Trialed on 351/352 while being an extra CGL train twice as TRN 741 for one round trip in the afternoon before being withdrawn 351/352 had a different arrival chime during trial period, only recorded at Tanah Merah though

As of now, trains that touch CGL from 29 Oct 2023 would be equipped with the new chimes (except 005/006 as of now tho)

4:21 this chime is for non-terminating interchangeable stations. there is a separate chime for non-termianting non-interchangeable stations.

I think the reason why SMRT may have chosen to commission these new chimes is in order to differentiate between different announcement types, especially for those who may not understand English as well. It reminded me of the icons and colours representing different boarding berths at some bus interchanges (particularly the Woodlands and Hougang interchanges). These new chimes somehow sound un-Singaporean to me because I'm not yet accustomed to hearing them on the MRT system, but also in an interesting way as they seem to give me a vague foreign vibe, like sort of a European vibe but not really.

yeah, i think its a fairly good initiative to add the new chimes, though some of the chimes are seemingly annoying (they were quite loud to be fair) and yeah, the chimes do not have any localised tune to it and sounded weird, but it is a matter of time we will accept it lol the chimes should be made based off local tunes by local composers, that way it can have some sense of singaporean touch (i agree on the chimes being un-singaporean).
