I finally got the chance to buy the pdf, and this class is amazing! The damage can be insane as well. At 11th level, for chronos avenger, you can have 3 attacks per round, 2 from normal and extra attack, and one as a bonus action. You also have time slip, so you get 6 total attacks! You can also spend 2 soul dice per attack at 11th level, so that adds up to 18d8 if you exhaust all your resources in one round. That's crazy, not to mention that you have improved critical chance and advantage on each attack

David Productions have done a really good job with part 5. It feels much better than what I remember the manga was like. Part 6, Stone Ocean, was a bit of a let down, but I think given some creative freedom and some really great voice acting performance, David Pro can make it really great. Part 7 was a Jojo revival for me. I lost interest early in part 6, but Steel Ball Run brought me back into the fold. It took me a few years after the series is finished before I actually start reading it.

F J Iturralde JoJo is a big inspiration to other creators, but I don't think Nen Conjuration was a result of JoJo. At least not at first. Pitou and Knuckle's abilities are a lot like stands after all.

Knucle and Pitou are not the only examples. All Kakin princes can count on this as well since they all have a Nen beast. And this goes beyond inspiration of Jojos. Since Yokai form a big part of Japanese folklore and can be represented in this class.

F J Iturralde Most Conjurers use their ability to create weapons that don't behave differently then a regular weapon. I only used Pitou and Knuckle as my examples beacuse I see their powers as something unique to them that could absolutely exist in the world of Jojo. The more creative ones create unique combat scenarios to their advantage. The Nen Beasts are not like stands though, as they are in general grotesque and act independently of their host, who can't even see their beast without training.

@@commonviewer2488 If you look at Togashi's earlier work, Yu Yu Hakusho, there were things called "territories" which were a pretty clear reference to jojo's stand abilities, which Togashi has even acknowledged in interviews, so yeah, jojo has played a good part in inspiring Togashi's work even before hunterxhunter.

Hecking love this. I want to make more homebrewery of my own, like a Barbarian subclass which capitalizes on taking damage, allowing for more rages. Path of the Psycho wouldn't be an original idea, so I wouldn't be able to put it on a homebrewery site. Path of the Psycho would consist of at least 3 different sub-builds. This would include a capitalization on reducing creatures to zero HP (specifically adding damage dice to corresponding weapons, being melee, standard ranged, and thrown... making large numbers of creatures easier to fight), making the character easier to hit (triggering the damage based rage boost) and able to take more hits, and getting bonuses by being set on fire (eventually triggering damage type bonuses). There are caveats, however. The character would be limited to a template background, or 'hereafter the character's previous life.' Maybe the character was an acolyte. Well... keyword... 'was.' The adventure objective may be for the character to reclaim his or her previous life, taken by way of insanity induced by a mad experiment or series of mad experiments. The other two caveats involve the insanity of the mad experiment, consisting of an inner voice of the character's true desires, and speech consisting of disturbing and morbid idioms at best and manic nonsensical mumblings at worst. Any attempts to speak usually result in stealth being broken, as a Path of the Psycho Barbarian must shout nearly everything he or she says. (Dexterity) Stealth at disadvantage. The psycho almost always wears a special experimental mask, so he or she can determine friend from foe. Being separated from the mask for more than 2 hours replicates the Crown of Madness spell, only the spell doesn't abate until the character is dead, or the mask is reattached to the psycho's face. ...hopefully I can balance this class correctly.

I want to say thank you for creating this class. I'm in the early stages of creating a Dungeons & Dragons 5E campaign where characters can channel their Psyche to access superpowers much like Stands and Personas, or through their weapons like a Zanpakuto from Bleach, all tied together in an Alice in Wonderland-esque dream world setting. The lore of my campaign comes from a story which I have been writing for three years now, and after seeing Rustage's One Piece Dungeons & Dragons campaign, I was inspired to translate my story into my own D&D storyline. I looked at the Q&A at the bottom and there is definitely a problem, "Light" would not make the phantasm visible it would just reveal it's location, they are not the same thing. An invisible must be both targeted (which the attacker must guess the location) and attack at disadvantage which is why it's mostly pointless. Casting light on the phantasm would not remove disadvantage, just remove the guess work required from the attacker.

