Hey Brock, I thought it was funny because right when you said that you didn’t have any aggressive fish in the tank, those loaches were trying to kill each other in the background.😂 Lol. 11:15 into the video

Those fish are nuts. They don’t hurt anything but they are wacky

Howdy Brock! As I ease back into this hobby... I'm finding to quarantine or not to quarantine is a very hot topic lol. I would tend to agree with you... a fully established tank would do just as good of a job mitigating any risk from introducing new fish as any chemical regiment (and a lot cheaper). Interesting how this hobby parallels the healthcare industry... there is no money in keeping people naturally healthy - there is no money in keeping fish naturally healthy. To each their own. Well done and thanks for sharing 🤠

Sounds about right. Usually people who are new to the hobby try to do too much too fast. If you can keep some plants and have some patience, the hobby can be relaxing instead of creating an extra job for yourself taken care of it

Even after quarantine, your new fish looks healthy; it may still carry parasites, bacteria, etc. that your new fish got some immunity by being exposed. The same thing happens with the fish you already have in your tanks. The problem comes when you finally introduce your new fish with the old ones. If both fish have been exposed to the same pathogens, fine; if not, either one will get sick or both.

Very good share. I tty to separate all new fish for weeks before adding to the general population. Not doing so have cost me dearly in the past

Ick is not the only reason we should quarantine yes ick is a problem and will kill fish but probably one of the easiest to treat for there are a lot of problems that can happen 5 to 6 weeks down the line that will take out your whole tank. You have been very lucky so people please quarantine your fish. Thanks for sharing
@uncommonaquatics18 күн бұрын
You didn’t have a comment on my main point The environment that you put in has to be very high-quality. How many people have a large fully mature, discuss worthy aquarium, ready to go? I have empty tanks running with filters on them, but I don’t think they are discus worthy I’m not throwing it into a little tank that isn’t suitable for it. That is more likely to make it sick.
@markfranklin883118 күн бұрын
@uncommonaquatics I hear what your saying but I still think quarantine should not be over looked.
@rirdan110 күн бұрын
@@uncommonaquatics Sad thing about luck is that it tends to run out. Sooner or later, camalanus worms will really appreciate your high-quality mature aquarium. So irresponsible toward your existing fish...

I agree with you on that also.. I don’t quarantine my fish .. and it’s always been fine .. moving fish from tank to tank is what’s get them sick.. I put the fish in there right tank

Quarantine at 4 weeks is best. Not only that but with Discus, when you introduce Discus from different breeders, you introduce parasites. You'll learn this from experience, don't know what else to comment because nothing else matters.
@uncommonaquatics18 күн бұрын
I’ve been keeping Fish for 25 years. I think the biggest mistake people make is trying to overclean their aquariums and make everything sterile.
@Nevoexpo18 күн бұрын
@@uncommonaquatics What does that have to do with the proper quarantine timeframe or what I told you about introducing new parasites when you mix Discus stock?
@DiscusNT8 күн бұрын
Quarantine for Discus in a small tank for weeks on end causes MORE problems that is saves you from. Buy from a good source, plop and drop, and I gut load the entire tank with medicated food every 2nd day for two weeks. Things work out fine. If I put a Discus alone in a small tank for a month, it gets depressed, insecure, doesn't eat well, and by the time you put it in the main tank it's weak and vulnerable to illness. Recipe for distaster.
@regosilver114718 күн бұрын
You are right about discus and food they are slow eaters and if other fish beat them for food they will get stress and die
@uncommonaquatics17 күн бұрын
That’s why I think I’m going to do discus only in another 125 gallon. I know they can be kept with other fish but I just think it would be best.

Sick fish rarely show noticeable symptoms all the time. Unless you have a small warehouse of aquariums to isolate every fish you buy for a community tank it’s gonna be a crap shoot. With that said, it’s Always best practice to isolate any new fish in any way you can for as long as you can. Btw. It’s almost impossible to medicate a 100+ plus gallon community tank without losing fish

Just went through the whole quarantine tank back and forth to have the fish die after a few months..I think I was stressed because it was young.😢why do the really expensive stuff go easy and my cheap little black tetra's are bullet proof 😂 I keep my tanks with a bit of salt and never put pet store water in my system
@gayefanner73118 күн бұрын
I totally agree with your opening statement and it’s very pertinent to the ‘world’ of You Tube. I reached pretty much the same conclusion as you regarding quarantine and gave it up after my first half dozen minnows. Illness wasn’t the problem but aggression and bullying as the tank was small compared to their intended tank. Of course when rehoused all was peace n love! If I could subscribe to your channel again I would !! God bless you 🙏✝️. ✌️🇷🇺☮️🇺🇦✌️. 🙋♀️🤍🇮🇱✌️

Ich is dorment in all fish. They get ich when they are stressed and immune system to low. When you move between aquariums you will stress the fish - also dependent on the the new tankmates and how agressive they are. I have never quarantiened, but have Ich medicine on stock - i believe I have used 4 times over the last 7 years on 7 aquariums.

I quarantine ALL fish using the recommended Med-Trio from Aquarium Coop (1 whole week w/o water change), then, 2 weeks later I do Para-cleanse again (1 whole week w/o water change). Followed a week later with Expel P, and then 2 weeks later Expel P again. A week later, prior to moving them from quarantine to display, I do 3 consecutive days of Melafix. I have been very successful with this process, it takes 12-14 weeks.

@uncommonaquatics is SALT not a chemical? You used it to suppress Ick, your fish then went to another aquarium and died....while killing other fish. I use Ick X to save the fish and KILL ick!

Fritz "Maracyn" makes ZERO sense to use. It is erythromycin, which is designed for gram-positive bacteria while most fish illnesses are caused by gram-negative bacteria. All it does is crash the cycle, stresses fish out and contributes to a very dangerous process of creating antibiotic-resistant bacteria. As for Fritz Paracleanse, same ingredients as General Cure (metronidazole and praziquantel). In my opinion, makes MUCH more sense to use just praziquantel (Hikari PraziPro) for common parasites and Fritz Expel-P (levamisole) to rule out camalanus worms and wasting disease.
