An integral part of hockey doesn't even involve any skating or shooting. Well, I mean you still have to get to the faceoff dot but you can crawl your way there or just take your sweet time pretending like you know how to skate. Learn everything you need to know about the basics of faceoffs, including the new counters in this video!
Picture of all the counters: imgur.com/a/KmGrS90
A more advanced version, yes there is more to faceoffs, will come out later in the year.

Huge help thanks. Something as simple as holding the right joystick to the right then slide down. Except I noticed when I push it to the right as they square up my guy goes crazy and non stop tries winning the faceoff a bunch of times before the puck drops then I lost out already. So I push it to the right way before the square up and it works

I feel like every time I use a lefty forehand on a face off it always makes the player move up and down non stop, and I'll lose the face off. It doesn't matter how good the player is because it's happening almost 90% of the time with lefties.

Thats weird, it could be your controller registering your right stick movement as a lot higher or lower than it is. May be time to replace it. I recommend going into practice mode and moving your right stick around and then going into instant replay and seeing where the game thought your thumb was

Hey there. I find that against the AI, I win most facelifts when the ref takes a while to drop it but if he drops it quickly I almost always lose. Am I just too late and need to pull earlier or is there any other tips for those speedy puck drops?
@Brianstormed

Hmm, can't say I noticed such a thing. Try just doing a basic backhand on those speedy puck drops to see if it makes a difference. It probably won't do and you may just need to be quicker.

I won't be playing versus this year. The low overalls with this gameplay is extremely frustrating, especially when I'm the Wings. I played some games against top players and all I did was miss wide open nets. Only rebounds seemed to be consistent. Instead I'll be showcasing Competitive Seasons and HUT Champions and climbing the leaderboards there.

Awesome video as usual, keep up the good work! I’m a bit confused though with the faceoffs. A few people that I’ve met recently in NHL 19 (also in NHL 18) has a method to win the faceoffs with their forehand or backhand without even putting their stick down on the ice prior to the puck being dropped. It doesnt matter how I counter, they win almost every single time. Do you know how it’s performed? Would be great to be able to counter back with the same method while playing against such players. It must be some kind of a bug.
@Brianstormed
@Brianstormed 6 жыл бұрын
This happens when your opponent is playing on NHL 94 controls (maybe hybrid too?) where they do faceoffs with one button. They seem to have an advantage when it comes to faceoffs, and it is a consideration by EA to keep it fair.

Does the phantom forehand to prevent the push still work? You line up on your backhand, and last second switch to a forehand to cleanly beat the guy trying to backhand push in your zone off a faceoff. That was my go to in 18 to prevent the dude from getting a clean tie up in my end
@Brianstormed
@Brianstormed 6 жыл бұрын
No, they removed that as it was a glitch and made it so that the backhand sticklift beats the tieup.

I've been a fan of your vids for all of last year and I think they're great. I just want to know if there's any way for me to stop forcing passes. Like I'll see the guy on the back door and instinctively pass to him even if it isn't open.
@tryhard633
@tryhard633 6 жыл бұрын
For me personally I try to throw in many mix ups through out the game. A more experienced player will throw together different zone entries, cycling, passing vs shooting on a 2 on 1 etc. If you go for the pass often I would practice forcing yourself to hold onto the puck on a 2 on 1 in the mid to late game, often times your opponent will get sucked into covering the pass and will leave you open for a shot or even leave you to walk in and deke the goalie. It will get better with time good luck to you!
@Brianstormed
@Brianstormed 6 жыл бұрын
Negative reinforcement would work, since you keep going for that pass, it gets intercepted, you recognize that you made a mistake, and you'll try not to do it again. It'll still happen but it will probably be less often. One thing that works in a situation like that is to go for saucer passes with the RB or R1 button which can flip over people's sticks and make it to the guy who is backdoor even if he isn't open. Lots of top players will force passes like this and will still score. Sometimes you just gotta wait it out like Connor said.

I never knew backhand stick lift beats tie up. is it a clean win or does it result in a tie up animation?

What about the push face off and the straight shot of the the face off?
@Brianstormed
@Brianstormed 6 жыл бұрын
The push faceoff move is the tie up move, it's just two different animations. One is when you are doing it against a backhand so its a clean push, the other is a little less effective when you just hold them at their spot. I did forget about the shot off the faceoff, but only because its like the deke. Its useless, you'll never score unless the guy has an empty net and even then it's better to win a normal faceoff because its hard to win against any other faceoff move.
@davidrocchetti8235
@davidrocchetti8235 6 жыл бұрын
I find that the backhand tie-up move is amazing against any backhand draw. The shot faceoff is understandable that you didn't mention it because of it only being good if there's like 2 seconds left. Anyways was just curious about those two, keep up the great content. Thanks dude.

The last few years i would always line up in the forehand. If my opponent went forehand i used stick lift, and if my opponent went backhand i would go tie up. This almost always worked unless i was playing someone super good then i would switch it up. What is gonna be the meta this year?

Back hand stick lift now beats or ties all other moves
@Brianstormed
@Brianstormed 6 жыл бұрын
For the forehand vs. forehand, the sticklift is still op. It beats the basic forehand, and draws with stick lift and tieup. A better faceoff rating would mean you'd win almost all the time. On the backhand, the basic backhand bests everything except tieup. That would be my choice and then switch it up from time to time to the backhand sticklift.
@Extasei

@Brianstormed
@Brianstormed 6 жыл бұрын
That is through NHL 94 controls (maybe hybrid too) where the only way they can win a faceoff is by pushing one button. EA tries to keep it fair because they can't do any faceoff counters.

For some reasons Tieups will not beat the basic backhand. I don't get it lol I still win most of my faceoffs ive always been a 60% or higher faceoff man but the tieups just will not beat the clean back hand. Any suggestions on why? Im lining up on my forehand grip i push the left trigger up first to initiate a tie up and nope i still lose a faceoff if someone does a clean backhand

Hey Brian, I've been watching your videos for some while now and I love the content! But I have a small nit-pick to whine about, you lack some kind of background music. I don't know if it's a decision to leave background music completely out of your videos, but it would make content much 'better'. Especially in the 3 v 3 video with your buddies, the whole video would've been way better if you would've included some music to the background. But yea it's a small thing to whine about but still something I would love to see (well hear). Much love from Finland!
