become good friends after the youngster knew not to run at my cat (he was more feral then the feral cat I brought in).

We knew it might not work out, but now she will have a family where she is comfortable and not feel the stress of competition with another cat. Don't feel bad, or apologize. I see some people are mildly upset that Corey "didnt give it enough time".. He tried he really REALLY tried.. He said himself he just doesnt have the time to dedicate to helping karma adjust hes got a toddler and a baby taking his time up. Karma can be an AMAZING pet.. Just not for the Williams.. Fate led karma to their door and they were that step to her perfect forever home you cant deny that this family was the absolute perfect place to seek help. They helped her immensely and she returned the favor by opening their hearts and minds to the idea that they might be ready to welcome a new furry family member in the near future

Yeah, my foot get between two excited cats and I took a fang bite that took 4 months to heal (and was really swollen the first month and the only thing I could say in the 2nd month was that it wasn't getting any worse). I was worried that if I sought medical care that the medical staff would rat me out to Social Services and kill my cat in order to check its corpse for rabbies and charge me $3000 for the tests, or whatever these Social Workers do for my own good. But, yeah, domestic cats have a Strong Natural Inclination against taking aggression against a human being (even ferals will feel guilty about it), but when they get excited, accidents definitely do sometimes happen.

But It did happen at night, and while I think I am covered by the VA, well, the VA has so many levels of coverage depending on how many people you killed or how many years you guzzled beer at the NCO Club, that it would take a room full of lawyers to know whether the VA would cover me for a Midnight Cat Bite at a Local Hospital where I couldn't get on the phone to get an Authorization Number. You know the Emergency Room would have you sign something that guaranteed full payment. Then they would run a credit check, and if you had any active credit cards at all, then they would give your Cat Bite the 'Platinum Members Deal', and a couple of stitches could generate a bill for $7000 or something. But, yes, now that I think about it, I could have went to the VA Clinic first thing in the morning, but by that time I decided to just wrap it up and go to Class. Oh, yeah, I just started going back to College for a second degree, and I REALLY wanted to start missing classes... to see how quickly I could screw up my GPA. Yeah, I guess I was in DENIAL about how bad an animal bite could get. but then I thought about Cavemen. Did Cavemen die every time they were bit by a pussy cat? (but we don't know about the Folk Traditions of Medicine these primitives might have had). You know, all this fuss and confusion wouldn't have happened if America had Single Payer Healthcare and you could just walk in anywhere and receive healthcare without the Hospital ... well, haven't we heard stories about how Hospitals, unable to verify Insurance Information in the middle of the night will just let the patient wait around the clock. Does anybody really want to sit on a hard plastic chair all night? (they make the chairs hard plastic on purpose, to encourage people to change their minds and just leave and take their unprofitable problems somewhere else). So, yeah, America is a friggin nightmare! I already KNEW that seeking treatment was going to be a REALLY BAD and perhaps extremely expensive pain in the butt, and I just had to wonder whether the actual wound would be that anywhere near that bad. And now, well, All's Well That Ends Well. I'm only sorry that I fit into the Rich Predatory Republican Narrative of "See, Poor People Don't Even Need Health Care". Without kids, more time could have been given, but you have to think about your little ones and Sparta first. Sad to see this, but also happy she WAS saved and Ray is going to give her just as an amazing home as you tried to give her. We did have to rehome 2 females at 1 point. They tried to kill a 20+ yr old cat physically, then tried to starve and dehydrate him to death. I do understand, you ARE doing the right thing for your family.

Thank you for sharing this video. So sorry for the loss of Loki. Despite our best efforts, cats don't always adjust to new housemates. One of my cats was abandonded, and mostly lived in the open when she had a family. When I tried to introduce kitten rescues, her behavior showed she saw them as food rivals. No amount of attention, gentle correction, moving food dishes or litter boxes helped. Problem was solved when elderly relatives who fell in love with her offered to foster her. She is much happier being queen of her castle, the relatives love having an animal companion, and the kittens have grown into active, happy cats. There will be happier days ahead. May the positive energy of your viewers enter into you and your family.

