I wish colony builder games would always let you build roads for free. If your people are capable of chopping down trees they should be able to clear a dirt path. Even if the base road does not give any movement speed bonus, it is nice to be able to set up the road network for spacing reasons. So far this one feels pretty similar to Surviving the Aftermath. Obviously not the exact same game, but I don't see anything so far that would make me want to play this one instead when I already own Surviving the Aftermath.

Here, the roads require resources, so they must be upgraded travel... they need both wood and stone. (Thus, it's not just as simple as clearing a dirt path). This game has quite a bit different than Surviving the Aftermath, which I played extensively

Looks like a mix between Farthest Frontier and Frost Punk to me, and since I love both of those: wishlisted! Thanks. :) Looking forward to rest of the episodes.

This game seems very neat. Wishlisted! The thing I find most unbelievable though is that the huge solar flare that wiped out all our machinery happened only at most 50 years ago. Engineers, carpenters, metal workers, mathematicians, statisticians, doctors, nurses, farmers etc. wouldn't completely forget their knowledge. People who were 25 at the moment of the solar flare would be 75 at the beginning of the game. I get it that all electricity and with that almost all machinery as well as stored information would have been wiped out in an instance. The financial systems of the world would collapse too. But why would we be required to research farming and basic metal working, things humanity has known for millennia? It's like that solar flare also wiped people's brains. Even if we lose computers and the internet, we would still have books about all sorts of subjects. Even in the event of a world war (or several) as a consequence of the solar flare, 50 years isn't really a lot of time to set us back as far as this game wants to do. They should have said 200 years or more because then it would be more believable that the generations that followed the solar flare would have forgotten about society over time, reverting back to a hunter-gatherer society. But even then, we would probably be more like a middle of the industrial revolution society than a medieval one. Anyway, I'm looking forward to your other videos of this game -- and the release of the game itself, obviously. :)

Interesting point about the solar flare and knowledge retention! But consider this: a catastrophic solar flare, strong enough to wipe out all our tech, would also lead to a massive breakdown of infrastructure. We're talking about total electrical grid failure, which knocks out everything from manufacturing and water treatment to hospitals and schools. Plus, without power, communication networks collapse. Imagine no internet, phones, or functional supply chains - this would seriously hinder knowledge sharing and recovery efforts. Transport systems would be hit hard too. Modern vehicles, planes, trains - they all rely on electronics. So, getting around, let alone transporting goods, becomes a major challenge. This isolation means communities can't share resources or skills effectively. Then, there's building maintenance. Without modern tools and machinery, structures start to crumble - libraries, universities, labs, all the places where knowledge is stored and shared. Healthcare's another critical area. Think about hospitals relying on electric-powered equipment. The healthcare system's collapse not only causes immediate crises but also diverts focus from other fields. We also have to consider the shift in priorities. Post-flare, survival comes first - food, water, shelter. This means less attention on maintaining or rebuilding complex infrastructure. Plus, environmental hazards from damaged infrastructure, like chemical spills, create additional challenges. And let's not forget the human factor. Skilled individuals, crucial for maintaining and rebuilding, might be lost in the chaos, or simply too focused on surviving to pass on their knowledge. So, while it's true that a solar flare wouldn't 'wipe' our brains, the cascading effects on our infrastructure and social systems could severely hinder our ability to apply and transmit our existing knowledge. It's not just about losing tech; it's about losing the ecosystem that supports and propagates our skills and know-how.

@@thatwittyname2578 Very good points. Thanks for broadening the issue! I agree with you; I didn't consider the infrastructure of knowledge when I wrote my comment.

Looks like a very cool game! I hope there are some unforeseen (positive and negative) long term consequences of the more ethical choices that arise which is not shown when choosing. Would make it a lot more interesting. Otherwise, you'd just learn how to "game" the game and make the best choice from a min/max POV.

It kinda does and kinda doesn't make sense that wells eventually dry up. One the one hand, it is possible to use more water than is produced by a well. On the other hand, wells are fed by groundwater and natural aquifers that are in turn fed by rain and springs.
@KatherineOfSky9 ай бұрын
IRL, the groundwater level can definitely go down with overusage. Trust me, I lived for almost 20 years in a house with a well on the property
@brigidtheirish9 ай бұрын
@@KatherineOfSky There's a well on the farm, too. One that's been in use for over a century. Going down from overuse, sure, but these water sources seem to have a set amount of water that doesn't replenish. That does *not* reflect reality.
@KatherineOfSky9 ай бұрын
@@brigidtheirishWhere I lived, it was a case of putting too many houses on the same aquifer, and that's why the water level would drop. And it does replenish... unlike the trees. I think it replenishes at the end of the season... there is a multiplier that pops up when you get to the end of the season or year... (I forgot)
@brigidtheirish9 ай бұрын
@@KatherineOfSky Yeah, that can happen, especially in arid regions. Hadn't noticed the multiplier for water.
