I just took a gander at your website and I'm impressed even more besides what Ive seen in the videos. My wife is an artist and crafts-person and does the odd leather work, so I know what goes into it. People always forget about the TIME factor. The time you put into a project is worth more than the product for the most part. The details you put into your work show that to be true. These bags will last GENERATIONS if taken care of properly. A very worthwhile investment, keep up the good work.

I do most of my own leather work as well, though not as a business and I also carry a leatherman. Mine is the Surge which I guess is the bigger version of the wave (both pros and cons to that fact, like sometimes it's too big, but...) and I do have a stitching palm, I guess that's what it's called, I've had it for 18 years. The star socket on the side never crossed my mind, but I have used the plier jaws in close position and braced the needle eye against the closed cutters. Neat to learn yet another option. Thanks.

i've watched quite a few of your vids and am absolutely amazed by your leather working skills. Definitely worth the money especially since you are clearly not over pricing your products. I've done a bit of leather work myself but in no way would i be able to replicate your craftsmanship, especially not for the price let alone skill put into it.

Very nice leatherwork. On the large bag I would have rather had the hatchet holder on the front of the bag in place of the altoid tins holders. That way the whole set up could be turned into a back pack just by adjusting and relocating the existing straps. Other than that I really liked that system.

Man your leather work is awesome. People have forgotten you get what you pay for. Hand made quality goods are disappearing in America. Something like that could be passed down for generations if properly cared for. Let the masses buy Chinese crap at walk.art I prefer to support local craftsmen like yourself when I can.

"And if you don't know what a tender tube is, look it up" Lol... I think having something like a Speedy Sticher would make some of this work a bit easier(if you don't already have one).
@dead_hidden10 жыл бұрын
The reason I don't use a speedy stitcher or stitching awl is it uses a lock stitch, which is the same stitch a machine uses. I use a saddle stitch on everything (2 needles on each end of one thread). Its not that a lock stitch is a bad stitch, but a saddle stitch is superior.

I was wrong, I read your comment without paying attention to what video you commented on. The bag in this video is made with Kodiak hide from Tandy Leather Factory. Get it while you can, the quality has slipped significantly, and it will soon be discontinued. You might be better off looking at this stuff buffaloleatherstore.com/. Thats where I will go from now on for this kind of leather.

@Rick_Sanchez_C137_5 жыл бұрын
Paul S. It looks like one purchasable on asbellwool dot com I have four of their products, have worn them in Oregon, Washington, and Alaska. They are well made, but wool is wool and doesn’t seal out the wind and can succumb to vicious undergrowth if worn as an outer layer like he is doing. I love mine, just have to be mindful to use it as it works best, and if woods running In windy area or through heavy underbrush than cover it with buckskin or something.

It's beautiful work. But I don't think you know what expensive leather work means. I've seen leather jackets & motorcycle saddlebags in the upper thousands that were not as detailed as your work..
@dead_hidden10 жыл бұрын
It really all depends on your name and reputation I believe. Do I charge as much as I need to, to even be comfortable doing this? No. A resounding no. We're looking at going off grid...in a 500 sq ft. cabin with no running water and no electricity so we can continue doing this. The more my name and reputation gets out there, the more I am able to charge for my work. Some might see this as a way to gouge prices for "the name" on the product, but those people have no idea what goes into this, and they have no idea that we're struggling at the prices we charge...
@john1972goh8 жыл бұрын