I think the idea is cool and I really like the storytelling aspect behind it but I feel that the phantasms being always invisible is too overpowered and it should have to be something like using an action at least or even better, that they're incorporeal normally as you said and are invisible but that they cannot interact with anything, cast spells or do anything essentially except scout, so long as they remain incorporeal. However, to attack or interact with things, cast spells etc. the phantasm has to become corporeal and when it does so, it becomes visible and requires an action from the character to make it invisible again. It'd get advantage on the first attack it makes but then need to sacrifice a turn essentially to do it again. And when it becomes corporeal, it can take damage and be destroyed but when incorporeal, is immune to all damage. Just my suggestion but whatever you believe is best, I still think that that mechanic needs to be reconfigured in some way. Constant advantage is just too strong. Coupled with soul dice and a constant increased chance to roll a critical hit, and it has potential to be far too overpowered. The trade off of a lower damage dice doesn't really work here because 1d8 is not a low damage dice by any margin. Longbows are 1d8, Longswords are 1d8 (one handed) etc. So there really isn't too much of a trade off at all. They'd be out-damaging Fighters and Barbarians by a long shot. Take for example a level 20 Fighter. A Level 20 Fighter has at most 8 attacks. That's eight rolls he has to make. Quite possible that 2 at least will fail if not more. Then he deals let's say 1d10 + 5 + 3 for legendary sword attacks. Average of 13 damage on a hit. He hits 8 times in a row using action surge. 8 time's 13 is 104 damage on average. On the other hand, a level 20 Channeler if they hit with even 1 attack (not sure how many they get later on, may have missed it in the video) can do 1d8 + 5 + 20d8 +100 without any sort of magic items, for an average of 189 damage on one hit. And if they crit, a lot of that damage is essentially doubled. They also only need to hit once to do so, whereas a fighter needs to hit with all 8 attacks to still do 85 damage less on average. Granted a fighter has a higher chance to crit thanks to 8 attacks, and can do so twice a day at that stage but if they crit on one attack it's only that attack that gets doubled up, whereas the Channeler's Phantasm gets all of their dice doubled so after the crit they can then decide to throw them all in to get the most out of it with nothing to lose. Top that off with the ability to stop time at later levels, essentially a level 9 spell (I don't know how it works in this case but just sounds pretty strong) or create a wall of force type object to block paths, a level 5 spell and it just seems a little too powerful and could make straight fighters and barbarians a bit obsolete. I do realise however that once they use their soul dice, they can't do so again, perhaps needing a long rest (because a short rest to regain them would be far too strong) but a lot of games only have one or two encounters in a day so it'd allow for people to basically go supernova on fights. The spellcaster one can for instance use fireball or cone of cold and then throw in up to 20 d8's on top of it plus their charisma, which at that stage would be +5 most likely. That would mean a cone of cold is doing 8d8 cold damage or half that on a failed save plus 20 d8's plus 100 damage for an average total of 212 damage. Meteor Swarm is 40d6 for an average of 120 damage at full damage or 60 on a save and fire is one of the most resisted too so that could be dropped even lower to 45 if the fire was resisted and bludgeoning wasn't on a successful save. Now Meteor Swarm has a huuuge area and can hit from a literal mile away so yeah, still dealing a LOT more damage overall across the field but this just gives some idea of the power of the Channeler. In some cases, that amount of damage on a smaller more controlled area would allow it to be used in combat far more often, actually acting as a boon rather than a detriment. Like think about that, Meteor Swarm could be reduced to 60 damage on a save but if soul dice aren't halved with area of effect spells in the same way, a Cone of Cold, would deal 8d8 = 32 average damage, down to 16 if saved against but then plus 180 damage at 20th level, no way to stop it. So there's a few questions there that need to be asked; when do soul dice replenish? Short or long rest? Do you add charisma modifier to soul dice even on non-attack spells like area of effects? Does soul dice damage also get halved on an area of effect spell that allows the target to save for half damage? Because if not, you're bypassing that safeguard entirely with soul dice and making the roll nearly obsolete, as you'll deal far more damage than normally possible for that spell even at low enough levels even if they save. And here's a big question, what type of damage do soul dice do? For instance, if I used cone of cold and then use soul dice, is the soul dice cold damage? Cause if so, any resistances against it would make a huge difference in total damage but if it's say force damage added on, then it's nearly always going to be full damage from the resultant roll of the soul dice. Even resisted though, a cone of cold at 20th level could still deal 106 damage, far more than a resisted or saved against Meteor Swarm. And dual spells later on would only inflate this problem. Just imagine going up against two or three lichs at level 20 and cone of colding them all for an instant win. Finally you can also guarantee passing on ability checks or saving throws essentially, far greater than a fighter's Indomitable feature and do it far more times in total at high levels. And the amount you could heal would outdo most Clerics. What is the hit die of the Channeler? Are they super squishy? Because that could offset it a little. The only other problem I can see with the class is that some people might not like the idea of the channeler doing everything for them even if they're controlling them, as opposed to their own actual character getting involved in the mix directly but that's just a personal preference thing. All in all the super high damage might not be a huge problem in a game with lots of encounters forcing them to use up soul dice. But in games with one or two encounters per day, they could just keep hold of most of them until the final boss battle or whatever and completely annihilate anyone in their way. In one turn you could do damage equal to nearly half an ancient red dragon's health at high levels. Granted, depending on the full abilities available, you might not be able to deal very high damage after that one burst but you could still do a fair amount of damage and even an ancient dragon would have disadvantage to attack your phantasm due to their constant invisibility. Also begs the question, if the channeler is himself invisible by a spell or whatever, do they lose invisibility when the phantasm takes an action? Just some things to consider but I do really like the idea of the class and think it's super interesting and cool so keep it up man. I don't mean to take away from it at all. Just offering some personal insights into the class based off the video.