Corey, you're doing the right thing. You tried your best, and some cats just need to be solitary cats, or just with another dog. She'll be much happier as an only cat with your friend. You are absolutely right to worry about your kids. They are still very young, and Chell's a smart girl, but it would be super hard for her to understand if Karma did hurt her or her brother on accident. Maybe if the kids were older, I'd say give it more time, but not with how things currently are. And like you said, she's going to a loving home to be taken care of and she'll never want for anything. Yeah, the chance of somebody getting bitten by a worked up cat is significant. My big Roary, a 4 year old tom, was really worked up at the screen door by a young calico that was looking inside (after months I took her in), but when I was signalling him with my foot to move back from the door, he bit my foot. One fang went in pretty deep, and he is a big cat. I couldn't go to the hospital because it looked too much like an animal bite and I wasn't sure whether Health Services wouldn't butt in and get involved. So it took 4 months for that wound to heal... for a while I thought it was never going to heal. And Roary is SWEET. But when they get excited, they get impulsive. Oh, the silver lining is that Roary listens to me when I tell him "get back"... it was like biting me gives him nightmares. Oh, and Karma is aggressive and domineering. One time I brought in a female, Betty, she looked like an English Shorthair, strong and stocky, and she became my 7th cat and I loved that Thing, but I suppose she had health problems (maybe a bb or pellet inside her that finally hit something vital) and she died after just a year or two. Wow, the house changed. I saw how she had just marginalized all the other cats. I loved that cat but realized that everyone else hated her and it was sort of unfair to them.

Sorry to hear you have to give Karma away to a friend. The cat probably wouldn't attack your kids like that for no reason. Unfortunately the tension you saw is normal, this is EXACTLY what happened between our two {now both are deceased} cats when we introduced Timone to Simba. We had Simba for a year before Timone came into the house, what you saw, and put in this video is EXACTLY what went on with our two cats, it took several days for them to finally be acquainted .with each other. As a matter of fact I have one cat now, her name is Ginger and she finally has calmed down with the other cats. Unfortunately it took a whole lot longer with her to get accustomed to the other cats in the house, believe it or not, it took her over 4 years before she finally grit growling and swatting at the other cats, but we were fortunate with her, she never jumped out or chased the other cats as Karma did, she just found her own area and was a loner for all that time. But other cats we brought in did do this too, and it usually calmed down after several days and usually most, it didn't take more than 2 weeks, all had free roam of the house during this time. This is something that does take time, and each cat is different in how they finally settle with each other, but in the end, it does stop. But they'll still have a squabble now and then, it's just the way cats are. But you having small children in the house I can understand your concerns, but if Karma has already taken to the kids, she's not likely to do what she is doing to Sparta. But unfortunately sometimes you can get caught up in the middle of one of those bouts, so you are doing what's best for your family by giving her to a friend. I've gotten caught in the middle of a few of our cats "getting acquainted battles and know how that is, so I do understand completely why Karma is being adopted out to your friend Ray. Just glad to hear she is getting a home and didn't end up in a shelter like so many cats do, and many end up living in foster homes for years and still never get a real home. So sad, but at least they have somewhat of a home. May you have better luck finding a new kitty friend for Sparta! He acts like he'd love to have one from how he wanted to be friends with Karma, but just wasn't too be.

I understand that some people really want them to get along, but keeping Karma just isn't the right decision. Sparta needs a cat who will be his friend, not just tolerate him, and Karma needs a home where she'll feel safe. I'm sure you've done tons more than we've seen in the videos. The truth some don't want to hear. Not all cats will integrate. Some cats will take a long time to just "stand" each other. Even if you do everything right over months. The stress of it is insane. The ending of mine was the two learned to tolerate each other's existence. They would hiss and swat at each other here and there. But it doesn't make for a happy home. Not all cats will integrate and decide they hate each other but will live together. There can be an even worse outcome. They can actively try to kill each other. Rehoming isn't optional then. While you could try longer for them to tolerate each other I agree with your decision. Even if you got to the "at least they don't try killing each other" point that doesn't make a happy home. Sparta really wants another cat so I'd look at getting a kitten. Poor sparta just wants a friend. I would give it a month after your friend adopts karma before looking at a kitten. Sparta needs to relax and go back into his role without stress for a while.

