Explanation of transformers vs convolutional neural networks (CNNs): CNNs are really old, they take 3x3 or 5x5 chunks of pixels and look for patterns like diagonal lines, circles, high contrast etc. A bunch of little neural nets analyse all the chunks of pixels, and they pull heaps of possible patterns. So after this step you're left with values between 0 and 1 representing how well each chunk fit each pattern. You then pass this through a big neural network, the one you see images of when people explain neural networks, and this does some magic and spits out whatever you want. In DLSS it spits out the new upscaled list of pixels. Transformers came out in 2018 and were originally used for Google translate stuff. They have a look at all the pixels (not chunks) and analyse each pixel's relation to each other. Like how chatGPT notices the relationship between yummy and orange to infer orange is the fruit not color. This means the transformer should have better contextual understanding of fences and things. The attention mechanism is what finds all the relationships, then after that you go through a big normal neutral network, then attention over and over until the output layer which spits out the new pixels. If you got to the end of this comment you should watch 3blue1browns explanations. 10/10 visuals and you don't need to know maths or programming

I took machine-learning and deep-learning classes as some technical electives when I was still in school. That was late 2021-early 2022 so I'm surprised I'm only hearing of transformers now. That sounds absolutely insane.
@Mrakantor62 күн бұрын
actually Vision Transformers turn images in chunks (patches). The difference is that CNN encode only local information at patch level but transformers encode both local at patch level and global by attention mechanism from 1 patch to other patches. This allows the net to have a better spatial information.

NV just made 2080Ti ever lasting. It has proven faster than 3070 in newer titles due to bigger VRAM pool. 4070 is barely 30% faster (tho' it has decent margins in some games), 2080Ti is still capable of running 4K60 aside of path tracing. With the new model, it can be safely used at Performance DLSS with decent image quality. As a native lover I have to credit NV where credit is due, new version makes DLSS actually usable. However I still find FSR frame gen better, FPS seems more stable and image quality is similar or even better (which makes sense as FPS is more stable)
@terradriveКүн бұрын
hopefully they will give 20 and 30 series frame generation. I use FSR3 frame gen mod on black myth wukong on my rtx3090, full ray tracing from 40-50fps to 70-80fps on FSR3 frame gen layered on top of DLSS. It actually doesn't have much bad artifacts and played fine.
@Osaka2407Күн бұрын
@terradrive it would be nice to have more choice, absolutely! However I feel like FSR FG is at a point where DLSS FG is kinda not that relevant. Don't get me wrong, DLSS FG good, it's an awesome feature to have, however performance of FSR FG is generally better (to the point where you may need MFG 3× to slightly beat it on average), frame pacing too, image quality is equal if not better in many occasions (as performance and frame pacing is better, the time/distance differences are smaller between frames so it has easier time filling those in). Again, DLSS FG is good, i just find myself using FSR FG way more often, even if I have to mod it in. I may be completely wrong, but to my defense - I am not the only one who noticed worse performance of DLSS FG.

Pasting here what little testing I've done in the in-game benchmark. I'm honestly glad to see that the transformer model seems to be running well on entry level RTX GPUs in this case, since they stand to gain the most in terms of image quality and performance: I have a 4090 and 7800X3D. 4K, maximum settings, and path tracing enabled. I tested 3 runs of the in-game benchmark with the CNN DLSS Perf mode and 3 runs of the transformer DLSS Perf mode. CNN averaged me about 72 FPS, and the transformer model averaged me about 70 FPS. It was around a 2 - 3 FPS loss compared to CNN. Subjectively, I found image quality to be more stable overall with the transformer model as opposed to the CNN model, especially when it comes to ghosting and smearing, and I would personally take the small performance loss in favor of the increased visual quality. It still isn't completely perfect as I saw some slight flicker with thin lines, but it was far improved compared to CNN. I took a glance at ray reconstruction and frame generation on top of the transformer model and had around 118 - 120 FPS with an average latency of 45 milliseconds.

The 30 series doesn't have FG, did DLSS4 enable FG on a 30 series? No one has said that yet. It's just been speculation for possible future use. AMD didn't even acknowledge that in the interview with DF, they just left the door open to the possibility.

