Rarely seen such an incompetent municipal councillor and mayor. Who pays these "people" - citizens! What kind of salaries do such people "receive" - far too much! Doesn't the constitution stand above all laws and laws over rules - absolutely! How stupid is this lawyer next to the mayor and what is this idiot actually doing up there. Only the mayor and the municipal councillors sit up there - no one else. If the lawyer were an elected local councillor, well then he would have the right up there - otherwise not ! Freedom of expression is trampled underfoot - absolutely!

The smug township attorney seems to think that “free speech” is limited to spoken word and that as long as you permit someone to speak words, then you can’t be violating the 1st amendment. “We’re not stopping you from speaking, just from expressing yourself non-verbally” Yeah that’s not how this works.

@@centralnjbut it has serve a SUBSTANTIAL government interest and they have to provide another way for them to express themselves without limitations. Meaning they can have those rules to get through business but then provide time at the end for the things they banned. Costumes and masks cannot be banned across the board. That’s unconstitutional.

Well, that's not entirely clear under the fuzzy Supreme Court public forum / designated public forum / limited public forum rules, on which the circuits do not entirely agree. Curious how it would be interpreted under the free speech clause of the NJ Constitution, which is considered broader than the first amendment.

@@centralnj. After researching this these Decorum Rules CAN be applied but only AFTER they are passed. Rules such as the Scope of a Topic, Cursing, Yelling, Costumes, giving your Name/Address or having a sign-in sheet to speak.

What we seem to have here is a failure to realize who owns who! The city council exists to serve the people. The city council is a servant, not a master. THE PEOPLE dictate to the city council, not the reverse. THE PEOPLE have the authority to order the jackals to remove a city council member! No city council member should even think he or she has the authority to use a jackal to remove a citizen who contributes to their salary. PS. A jackal is a police man.
