I cried so hard listening to this and thinking about something : How Kokichi is so freaking misunderstood. I can literally spend hours talking about my analysis and how to break down his character and understand him better, because that guy is LITERALLY the true hero of this game. Well "Anti-hero" would the better term. But here’s a tip to get him : believe that he’s not a bad guy and try to go really far in your reasoning every time he does something bad. And you’ll eventually get mind blown. Literally all his actions have a big amount of reasoning behind. He was two steps ahead of everyone, that’s why he made choices that practically no one would like to make. So he chose to make those hard decisions no one would want to make so that no one will have to suffer mentally. He chose to be the bad guy : 1st so that no one would pity him for taking the hard choices. (To carry most of his plans he had to make everyone believe he was bad). 2nd so that they will not get attached to him and hate him (he did this so that everyone would have a common enemy and would choose to work together against Kokichi, and by doing that everyone would learn to work together against him and eventually no one would murder anyone). He basically sacrificed so much to the point that he suffered throughout this whole killing game, but eventually he couldn’t let his emotions show because he had to keep the "evil" act going. Also i’m pointing out a certain part : after everyone voted for Gonta. He was genuine about his feelings, that was ***definitely*** not a lie. He thought that since everyone is going to think he was lying anyways, he might as well just let it all out and show his true emotions, and then just cover it up with an "oh, you guys fell for that fake crying?". Well, THAT’S the lie. The part where he starts laughing maniacally and pointing out that he was fake crying was him lying and putting on his evil mask to keep the act. And what basically breaks my heart in all of this, is just imagining Kokichi every day after he finally gets back to his room, acting like his true self and pulling of his mask with a tired expression. Cause DAMN imagine having to pull an act for one week in order to save everyone. How mentally exhausting it is. Sacrificing yourself, acting like nothing gets you when sacrificing Gonta was probably the hardest decision he had to make, making everyone hate you... But that didn’t matter to Kokichi, or at least he was trying to endure it, if it meant succeeding in his plan to save everyone. And to add the cherry on top, i think that Kokichi has been mentally suffering this whole time and eventually got overwhelmed with guilt and regret (even tho he knows that what he’s doing is the only way) and that’s why out of all the plans he had for the final trial, (the book Kaito mentioned) he chose one where he would die. You might be wondering why? Well, just imagine living after all those horrible things you did, imagine living carrying the guilt of all those evil schemes. Even if he knew that all of this isn’t part of him, that all this is something he was forced to do and he really didn’t want to do anything like that. He still couldn’t bear the weight of his actions even if it was all an act. And that’s why he chose to die while saving the rest of them. And of course he wouldn’t ask Kaito to kill him nicely, he still had to put a final act by being a little psychotic so that Kaito wouldn’t have any sympathy for him. He didn’t want him to feel too much guilt after killing him so he kept his evil act till the end. And then it all comes to this line : "I had to think this killing game was fun to survive. I had to lie to myself !" He couldn’t keep his act till the very end after all he wanted at least people to know that he wasn’t bad, that all he did was an act, but he waited till the end so that Kaito would be confused and would hesitate in believing in him. Cause if he pulled off his "evil" mask before, no one would believe his bad, and that would go against all of his plans. Including Kaito killing him. And finally the end : after the credit scenes, the game reveals that Shuichi, Maki and Himiko were still alive. They eventually talked about a really important point : truth and lies. And so as they discuss the importance of lies in finding the truth, just keep in mind during this whole conversation that this is Kokichi’s way of thinking and you’ll get it... *sobs uncontrollably.*

He literally believed he would break down his character and get what he was trying to do. :(

He definitely wanted to find someone to trust, if you ask me. That's why he had those photos of everyone on his board in his room during chapter 6. If you look closely at them, he made diagrams of the blackened and victims, along with the survivors, but Shuichi was put in a separate area from the rest, which shows he saw Shuichi differently than everyone else. He considered him the only person he could possibly trust, since it's labeled "trustworthy?" underneath it, while the others say things like "boring," or "annoying." I believe he considered letting down the mask and telling Shuichi everything (Shuichi is the only person who could convince the rest of the cast that he isn't lying about anything), but before he could, he was forced to continue his progression of being the "anti-hero," as his malice gets worse every chapter. When he found out Miu had a plan to kill him, that's when he realized he couldn't change the facade, because he had become what they wanted. A common enemy, just like you said. I have lots of respect for Kokichi, and he's definitely a character I could talk about forever, but you summed most of it up very well. I hope you don't mind me adding my thoughts!

Not trying to hate on Kokichi, but isn’t that just one way of looking at it? Theoretically, none of that has actually proven to be 100% true. All you’re doing is choosing to believe when he’s lying and when he’s telling the truth, and trying to base his actions on assumptions that also essentially can never be proven. I would like to believe Kokichi was doing all that, but the reality is there is no way to actually tell what his motives really were at all the whole time. However, I think that’s what makes him an incredible character is that he’s literally impossible to actually read so you’re just left to whatever you believe is actually the truth. You guys don’t even realize that’s the whole point of this game: truth vs. lies. Kokichi fits in perfectly with the theme as whichever way you’re wanting to perceive him is how you’re going to see his actions. As they say, “The truth is in the eye of the beholder”. And the truth is, you’ve just stated your opinion based on what you THINK his motives truly were.

Korekiyo was the most developed and nice character in the game and you can’t tell me otherwise. He never focused on people’s personality, Looks, or anything about them to be exact, he only looked at the bright side of life and was more interested in teaching other people about themselves. *spoilers for DR2 and V3 so no one can get mad at me* I think this song best embodies the feelings of despair in the entire series. Every single time this song played, it never failed to make me feel completely broken. It was a song that made me feel like it was all for naught; worthless, that this killing game caused so much suffering. It played during the most heart-breaking of moments, and it really made me really feel for the characters on a emotional level, even more than the previous 2 games. For the first 2 games, I felt sad for certain characters, but I never quite got attached to enough of them for me to cry. Gundam and Chiaki got close, but not quite since Gundam died happy and Chiaki was happy for Hajime and the others. For V3, however, I cried during EVERY. SINGLE. TRIAL. I felt bad for each character, and even Chapter 3 got me teary eyed, even if it wasn't for the culprit (sorry Korekiyo, I didn't hate you but the reason really couldn't make me cry for you). Especially Chapter 4. I have never felt so attached to a Danganronpa character before Gonta, and never cried so much over any character like that before. This song was just the icing on the cake; the funeral cake. A lot of people are going to disagree with this, but I thought V3 had the best characters in the series. The first game had some great ones, but most were in the middle. The second game had too many characters I hated or were just "eh" about for me to get attached to many of them. But with V3, I liked nearly all of them. I just found them more engaging and more interesting than the ones in the first two. If I made a top 10, at least half would be from V3. Even if people hate V3, even if they think it's the worst in the series, the impact this game had on me is insurmountable compared to the first 2, which is why it's my favorite. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the first 2, but some things made it a bit too hard to feel sad over some characters. I feel like V3 fixes that. If someone disagrees, fine. But from my experience, from the music, to the characters, and the feels, this game is held close to my heart...less journey.