Are you using the unreleased beta drivers for the 5090 to get this working?
@Thuner677762 күн бұрын
Much higher cost on lower end cards, i had a minimal cost on 4070 ti super but still nice to see it works!
@Ragssssss17 сағат бұрын
I guess 40 series doesn't have any cost. Perhaps 1 - 2 fps at best. This could be due to having advanced/mature cores. Performance hit is upto 10% and more with 20 & 30 series cards.

Can you try this with a 3050 6gb? I have one in my server PC, want to see how it can handle games like this. Very cpu bottlenecked, i5 4590 is not happy.

Do you plan to try FF7 Rebirth on older cards? They say it launches on a 980 but not a 1080 lol.

I've been using this same card for 6 months and can't ask for more lol. It's a beast card for a very low power consumption. I can play ghost of tsushima very high preset on 80 to 95fps dlss quality.

hello, i really like your low end videos, this is becoming more and more relevant with prices of gaming pc hardware now days. But what you should do when comparing DLSS modes sharpness on a still view, is always include the DLSS off version as well. This is a major problem with native rasterization versus upscaling, you kind of get used to visual artifacts and forget what the native rendering looks like. thx again cheers

I own a 3050 but the 8gb one, this update makes it even more better, hoping for implementation on other games.

Yo, can you check Frame gen too? How much it improved in 40 series?

You hate lens flare? What about the flare the lens in your human eyes creates?

i would've loved to see some comparisons of moving npcs. since the tm dlss model mainly focuses on the smearing and blurring behind moving objects. which is horrendous on dlss 3.5

for a 3050? It's honestly a ton better than i thought. I really had to lock it down to 30fps when i played Phantom Liberty on the 3060ti at 2880 x 1620p for more consistent frame timing while being more in line with the PS5 resolutions on my larger HDR display. Performance mode in that still had the text looking much clearer! Way closer to the quality setting of old when it comes to objects/text in motion. Honestly reckon you could play this at 30fps with RT Shadows akin to the PS5 settings no problems now! That's seriously a big achievement for a budget card! It's the V-Ram that kills my 3060ti in modern games. Prior to the PS5/Series X I really didn't feel we had a need for anything more than 8gb as we rarely had a game that would use 6gb back in 2020. Might have more clock speeds with the 3060ti but with both of us on 8gb V-Ram the performance is actually pretty much on par with the 60ti using the older method of DLSS.

Does anyone know if you can manually put the DLSS4 files in games that have DLSS1, 2 or 3?

Yes you can for games that use Dlss 2 and 3. But you have to enable preset J option with nvidia profile inspector

I have a problem with "transformer model" the shadows are very pixelated and in the city it is not noticeable, but if you leave the city the bushes break the image very pixelated, would the CNN Network be the normal version in dlss4? or is this not dlss4? I noticed that the pixel problem disappears in CNN

My gaming laptop has the RTX 3060 mobile 6GB (with Ryzen 5800H 8c16t, and 32 GB ddr4-3200-cl20). This breathes another bit of life into it. Ill be able to keep and enjoy this for a few more years 😃

Can't wait to try this on my 3080 later, if it's worth it and able me to hold on my graphic card for longer that would be awesome because the price of new gpu are creeping so much in price, harder to justify an upgrade vs the time I spend playing games nowadays
@Stong1337Күн бұрын
bro i have a 3080ti, dont upgrade ur card. download the frame gen mod for cyberpunk and you will have high frames with PT
@KevinGoldLVL9 сағат бұрын
@@Stong1337 yes my plan was to upgrade this new gen, but I can't justify spending over 1k right now for this. I am playing on a ultrawide monitor so some games start to struggle a bit in the highest settings but if I lower the settings it's still a very competent card overall

Seems to be applicable to all RTX cards with varying results. I assume the more tensor cores the card has, the better it handles the new transformer model.

Upcoming drivers should add an override to the Nvidia App. But you can use it now by replacing the DLSS dll and setting DLSS preset to J (0x0000000A) using nvidia inspector.
