I had an algae problem too when I started my tank, it wasn't just diatoms. I put a bicolour blenny in there and he cleaned everything
@DannysAquariums4 жыл бұрын
Hmm thanks for the tip, I might get one for this reef.
@rainmakersg734 жыл бұрын
The blenny is only a bandaid and not a permanent fix. The bioload will increase further because you need to feed the blenny and it will grow (and you need to feed more and it produces more waste to the system). To remove algae, you just need to do 2 things. (1) reduce your bioload and (2) remove your nitrates and phosphates. You can try carbon dosing for (2).

Just a suggestion. I wouldn't drip acclimated shipped fish. The ammonia spike when the bags are opened after shipping burn their bills etc. Caused by co2 buildup in bag. That's why card recommended quick transfer. Temp acclimate in bag then as soon as you cut open bag quick transfer to net and add immediately. LFS purchases should be drip acclimated but never shipped.
@DannysAquariums4 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for the suggestion! I see my LFS acclimate imported fish as well, that's why I did the same thing.

Hey Danny, how were you able to get rid of Red Planaria? I’ve tried Flatworm Exit but that only seems to effect 60% or so of the worms. I also picked up a Yellow Coris Wrasse, but although being a super cool fish, he doesn’t seem interested.
@DannysAquariums4 жыл бұрын
I tried a six line wrasse, kept 'em under control but came back once the wrasse was gone.

Do you feel the lights on your tanks are strong enough for those corals? They look like the Innovative lights?
@DannysAquariums4 жыл бұрын
On the 10 gallon I have the standard light from Innovative Marine that came with the set. Seems to be a good light, the corals are growing fast. This tank was set up not long ago so I can’t really tell you yet. On this 15g I have the standard Blue Marine light.

Looks like your nitrates and phosphates are causing the algae bloom. Do you test for nitrates and phosphates? Have you tried carbon dosing?
@DannysAquariums4 жыл бұрын
I do not, and I have not. I think I figured out what happened. There were sponges in the back chamber stuck, catching all the waste. I took them out and the algae stopped growing. These sponges were nitrate and phosphate farms.
@rainmakersg734 жыл бұрын
Without knowing your nitrate and phosphates levels, you are groping in the dark and guessing. I think they are an absolute necessity if you want to maintain high water quality. Nano tanks are much tougher than normal tanks because of the small water quantity and lack of equipment. All the best!

SPS coral are kind of harder to care for. I may try some in the future though.

To keep SPS, you bioload needs to drop and your phosphates and nitrates need to go down. Carbon dosing will help.
