Today, I'm sharing my thoughts on the new $55 Rouge Allure L'Extrait refillable lipsticks from Chanel. There are 20 shades available, they are highly pigmented and shiny with a satin finish. Happy Saturday Babes! I hope you're all having a safe and wonderful weekend. As you know, I'm a huge Chanel Beauty fan so it pains me to say these lipsticks are disappointing but I will always be 100% honest and transparent with you. The new $55 price tag is not justified by the refillable component. I just double checked my Tom Ford lipsticks which are $58 and they contain .1 oz of lipstick. You're better off purchasing a Rouge Coco Bloom or Le Rouge Duo Ultra Tenue lipstick in my opinion. What do you think? xx

Agreed, so glad you brought this up! Couldn’t believe it when I saw the price of these is £46 😱 I assumed they’d be in the usual £32-35 range. There’s just no way I’d pay that much for one lipstick, and that is spoken as a lipstick fanatic! Mediocre, red-centric colour range as well 🙄

The color range was a bit disappointing, I agree. I actually just ordered two directly from Chanel yesterday, but I just got an email from them saying they canceled my order (?) but I’m actually okay with it, because on second thought, I already have enough lipsticks like these and in these colors and don’t really want/need them!

I loved this video. It wasn’t negative at all, it was honest. It actually made me laugh at times because I genuinely sensed your anger 😁 This launch is bad. Chanel is my favourite beauty brand but I will not purchase these. They’re constantly raising the pricing of their bags, and their makeup will follow the same trend. People will continue to buy it though. Unless people stop buying, they will continue to do it! I loved that pinky nude shade though!

Chanel took a page out of Hermes pricing book . I was shocked at how small the lipstick bullet was for their new sheer lip balm lipstick and those are $72 USD. Pricing for luxury items have increased tremendously this past year.

Did you notice that because Chanel made this refillable lipstick slimmer, actually that $72 Hermes lipstick is now a better deal than Chanel? Chanel full set is $55 for 0.07 oz (= $786 per oz) and Hermes full set is $72 for 0.12 oz (= $600 per oz). For the refills, Chanel refill is $40 for 0.07 oz (= $571 per oz) and Hermes refill is $43 for 0.12 oz (= $358 per oz). So as a refillable lipstick, Hermes costs less per oz than Chanel!! PLUS Hermes gives all those neat packaging, eg. cute orange sustainable box, Hermes ribbon, protective pouch just like their handbags, magnetic cap and a special gold logo on top. Also Hermes refills are retractable on their own so you can just use the refills.

Totally on point 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 Now I’m worried Chanel doesn’t start changing their packaging to charge $55 for all of them 🙈 Their Le blanc highlighter is $80. $10 more than their regular highlighter, but the product is lot more and it comes with a mini kabuki brush (full size is $50) so it’s not at all bad pricing. I don’t know why Chanel did what it did with this lipstick. This is not even eco friendly. What, we save on one plastic top? This is a flub. Thanks for your video 💕

Thanks Erin for just being honest about your thoughts on this particular product. I have been a faithful Chanel woman for as long as I can remember. The products have never disappointed me and as I have gotten older, the more I have appreciated the classic elegance and subtle coloring the brand is known for. I will be passing on this lipstick. I have paid $55 from time to time for a Cle de Peau lipstick which also requires buying the separate holder. Those have been special treats only. There are so many excellent options for a great lipstick, it will not be hard for me to miss this one.

I have always been a Chanel lover. However the price of their handbags have gone up tremendously and the quality has gone down. Now the price of the lipstick has gone up and we get less product. At this point I could be wearing a drugstore lipstick and it’s better quality and no one would be wiser. Very very disappointed in Chanel lately. I feel as if they’re gouging the consumer.

I noticed this size difference on the UK Chanel website too. These new refillable lipsticks have 2 grams of product, while the other Chanel lipsticks contain between 3 and 3.5 grams of product!

Youre my favourite youtuber erin, so today I was at myer (australia) which is similar to your nordstrom, and I thought I would swatch some chanel foundations to find my shade and I was most comfortable in B10, I also remembered you love the cc cream and the lovely girl gave me a sample of cc cream, les beiges healthy glow foundation and ultra le tient to try at home, so now if I want to shop through a link I'll know my shade. as a side note I also have the dior airflash and its amazing, I took it on vacation and if I take something on vacation it means I really like it.

Thank you for making us aware of that issue! I personally do not like the refillable-theme at all. a) Like you, I rarely go through a bullet. I like options and thus have quite a few lip products. b) The companies don't guaranty that the shade line (or lipstick line in general) will be available for at least 10 yrs. My granny was able to buy her favourite luxury make-up for approx. 20 yrs! The only lipstick I did finish was not available anymore after what, two years? (looking at you Urban Decay). c) The price for refills should be at least 15 EUR/USD etc. cheaper. Stupid, greenwashing marketing bs.

