If rented skins are only obtainable through using the actual case, the quantity of cases will decrease significantly. Additionally, the quantity of skins in that case will not increase because people will start using the case for renting instead of obtaining permanent skins. As a result, the price of permanent skins will eventually rise because people realize that the price of the Kilowatt case will become absurdly high.

I remember when renting skins was a thing in the past, exclusively for third-party sites and whatnot but it never cross my mind that Valve implemented such thing.

I don’t think skins at the lower tiers will be affected at all (purple and below) because it’s still cheaper to buy them than it is to rent them. The pinks will be okay in the long run since they always get cheaper than the renting price but a lot of their desirability is gone while they’re expensive (i.e. 20 bucks for a black lotus). Reds are fully cooked. Unless the skin fully appeals to you to the point where you want to customize it (like in my case the temukau, bullet queen and in living color), there’s zero reason to buy it. Case in point, I would never buy the chrome cannon or inheritance but I wouldn’t mind trying them out. Now I can just rent them for $2.50 instead of paying market price for them and eating the steam fee when I sell them. Hypothetically, knives should go up since the desire to open cases is kinda gone now but if valve feels this way about skins, why wouldn’t they do it for knives too? Maybe in future operations, they’ll just temporarily sell new operation vanilla knives for a one time fee and make them untradable and unmarketable. I can see them doing the same with agents.

I don't really agree to the "greedy" comment about renting weapons. I see this as a super good way to play with some nice skins for a bit for cheap. I do have some pretty nice skins of my own, but I'm not really in to trading or buying/selling them, so I see this as a great way to try out some new cool skins that I do not plan to buy as the price for this is quite cheap

I don't even think the rent part is too greedy. If you are a player witout a lot of money who is unable to buy expensive skins you still can play with skins for one week with a crazy loadout. Some cases would obviously be better than other because of the variety of skins like the kilowatt case where you have ak, awp, m4a4, m4a1, usp, clock etc.

People renting skins will likely drive prices up because there will be less items on the market. The "supply" part of supply and demand will take a hit since the people who are ok with renting skins likely weren't the ones buying expensive items. They were the suppliers.

They have changed the blue steel finishes so that now a battlescarred blue steel looks like a rust coat with blue paint applied. :( I have searched for like 3 weeks for a battlescarred skeleton blue steel with perfectly clean playside (no blemishes) and now it looks like as if the paint is cracked and flaking off from it.

In terms of skin value, I recon skins will tend to whatever it costs to rent and then deviate depending on the skin (rarity, patterns, etc.) and considering how many £0.03-£2 skins there are it, it might even increase overall skin prices. Shame about my Doppler phase 2 tho :/

I think the renting is a very good idea.. Especially for people that cant afford to buy alot of skins. I think the idea is genious, and honestly its not that expensive. 10 euro a month, 120 a year. Not bad.

The renting thing is so clever by valve... you are basically paying the price of a key to have nothing after 7 days. No wonder there is no anti-cheat, no FPS optimisation or new content. Everyone is Valve is all about that money.