From a cat person her behavior was more from fear (bushy tail, etc) from two cats she didn’t know (Loki’s scent will still be around in places too) than meanness IMO. Please consider getting Sparta a younger kitten, cats are very social and he obviously needs a kitty friend!

Agreed, a mellow cat around Sparta's age who is known to do well with cats, dogs, and kids is the way to go. Kittens need to be in pairs and are too high energy for a senior cat. Also letting the introduction take place even slower would really help.

I think that is a good decision. Sparta doesn’t need that kind of stress in his life. He is getting up there in years. Some kitty’s just aren’t a good fit for certain families. That’s why at shelters they will have information that tells you whether they get along with other cats or not so I’m sure you’ll have better luck with that. She’s a very sweet girl and I’m so glad she’ll still have a home. Thank you Cory for bringing her in from the cold and getting her fixed. She’ll live a much better life now.

I’m commenting after watching Ray’s videos and the video about searching for a new friend for Sparta. You did the right thing, and rehoming Karma I was the best possible outcome. Karma gets a loving home, we still get to follow along with her life, and you rescue another cat that needs a new home as much as Karma did. I also did the long term socialization of two cats that attacked each other similar to Sparta and Karma. They did finally become friends, but it took months of daily effort, so I get it when you say you don’t have time. I did and it was worth it, but there were no kids in the middle of it and you don’t want kids to accidentally pick up a fear of cats through cat-to-cat aggression. I’m so looking forward to the next chapter in your cat adoption series! And for Sparta to get a new friend!

Actually some shelters will let you bring your pets to meet the new family member! Obviously not like 5 half feral cats or wild dogs, but one or two. It's supposed to be a neutral place meeting.

I'm behind you on this. We had a similar reaction between our two resident cats and a third cat we tried to bring to to the household. Over the years, our two kitties passed away and that third cat, Rusty, ended up moving back in with us! Rusty's a great cat, - he must be about 18 years old now.

You’re making the right decision for Karma and everyone in your household. Unfortunately, Karma seems to be stuck in survival mode, which has allowed her to survive outside for as long as she did. Any cat can and often will display displaced aggression when under stress, which puts Sparta and all of you at risk and under undue stress. If Karma is going to a house without other pets, that will be the best chance for her to have a happy life.

I'm sorry it didn't work out, but I think rehoming Karma is a good idea. Some cats just don't get along with other cats. Separating them will help them to be less stressed and fearful. At least we know Karma is fine with small dogs, and you found her a new loving home where she will always be safe, fed, and warm.

So sorry it didn't work out, but definitely made the right decision if she is actively seeking & attacking Sparta, even if didn't have kids the main priority is Sparta & his well being as that's his home, thankfully haven't had pairings that bad, but have always said with my Erin, & previous Queen bee Micah, no matter how cute the new kitty if it goes sour, their well being would come first. Poor wee man I hope Sparta finds his new furr play buddy one day to get up to fun shenanigans with 💝💝💝

Aw thats to bad that Karma wont get along with Sparta with everything you tried. Sparta is such a good boy and he doesnt deserve to get hurt physically and emotionally. While its sad to see Karma didnt work out its very good news to hear that she will still have a home with a household that will hopefully workout very nicely for her. Kudos to Ray for adopting her! But I think there is something we can all agree on. And that is Sparta is top cat and deserves to be with your family more than anything else and no one wants to see Sparta upset and get hurt. On the other note thats great how your ready for a new cat. Hopefully the cat thats made to be with you and your family will be great for your household including Sparta the top cat.

I don't think it had a anything to do with Sparta. She probably had encounters on the street with other cats that didn't go her way. Her new home will not have any other cats and she will thrive.

Thank you for saving Karma which included getting her medical care and a good home. Some cats do not do well in a home with other animals and young children. Your family rescued her from a hard life.

