Hi, Tharries. I found the channel you were talking about roughly a week ago and immediately watched "Spearhead From Space". The video quality is excellent; also, I'm glad they restored that snippet of Fleetwood Mac's "Oh Well" during the toy factory scene. I haven't heard it since my first viewing on PBS here in the US when I was in uni. I have plans to watch more in the New Year - possibly as soon as New Year's Day. There's so much to choose from. ^_^

Actually Doctor Who has been available for free here in the States on Tubi Tv. They're not available as full stories but they're available in a story by story basis. There are missing episode and they have some animated episodes. The only animated Episodes that they don't have, to the best of my knowledge, are the Moonbase and the REign of Terror. They do have Power of the Daleks, the Abominable Snowman, Evil of the Daleks, The faceless ones and something called Fury From the Deep.

I'm in USA and Doctor Who: Classic is great (and available) for us! One funny thing is that uploads were daily but they skipped a day after The Greatest Show in the Galaxy. A couple KZbin comments in The Greatest Show in the Galaxy complained about the lack of an upload that day - which is incredibly hilarious considering the story of The Greatest Show in the Galaxy. I can't help but wonder if they skipped that day on purpose.

Uh... Might be awhile... HBO(Max) still has New Who from 2005-2022 (Series 1-13/ Doctors 9-13) and with Tubi/PlutoTV and now this Dr Who Classic KZbin channel... Seems like Disney+ hasn't shown much interest (yet) in bringing it all under one roof (for US and other counties)... I'm surprised they didn't try and figure out a way to "work it out" back when they got it for the 60th... While it might be confusing for many "Newbies"... Disney+ has already (IMO) made a mess of how it Organizes what it does have... The "Specials" are each Individually listed (and Numbered) with Season 1 (2024) separated too. While it might not be "accepted" practice to link to other sources... Or (like this Classic Channel is doing) offering complete "Random" Serials in no particular order... In whatever licensing deal they can "work out" to keep the US Market engaged... Since BBC America dropped Broadcast of New and Classic Episodes (along with PBS? Its been a while if some local Stations still show random stories New and Classic Era, it had been a thing back when BBCA was still showing it)
@jamesa.5830Ай бұрын
@@lgoamity The contract to stream Nu-Who with MAX hasn’t expired and it was exclusive in many territories so Disney hasn’t had a chance to add that material. I believe that contract runs out late this summer so then we will see where it lands. It may become a negotiation point in Disney+ remaining a partner for Season 3.

This makes me so angry (but not with you!). That's because you're completely wrong about the BBC making Classic as accessible as possible, it appears it's only for the US when they don't really need it as they have various streaming services who have Classic Doctor Who. Whilst the BBC seems to have something against/not care about all the other countries like Australia who don't have any legal streaming access to Classic Who. Why is the BBC intent on pushing the rest of the world to access Classic Who illegally (which, I'm afraid for them, many people do) by not giving us legal access? Surely they'd be better to make money by licencing it to streaming services. Many can't afford to buy DVDs or Blu-ray, as way too expensive to collect it all, particularly in this economic climate. Australia had Classic and new Who on Britbox Australia until the end of March 2023 (along with new Who) after which it was removed, the licence not renewed for no valid reason as it turns out. At the time we thought it was because Disney wanted it, but new Who has since been licensed again to Stan (10 Seasons only), Amazon Prime (6 seasons only) and the ABC's iView (5 seasons currently) which proved that theory wrong. So there is no reason they couldn't give it back to Britbox but have failed to do so. It's obvious now that Disney isn't interested in past Doctor Who, especially Classic. They may not even want to be involved in a third season of new new Who.

I regularly watched Tom Baker Doctor Who episodes as a child on American TV. I remember them fondly but I’ve never seen them since. I’ve watched many of these classic episodes since discovering the uploads on KZbin a few weeks ago and boy, they can be difficult to watch. The pacing is glacially slow with each story stretched out to as many as 6 episodes when 2 or 3 would have been plenty. The acting is universally over the top and the special effects are bad even for the time period. Until now, I had never seen more than clips of any other classic Doctor than Tom Baker so I always felt cheated. After watching these uploads, I don’t feel like I’ve missed out on anything. While many of the Tom Baker episodes are difficult to watch, his era was clearly better than the others.
@lgoamityАй бұрын
I assume you watched those 4th Doctor/Tom Baker episodes on PBS? Do you recall if they were shown in Omnibus/Movie Format or Episode Form? While not a HUGE difference the Movie Format tends to "flow" better (cutting out the In-between Title/Closing Credits and "extra" Cliffhangers/Intros, maybe a nip/tuck hear and there to squeeze it into a time slot) I recorded a lot of the "Movie" and Individual Episodes to VHS from my local PBS stations... There'd usually be a couple "Movie" Edits (2 different Stations/Markets...) each Weekend and eventually my "local" PBS showed Individual Episodes from the Beginning, in order, during Weekdays... So you only got like a 20-25 minute "taste" each night, so you were sort of on the hook if you wanted to see what happened next.... Since this was mostly before Tomb of the Cybermen was Returned to the Archive and various Restorations and Colorizations, Animations weren't available yet... The Episodes of 1 and 2 were only of Complete Stories (available/returned as of those late 80's broadcasts)... And for 3, there was several "lost" stories that were still only available in B/W... So it is sort of odd today to see those Episodes/Stories in Color... Invasion of the Dinosaurs I think even dropped Episode 1 because it was B/W and the others were Color. Long Story Short, Apparently you aren't alone in how "Modern Audiences" want to consume Classic Dr. Who... Good luck to you... I think you're missing out on some good stories... Maybe try the Episode Format and force yourself to only watch 1 a day? In today's Binge Culture it probably is hard but maybe the only way to not feel the slower pace?
@richardvinsen2385Ай бұрын
@ Episodes were aired each afternoon. I don’t think I’m missing out on anything by binge watching each story. Watching a single story over 4 to 6 days will not hold my interest.
@jamesa.5830Ай бұрын
@@lgoamity Yes, I find that watching classic who outside of a few of the very best is best enjoyed a single episode a day. It’s the way that tv was consumed back then and therefore the way in which it was made, and I find it more enjoyable viewing it in that way. My PBS station as a kid rarely ever showed omnibus episodes. It was pretty much all in episode format.
@lgoamityАй бұрын
@@jamesa.5830 While it is becoming rarer these days I do find the occasional "weekly" series that I find myself enjoying quite a bit having to "Wait" a week... And get to ponder what will happen next... (Even get into conversations with others, or myself about "What if..."). Something that doesn't happen as much if I can watch it all in one sitting. Fairly certain my PBS Station for example showed "The Caves of Androzani" (5's Last Serial/Regeneration) in "Movie" Format... Some of those Cliffhangers were impressive, I'm not sure how I'd have handled the Suspense waiting for the next episode...

The problem with digital downloads vs old DVD's is they might be edited. I want to watch them in their original form, not through the RTD, 'made for a modern audience' censorship filter. I hate to think what his team might do to 'Genesis of the Daleks' in the future based on his Davros changes. The recent colorization and added regeneration scene in 'The war games' had subtle unnecessary changes sneaked in.
