How do you get it to show KZbin Music next to your navigation like yours is @ 1:55 ?

I hope I am understanding this. To get the split screen hit the icon on bottom left. It will google between showing full screen of map or music app to the split screen. KZbin automatically let's you swipe to get the 2 different music screens. This should work with any music app you are using. If that is not what you meant please message me back. @@techgadgets100 that's exactly what I meant but mine only shows Google podcasts and doesn't show anything else .I don't know how to get it to show music instead

Whatever music app you used last will show there. The podcasts app you are using is probably being categorized as music app by Android auto. If you don't use it then just hide it in the android auto settings.

How can you tell what version of AA you're running? You say "Coolwalk" updates. mine just says version 11... something. How can I tell if I have the latest version? Thanks for sharing.

You can check your Android Auto version by just scrolling to the bottom when in the Android Auto setting. I believe that version 9 was when "coolwalk" was first introduced. That will not be listed in the version, only the numbers. Just like each new Android update has a nickname but only the numbered version is shown in the software update. Android Auto will automatically update to latest version as Google introduces them.

If you are plugging the phone into the car- you can't. But you can use android auto wirelessly if your car has that feature. If it doesn't, then you can get a wireless device. I reviewed a few, here is a video for the Motorola ma1. kzbin.info/www/bejne/ppyXdpuLo7aKrbM

Some wireless adapters offer that feature but it is not a feature of Android auto.

How do you know if you have the Coolwalk update for Android Auto

The coolwalk update changed the display quite a bit, so if yours looks like mine on the video, you have coolwalk. There have been other updates but they have been minor so far.

I think mine got updated without my knowledge. The icons are square and I can no longer find the wallpaper on settings

Yup...they took away the wallpapers....now,its either blacked out background or the wallpaper that is on your phone screen...kind of a bummer

@@mikekopisz1227 I think Google thinks this is an upgraded feature because now it mirrors your phone. Hopefully more customizations are coming.

The recent apps icons are the most recent maps app, the most recent media app, the most recent comm app, and one additional app. How do I nominate what the fourth app should be? I want that app to be the "Toyota" app from the launcher screen, so I can have a one-touch way to exit Android Auto. In my car I have to exit Android Auto in order to tune Sirius XM or access other functions of the Toyota infotainment software. Right now it can take as many as three screen touches to get out of Android Auto. This is horribly unusable. Thanks for any help you can give.

As of now, there is no way to specify the forth app, it is just the last app. You could add XM app to Android auto then it might be quicker. Hopefully android auto gets more customizable soon...

Is there a way to make the music side bigger? Currently my AA is divided into 3 spaces 1 big maps with small music and small recent calls lol

As of now, you can't adjust the side to side size but you should be able to swipe away the 3 panel. So then you will just have the music and map, which will make the music a little bigger. You can also make the music info take up the entire screen by tapping it.

Mine became top and bottom after recent update. Do you know how to change back to this version?

Android Auto is getting updated frequently but the top/ bottom, left/ right is automatically optimized by Google based on your screen size and screen ratio. You can adjust if you want your maps on top or bottom but as of now, you cant change orientation of layout. Hopefully in the future Android Auto will have more customizations.

Im not clear on the question. Are you trying to import a wallpaper into Android Auto to show on the car display?

No, my screen goes off. Does your phone lock when you turn off screen? there is setting in Android auto to let AA run even when phone screen is locked, if you off that toggled off that might kill AA once you turn off phone. Hope that helps.

I have Change thing that has only happened in the last couple of days. The tool bar has now gone to the right of the screen. Where as before the tool bar was at the bottom. Any idea how to fix it so it shows at the bottom again.

I did not get that update. As of my current software, there is no way to move the tool bar. I will let you know if my Android Auto changes/ updates, and if there is a way to fix it.

Just go to the Android auto settings on your phone and enable Taskbar widgets, If that's what You're talking about

Excellent video. I had figured most of this by my playing around with it, but your method of explaining it should be the instructions you don’t get with Android Auto LOL! Two of the biggest frustrations with Android Auto with my new car is making a simple phone call. Because it’s a Chevrolet car, You hit the button to speak on the steering wheel and want to connect using Bluetooth and it tells you you have to have a data plan (totally ridiculous). The other method is to long press the button which has you using Google/Android Auto, and most of the time the call never happens and it will (after a long wait) end up saying something went wrong. So frustrating to make a simple call so I end up while driving to navigate to my favorite contacts to find the person I want to call. Not a safe way to do it. The second thing is how the hell can you send a text verbally using Android Auto when the texting app isn’t one of the apps to show in your car? If you receive a text it notifies you and asks you if you want to send a reply, but I have found now way to send a new text that I initiate by voice. Do you have a way to do that?

Thanks for the comment! For the calling, maybe you can add a quick toggle like like I show in the video. Then you would just need to tap the icon for frequently called contacts, this would sidestep google and maybe Chevrolet? For the texting, I do not think there is a work around. You can only use apps that are supported in Android Auto, I am sure they will add more apps in the future though.

You are not able to change to a vertical layout. Supposedly Goggle decides on vert or horz layout based on your car screen size and ratio and will then automatically assign the layout. Maybe in future, Google will allow us to change this...
