Turn order (in case anybody needs help): Enemies always go first, unless a friendly counter goes to zero. Then top row characters and bottom row characters. Most forward enemy first, same with allies Smack back goes directly after attacks (in between frenzy hits), same with teeth (priority above other attacks). Mimics and other characters that attack following an ally’s attack go after a smack back hit

This game has so much depth, it's actually insane. Positioning, card order, interactions between distinct effects, tempo vs value... it's like playing Magic the Gathering but without nearly as many sweaty nerds. I'm in love.
@AileTheAlien Жыл бұрын
🥵The sweat-lords were the worst part of MTG Arena. Matchmaking helped a bit, but dang... I could tell I was always bouncing up and down in the matchmaking system, since I preferred interesting synergies or artwork instead of just whatever has the highest chance of winning. (So I'd win too few matches, go up against people who don't know how the mechanics work, then win easily and start getting matched against people who only care about cards that are all above the power curve.) Plus, sorting through all the different cards every 2-4 months got old fast.

@@jonahchickering4908 18 hour Andy here, not quite 22 hours but close - aggressively aim to kill the guy who gives the tooth enchantment to everyone first, even if it involves taking 50/50s on hitting him, he's the nightmare-maker, without him you might not hit who you want but most of the other enemies don't hit that hard. Aimless enchantment guys are your 2nd priority - they should also be frozen with your spells as much as possible while you're killing the spiker, too, since they hit the hardest in that encounter - then just make sure to not hit the boss unless he's frozen, inked or your guy can take his hit and you're golden. Honestly once you take the tooth enchanter guy (Marrow, I think?) down the encounter's fairly easy. The encounter that gives ME nightmares is the nut guys. The Conkers who can hit you for like 26 right off the bat are so hard to deal with, and the damn Acorn Witches refill everyone with nuts sooo fast.

This game is so deceptively simple and probably why it gets so much flak. I've got two wins under my belt after many losses and around 15-20 hours and each win got me pegged up. Technically it's a matter of keywords. The flame reaper says "apply 5 spice" because it applies the spice to the unit you hit it with, just like most other potion-like effects (and also like the flamewater), while the gearhammer says "gain +1 attack" and iirc cards that buff themselves like yuki also say gain attack. I really don't blame NL tho, i'm only pointing out this keyword stuff retroactively but i might have gotten confused too, the effect he thought it had is really similar to the effect of the flame reaper so it's not really unreasonable to think that it would work that way.

Feel like NL's content on this game has been really positive. Jumped back up to 72% on steam. Nice to see. :)
@gooblop Жыл бұрын
NL might have helped a little bit, but the realistic reason why the rating went from like 50% to 70% positive is really simple. On day 1 nobody knew what to expect, so most people thought the game was too hard. So past day 1, anyone checking out the game goes to the steam page and sees tons of reviews saying it's too hard. All the people buying the game are the ones seeing negative reviews for difficulty and saying "I have no problem with a difficult game", exactly like NL did in the first minute of his first Wildfrost video. Their review score is going up because the people that would be giving negative ratings just aren't buying the game instead.

It's interesting watching NL learn the game, I'm a good 10-15 runs ahead of him here, with a couple of victories, and plenty of final boss attempts. I really notice how he rushes the plays, it really does feel like the game has an invisible timer that makes you feel like you need to rush. It is before anything else a test of patience. I did like his comment about the flowchart, once the penny drops that you just need to firstly make sure no unit dies, before thinking about attacks and committing to anything, your play really improves.
