New Defense Drone | Scrap Mechanic Survival

Today we engineer a simple line following drone to help defend Totebot Bay! It really isn't the most practical, but with a little cleaning up, It should work!

Looks like it might help if the turns are at 45 instead of 90 degrees.

You can have this work with lvl 1 sensors and no paint by just creating a grove where the line would be, and inverting the sensor output so when it sensor doesn't see a block it activates

@SaltySeraph That is great Idea. I love your gadgets. This allows me to learn well (I'm still a beginner). What I'm considering because of the defense drone ... if you attach 4 more sensors on all 4 sides, which then turn the turret in the approximate direction where the bots are ... and then the sensors from the Turret take control again, then you should be able to cover all directions, and the drone always look in the right direction. If that is possible ?!

This is possible! However you would have to make sure that nothing else will get in the way/trigger the sensors besides robots. Excellent idea!

@@SaltySeraph Exactly. That's how I thought it would be. Basically, the tower would have to when a signal comes from the side. (For example, a 90 degree angle), the turret rotate at a 90 degree angle, and as soon as the turret itself detects a signal within this radius, switch back to the sensors of the gun. So basically two controls. One by the gun itself and one for the turntable. The circuit just has to recognize when it has to switch.

Good job man, I could NEVER make this, honest. I’m subbing because u put so much work to make this a reality and you are AWESOME!!!!!!!!! Also a tip, if you run out of stuff, it’s not a crime to do some dev commands and just get the stuff u need for the turret. Ur not really using it for progress so it’s not rally cheating. I mean, it IS a engineering game. Cheers man

You could extrude blocks and have the drone run along it, saves components altgough you lose the style points for just having a flat plate

Amazing video as always. I'm currently using your idea for the rover to pickup the haybot torsos as I think it may make it fully automated as I won't need to load up the resource container by hand. :)

I don't think you need those control bits, just connect each external sensor to the opposite controller and the central one to both. Or, even better, modify the robot so that it travels between two "fences" (colored lines, or grooves to save dye). That way you will only need two sensors: Connect the left sensor to a nor gate and the nor output to the right controller, then connect the right sensor to another nor and that nor to the left controller, last connect a switch to a not gate and the not output to both nor gates. When you turn on the switch the robot will start to move forward in a strait line until a sensor sees one of the "fences" and brakes the opposite set of wheels to steer away from it. When the sensor cannot see the "fence" anymore the robot will go back moving in a strait line until the switch is set to off or it find another "fence".

If you want to get rid of them, trap a haybot in a cage of tier 3 metal and throw the heads in there.

Makes me wonder if you could make it so that it uses one sensor and uses the wall around you base as a track (assuming the base you want to protect the walls of is flat along the edges). Hm... Damn... Time to put digital logic skills to work. I want to try this out now! Don't fail me now college education!

Maybe if you put the sensors closer to the middle, or make a wall, and the sensor can sens the wall and not the line.

They should team with the wing mod dev. To fully support aerodynamics with out bugs that wings might get so then we can make fuel efficient drones. Or controller powered drones. I can easily see my self making drones that have automatic turrets activating at night circling my base fighting all farmbots they see.

Nice video and brilliant idea but why not try to widen the base and mount suspensions so it should be able to manage a steep terrain and would better manage the recoil, also if you make it an 8 * 8 or a 6 * 6 (but this configuration you may have problems with the central wheels in curves).

Would it be easier to run a straight track and have the drone run forward along it then by changing the color or placing a sensor on each end to detect a block then reverse and run back. The guns would always be facing the right side then too
