I was thinking about your comment (regarding Romans) that to go back to the law after having died to it would be like thinking of another woman whilst kissing your wife. I was thinking the other day it would be like getting remarried after your spouse died. Now perhaps you would keep a picture or two of her or him around, depends on the person of course. But if you only had pictures of your deceased spouse around, and were often kissing that photo before going to be with your new spouse at night-it would be rather odd. The other spouse would have a hard time with that I think, for in that case he/she would be vying for the affections of the spouse over and against the spouse that had deceased. What do you think? I am not a widower so I cannot presume to know the pain of losing a spouse, so please I mean no offense to any - strictly using the illustration for understanding the Romans passage. Grace!

Patrick Lacaire I have been there. I think you are on the right track. All illustrations break down, of course. The main thought is the utter wrongness of the wife submitting to the dead husband's rule!
