Hi Elliot, like you I was thinking about order the BFI 4K version of Seven Samuari as I have the Criterion blu-ray version. As I'm in Canada do you know if the BFI version will have the extra features on the 4K disc, or if the blu-ray disc will be region free?

@@davek3373 I believe that all of the features are on a blu-ray that will be region B locked. Sometimes labels like BFI will put the features on the 4K disc, but I think due to the 3 hr+ runtime, they have left the features to be on the blu-ray. Hope that helps!

Finally, Paper Moon! What an incredible film. The cinematography is stunning. I can't remember a better month. I'll be getting this, Godzilla, The Seven Samurai, and Scarface. This is all I want for Christmas.

I agree it is one of Criterion’s best release months ever. I like the blend of a few classics, and a few very big surprises. I wish criterion would do more musicals. West Side story would be an amazing 4K release and would benefit from the Criterion treatment.

Thank you Elliott! Another expensive month. Seven Samurai, nothing more needs to be said. Paper Moon, Peter Bogdanovich was such a great film maker and Historian and friend to collectors. How appropriate for Scarface to be released on 4K as Howard Hawks was a friend and mentor to him. Howard Hawks was just a genius film maker.

Can't say I care much for The Shape Of Water. But its importance of getting included in the CC is that it is a Fox/Disney movie, so hopefully in the future we'll get more movies from that vault that don't already have a 4K edition.

It’s cool that Shape of Water caused awareness that CC has access to Fox titles, but Criterion already announced a Fox searchlight film (All of Us Strangers), and I hope people don’t sleep on that one. It comes out next month.

@@extofer Sure, but that is a recent film, and Searchlight was only the distributor. Shape of Water is an older film and was produced by Searchlight and dates from before Disney's acquisition of Fox.

Hello from Toronto! I recently had the chance to see the new 4K transfer of Seven Samurai on the big screen. It looks and sounds simply gorgeous. Can't compare it to the bluray, but it's a definite improvement over the Criterion dvd.

So disappointed it didn't play anywhere in Calgary. Looks like we will have a tough time finding the Blu Ray here too. Too bad this set will be region locked. Grrrrr. Wonder if I can find it in Japan when I visit in Jan, but not sure if it would be region free or have English subs.

Man, I'm so glad I held off, I saw it was 50% off on Amazon and was tempted to pull the trigger, but now, I'll just wait for this one, especially when they're including all the special features and then some for this 4K+Blu-ray release. Thanks for the news!

Paper Moon is a masterpiece. Saw it one early Bank Holiday Monday mornjngon BBC2 in the 90s and it completely swayed me. Saw it in a 35mm screening last year, what an experience

Like you, I'll be getting the BFI 4K of Seven Samurai, to go with my current BFI Blu-ray release, and possibly the Criterion (UK hopefully) version of Scarface. I've just replaced my DVD of Scarface with the [imprint] Blu-ray, a major improvement. The 4Ks I'm really hoping for/waiting on are the Kubrick movies Barry Lyndon (in particular), Eyes Wide Shut, and Lolita to go with the other Kubrick 4Ks.

I'm really hoping for a Paris, Texas 4k release soon since it already has a transfer available similar to the Seven Samurai situation, saw it in the cinema and it was jaw dropping

Yeah it's 100% coming, just a case of when they announce it. Curzon just announced their UK disc, so perhaps Criterion will follow soon. I can't wait to see it again in 4k!

Sounds a wonderful release but I am going for the BFI release here in the UK. It is one of the greatest films ever. Also, doesn't say if the blurays are region A or B etc Enjoyable video as ever

Great Criterion month of November! I preordered the BFI UK 4k import of Seven Samurai (I live in the US), so I probably won’t get the Criterion upgrade. I haven’t seen Funny Girl, but everything else is a must buy especially Paper Moon. One of my all time favorites.

From the specs it seems like the BFI Seven Samurai has Dolbyvision/HDR while the Criterion doesn’t - depends whether it makes a noticeable difference !

I will get the BFI 4k of Seven Samurai for the same reason, I have the Criterion blu-ray already and with same artwork and extras there is no reason for me to "upgrade" to Criterion 4k really. But I will most definetely get the 4k of Funny Girl, Shape of Water and Scarface! Not sure if I will bother to upgrade the Godzilla to 4k since I have the blu-ray and the Godzilla collection already.

BFI has a MUCH better seven samurai release thats cheaper even imported into the states. BFI has HDR10 and Dolby Vision, no offense but your getting meme’d on by other Tubers. Criterion’s 4k releases for the month have ALL been released by other studios already, there announcements have been terribly disappointing.