😭 I have just purchased the refill online as I loved the look of the slim gold case. I'm a long-standing Chanelphile! Was planning on using it as is! 😂Good job I have two original black cases so that I can actually twist it up and use it! I wonder how many people have been duped?! Hi Erin and Jazzy! You look pretty in all the new lip colors. I purchased 812, 848, and 854 before watching your review. There are no names on the Chanel website. I like names. It helps me see the color in my brain! When I checked out I said to my husband, “Chanel be expensive!” You are right! Darn “Shrinkflation”! I do like that it’s better for the environment with less plastic so maybe that’s why. I don’t think they will change all the sizes probably just the green/clean lines. I've never used an entire Chanel lipstick, but I have, in fact, over used the pop-up mechanism. It was my very first one, and I was so mesmerized by the clicky opener that I would pull it out of my purse and play with it. Now, it won't pop up, I have to shake it to get the lipstick to fly out. So I hope a refillable case they expect you to use long enough to need refills is made better than their standard one, because they don't last forever.

I love this review, Erin. SO transparent, SO real, SO needed! Thank you! I feel like I personally prefer the formula of this lipstick as you described it. Thank you for the honest review. By far, most of my generous makeup collection comprises Chanel. Since Peter Philips left Chanel--many years ago--Chanel's appeal has steadily declined for me. Overall, the makeup feels far more trendy and repetitive in terms of shade range. I have been waiting for another pale/white-based pearly pink lipstick like they had several years ago, but I don't see anything like that now. My enthusiasm for the brand reached an all time low with the recent shrinkflation. It doesn't look good and shows a real disconnect between the brand and its customers.

I honestly think brands are desperate to increase their prices and profit margins. So instead of causing an uproar and losing customers by increasing the prices on their current products they are releasing newer products (just for the sake of charging a higher price) with extremely high price tags for what they are actually worth. This lipstick is a perfect example of that and there are many many more examples out there in the MU world. I for one am not falling for it lol. Luxury makeup is already so expensive. Im NOT paying more than I already am🙃

I bought the lipstick yesterday and I have to say I'm not really happy with the price (where I live is 50-51 euro) but it's definitely my favourite formula. It's hydrating, pigmenting and not on a last place for me, because I wear only red lipstick, definitely the best red what I have. Rouge Allure Coco Bloom which you compare to is much more shiny and I personally l prefer not that shiny. This one is something between a matte and a shiny lipstick and I really like that.

I actually don't mind that they shrunk the lipstick size - as you say, how often do you finish a full tube of lipstick - but the price should reflect this! I have noticed that with lesse-pigmented, nuder shades, manufacturers seldom achieve the quality of deeper shades like reds, fushia. That’s why I get very picky whenever “I need a nude”.

Hi Erin thank you for your review. Here in Australia I have noticed a recent price hike from luxury brands Chanel, Dior and Lancome to name a few. Chanel lipsticks here retail for around $62 now. It seems to me that some new launches from brands are coming with extra dollars especially for foundations. On a side note I watched your recent review on Chanel Allure Sensuelle and went out and tried it here. I loved it and purchased an EDP bottle. It's not one that gets reviewed much but it's gorgeous.

It’s not a matter of costing more to make, it’s about limiting how many people have the means to acquire it. Very smart business move. They are in business to make money. It’s the very person who questions price/ value that you want to eliminate. A aspirational customer is not as valuable as a customer that sees “Gestalt” See what I mean? Great review 👍🏽

Erin, thank you for your honest review! It is disappointing on the price per quantity. I did buy one lipstick and one refill as a Chanel lover and crazy for liippies. I have not received them yet. Will I buy more? No. 😊❤️

The color is incredible beautiful and I wanted to buy it and was shocked when I saw the price too.. The 'normal prices are already expensive, but I love the quality of the Chanel lipsticks.. So I am always willing to do the splurge.. But I haven't checked the content before... I thought it's going to be the same... The increased price plus the reduction in content is a no go for me...! Speaking of Chanel price increase, good thing I purchased the lip hydration and lip/cheek balm before things got crazy at Chanel. And my 4th Chanel fragrance is arriving on Monday. Needless to say, it’ll be a long while before I purchase anything again from Chanel.

I was able to twist my refil up without the case! :) I didn't want to buy the more expensive one with the case. Ps. It's tiny! (Oh you just stick your finger nail inside the bottom and twist.)

I felt the same way about Charlotte tilbury hylaronic kiss. I liked the formula so much. I applied it a lot, and it was gone in a couple of weeks! I couldn’t believe I used it all!

I totally agree with you. This was the last straw for me. I will no longer be buying chanel products. I feel they were trying to save themselves on production and increase the price and advertise it to us as if this was a good thing, like consumers wouldn't figure it out.

I was going to replace all my chanel lipsticks as they had gotten old. Think I'm going to stick with l'oreal and Revlon lipsticks. Love those!

You are right Erin too expensive for a lipstick. I takes a while for me to finish a lipstick specially when i have others less expensive and great quality.