I am so sorry to see Karma didn't warm up to Sparta. If there weren't kids involved and you had the time, I might suggest some things to try. We had the same problem when our roommate and I introduced our cats. By the time he moved out, his cat and ours were sleeping in the same kitty bed. But in your situation, there is a lot more to consider, especially your children. You can't be there all the time and you're right, something could happen. Besides that, the situation is stressful for both of the cats and there is no sure sign it's going to get easier. You are making the choice that is best for your family and it's not as though you are abandoning Karma. She is a sweet kitty (when it doesn't involve other kitties) and you are genuinely trying to find the best fit for her. Don't regret your decision. Someone will love her the way she needs and deserves.

Expecting two cats to act like best friends from the start is why this was set up to fail. The only threat Karma feels is from Sparta. She has to show she isn't scared as a way to defend herself. She isn't "attacking" Sparta. She is displaying threatening behavior in order NOT to be attacked. She was probably bullied away from her siblings and is why she showed up starving. If she was ever allowed to learn Sparta won't attack her, she'd eventually stop. Yes best to move on and find Karma a good home.

I agree. Not sure how long this has been going on because to us viewers it seems to be progressing rather quickly and makes us feel Karma is not given a chance. I did not see her poofing up as if she was threatened. I am glad she's going to a good home but in reality a lot of kitties ate given up too quickly without giving them a chance to adjust.

With all do respect, he has done all he can and its not like hes dumping karma off on the streets hes making sure she gets a home, he was in hopes to keep her but if she cant get along with pets alrdy their in the home fast enough it is an issue, sparta is not eating food thats not good for him just as much as its not good for karma to feel she has to "prove" she cant be bullied

However, there was a dog, a child, and a man with a camera all making noise and following her in a new unexplored area. And when she sees another cat that may be a threat and shows she's not going to be bullied, she's out. That's what I saw. Cats rarely make friends from the start. Most hiss, swipe, or hide. If he wants a bonding cat for Sparta, he should just get a kitten. It is why I said it is best to move on. It is also why I said it would fail from the start because most cats don't get along at first. Expecting them to is a bit naive. It may have been better to put them in a room together and close the door, and as my father used to say, "They'll work it out".

One dumped at 3 mo., one found in the middle of a field at 4-5 wks old and one at about the same age who, a year later, toddled crying her little heart out, right up to my old (3rd owner) German Shepard in our yard who, by some miracle, didn't eat her ! (She's my little 'fearless fireman' and the one who owns me.) These ungrateful wretches fuss at each other all the time. A forth kitty of approx. 3 mo. wandered into the house behind my grumpiest, (Mini Beast) not long ago. He's sweat and playful but the 5-7 year old's remain disappointing 'cohabitants'.

It's good to hear she'll still get a good place to live, though from what I saw, she never went on the straight out attack on him, she was just doing warning "strikes" to say "Stay away, I need space", there is a good possibility she'd open up to him over time, but it would most likely be quite a while based on what's been going on thus far.

Those where "strikes", Sparta backed off many times, she chased him down. If she was a stray she probably had very bad encounters with other cats out there. She would always be aggressive to Sparta if they had kept her.

When I got my second cat it was the other way around, she really wanted to play with my first cat but he didnt like her at all. We seperated them at night just to be sure he wouldnt hurt her since she was only half a year old. It took them about 2-3 weeks but now they cant be without the other. When he doesnt see her he walks around the whole house calling out for her. Really sad to hear it didnt work out, she seems to be a good pet for a family without a cat because she is so sweet with everyone but sparta.

Calico cats can be very dominant and even be a bit psycho about it. My mom's calico went after my husky, bit her in the back and drew blood. She would also attack the dominant male cat I had even if he was asleep. She did calm down but I didn't have kids that needed to put first.

I never had cats but I'd have nothing of that behavior. I'm good with the plant spray. Cats get it when I need to them quit certain behavior. Lots of supportive comments here but I bet there is a way it just didn't occur to Cory. There is bound to be a caat whisperer (or 100's of them) out there that know too much about cats to even care about a YT cat channel but could have an obvious to them solution for this. Cat logic is not people logic. The guy that cared for some of the oldest cats ever recorded had many in his house, feeding them bacon and eggs with coffee. Not even kidding you. He did something right. Cats were happy to love with him, obviously. He got nearly every cat to grow very, very old with him. That's not luck. It means there are ways.