Nice analysis, Jhakaro. But I have already thought of most of your questions. Soul dice adds to the result, so it does not deal separate damage type. Also, at level 18 you can only spend a maximum of 3 dice per instance. They don't have large hit dice and no special damage reduction features such as uncanny dodge or monk's empty body that gives the monk invisibility and resistance to all damage. By the way, you are also forgetting the damage bursts that can be done by a samurai or battlemaster fighter with the great weapon master feat. With +2 great sword and possible extra elemental damage, it can utterly destroy monsters in less time. It can even do it repeatedly and more often than the channeler. Playtests have shown that there are plenty of other powerful damage dealers that can out-damage the Channeler. Oath of vengeance Paladin with a few levels of fighter multiclassing can also easily outdamage the channeler. What the channeler offer is flexibility, not damage topping. Ok, well that explains a lot. I did actually forget battlemaster's manoeuvres too which would add 6 more d12's at high levels into their damage potentially, which I did think of during the calculations but then forgot about as I went. The channeler if able to just put in any number would still massively out damage them in that one burst but yeah a fighter can go and deal more consistent damage over time. The only fear was that for games with just one or two encounters on average per day, a channeler could just nuke everything essentially and deal insane amounts of damage possibly to many enemies like with the spellcaster one but with the clarification, that isn't a problem. And yeah Paladin's can at times do insane damage too and are often a very min-max-y class because of smite. Sorry if my comment came off as harsh or bashing the class or anything like that. Not my intention at all. And your clarifications here basically fix the biggest possible problem with the class whilst giving it a lot of versatility in play. My worries came from a place of ignorance because as is evident, I hadn't seen the actual class but only watched this video which was more a guide than a full detailed run through of the mechanics. I think it's a cool concept and the different types of phantasms gives three very unique ways to play even within the one class, which makes each sub class pretty unique unto themselves. I've been trying to do something similar to this for 2nd Edition AD&D. Rather than a separate class, it serves more as a complement to a character's abilities; and of course, there is a significant risk to it. If a character generates an ikiryo (see Oriental Adventures), they get to make a modified Wisdom save with a -2 penalty to initiate a psychic contest with their own malevolent spiritual manifestation. If they win, the ikiryo comes under the character's control. If they lose, the ikiryo kills them instead of it's original target.

The DM I have in the game I'm playing is also a Jojo fan and has something similar to this but instead of a separate class required to gain a stand it's an item that gives them the stand permanently usually in the form of the crystal. In our game they're known as spirit weapons and the DM picks a song and creates the spirit weapon around it. The player can do the same only the spirit weapon must be approved by the DM. Like Jojo's the ability can be anything as long as it's not too game breaking.

I really like this class idea, though it does have some feature bloat at times, knowing the origin point for the class, it does make since. I kind of want to see a Live Streamed game with this class in it, like matthew colville with Benjamin Huffman' Pugilist class with "The Chain". I'll admit I'm a bit of a sucker for some good Homebrew in my live stream games. I'm very interested to see what more we might get from you, or for this class, I remember there being the possibility of having new sub-classes for the Channeler, if so I look forward to that.
